Chapter 496: Chapter 494:Threat.

The moment the platform touched the ground, the figures aboard the vessels began being teleported down in large batches as we finally arrived at our destination.

...

Following a bright flash of light, the environment around me shifted—from the hall lined with formation-covered seats, anxious young masters about to face true power, to a grand square that had already been filled with multiple people in black robes bearing starry sky patterns, an image of a bronze three-headed dragon-like creature emblazoned boldly on their backs.

I took a moment to take a look around.

At the place that catered to the heart of the High Planar Galaxies.

Naturally, there were other notable sects to be spoken of in these worlds, but like every experience needed, this was the peak of whatever a cultivation world’s protagonist would be chasing.

From their bottom-feeding world to the peak, THIS represented that peak, and it showed.

The crowd that had gathered around the square felt different.

There were still a lot of them still muddling within the law integration stages of power like most of the other candidates that had arrived with me, but their auras felt different.

They felt sharper. More aligned. More dangerous. I had no doubt that a single one these people could take out ten of the newly arrived disciples without breaking a sweat, becuase It felt like they had truly and fully integrated their own laws with themselves.

If law integration should begin at a comprehension level of any law at at least 40%, then it felt like these guys were operating on laws integrated at comprehension levels of at least 70%, with most of them radiating auras tied to more than just one law.

This was the difference.

This was the difference between the cream of the crop and those just arriving, and they could feel it.

The expressions on the faces of most of those that had remained standing upright during the pressure test, the haughty arrogance that had threatened to overwhelm them—it was all crushed beneath this realization.

They weren’t special.

There were a few thousand people here that could crush them with a flick, and these were merely outer sect disciples. Their expressions collectively hardened as their aura shifted, from complacency to challenge accepted.

"Gotta admit, when they aren’t being pompous pricks, they really do have an interesting way of facing challenges."

Most would’ve caved under the pressure of seeing thousands of people more powerful than you when back in your world you were one of Heaven’s chosen sons.

But cultivation world mentality says, ’I see you. I recognize you. Now watch me surpass you.’ And that mentality, if not anything else, is probably why despite the constantly regurgitated nonsense that was this world, many would still gravitate towards it.

"The sect master is arriving!" The call of the female elder snapped me out of my thoughts as I took my gaze from the surroundings and focused them on where her eyes were looking, and it wasn’t only me.

Everyone currently gathered at the square, newcomers or current members, their attention turned to where the elder was facing as there, the atmosphere wriggled softly as a man appeared like he had always been there.

"Hmmm?" I couldn’t help being surprised as I felt the power the man was trying to suppress, but the way the laws within the region had subtly defected to his presence upon appearance gave it away.

"A Law Sovereign? Interesting..." A Law Sovereign. A being that had transcended the general use and application of laws, and was now one the laws themselves had to defect to. Their position and powers granted them a unique status as even the very laws that governed reality had to submit.

Of course, this was only for major laws and below, as for supreme laws, a Law Sovereign could only interact with them as equals, which was already a staggering feat, but for anything beyond that...

The point is, the man was strong, and that wasn’t the only reason for my surprise as this man was also at the same level of power as my bubbly emperor friend, and that was what made this interesting...

"We greet the sect master." The grand elders that had arrived with us—the remaining ten, as Luo Yao and her disciple had remained with the imperial family—greeted with cupped hands towards the sect master.

"You all, please stand." The man’s voice wasn’t overbearing; he sounded like the type one could easily get along with or respect, yet I wasn’t feeling it.

"Hmmm? Where are Elders Taixu and Luo Yao?" The sect master asked, noticing the absence of two grand elders.

"Reporting to the sect master, Elder Luo Yao had stayed behind during our visit to the imperial castle to pay respects to the emperor." The face of the sect master twitched at that piece of news; it was subtle, nigh impossible to catch, but for someone like me, it might as well have been a public display.

"Oho? Looks like this guy has some history with Luo Yao, huh? Who wants to bet he’s fucking her? Probably in an attempt to repeat something that happened with that pitiful Lin Feng fellow, hehehe.." I thought silently as I waited for the girls to try and debunk me.

"We know what you’re doing, and it won’t work—not this time. You won’t bait us into another one of your stupid deductions." Shaia grumbled.

"You call them stupid, but I have scarcely been wrong till now."

"Maybe, but even you must admit that your deductions this time are a bit too far-fetched. Yes, the sect master is probably fucking her, and that’s why her status seems different from the other elders within the sect, but you can’t possibly believe it’s for some cockamamie plot to take out your new friend. Why would the sect master have a reason to take out the emperor enthroned by the Calderans themselves when both sides are just the faces representing the same powers?" Shaia argued.

And I couldn’t help but agree.

I had just given out my words in an attempt to goad the women, as truly, such a scenario couldn’t have been possible—at least, that’s what I thought,

"Uhhh... I wouldn’t be so sure about that." Until Sana chimed in.

"Ehh?" Yet before I could inquire further, the reporting grand elder continued her report, "As for Elder Taixu, he..." The woman paused, almost as if considering her words.

"He what!? Spit it out." The sect master demanded.

"He... was beheaded by the emperor for showing disrespect."

"He... what?" The sect master seemed unable to believe his ears as he stared at the reporting elder.

"He... was beheaded by the emperor." The woman repeated, head bowed.

A heavy silence suddenly fell upon the place as the sect master stood silent, not an expression to be seen on his face—at least to those who lacked perception—but,

"Killing intent?" The flash of killing intent that vanished almost as quickly as it appeared in his eyes told me more than I needed to know about the current situation as my thoughts sobered up instantly.

"Sana... what is going on?" I asked, as my lovely tower spirit seemed aware of something I wasn’t.

"Well, I had decided to check up on the recent history of the High Planar Galaxies since I was wondering what your new blundering friend was truly like, and I found out something very interesting about this era’s emperor."

"And that is?"

"That he is a very, very stubborn man. An immovable mule in his staunch beliefs. The moment he became emperor, he exterminated the ruling Calderan overseer and took forceful control of the High Planar Galaxies."

"What?" I was surprised. Truly so. To think that bubbly Lin Xuan was such an overbearing fellow? But,

"If he dared to antagonize the Calderans in such a manner, how is he still alive? They should’ve already done something."

"Well, your friend at this moment has already attained the same level of strength that old emperor had all those years ago, so the Calderans can’t really do anything to him directly without destroying more than half of these galaxies, and they can’t do anything to him internally either, as the emperor has an iron grip on whatever happens within his castle. So now, there is a stalemate between the two sides."

"You mean..."

"The Calderans are currently the ones with true authority and power over the Spirit Ascension Sect, as they have cut the current Lin Imperial Family off from all sect matters, whilst the Lin Imperial Family, under the leadership of Lin Xuan, controls the entirety of the High Planar Galaxies. And with the Caldera family seemingly occupied with something else of urgent significance, they cannot spare more forces here, hence why they have yet to tear off their false masks of coherence."

"This can’t really be happening, right?"

"This... just what the hell is happening?" Shaia.

"So, you’re trying to tell me that Master’s earlier words might actually hold weight?" Elira.

"I’m not saying they might; I’m saying that’s exactly what it is."

"The emperor is currently under significant threat. A threat from none other than his baby sister and her treacherous lover."

...

...

"Fuck!"
