Chapter 280: Chapter 192: Faced with a Heartfelt Confession, Lu Fan Has Another Daughter-in-law?

Thankfully, no one else saw He Lingyi hug Jiang Sifan.

After hugging him for a few seconds, He Lingyi let him go. A smile bloomed on her face as she said, "Don’t worry, Brother Sifan. I’ll definitely work hard."

With that, she jogged back to school.

Jiang Sifan watched her leave, his heart aching for her, yet he also felt a sense of relief.

...

Two days later, Lu Fan drove to Qingshan Village again.

This time, he didn’t bring anything expensive, just a bag of fruit.

When he arrived at the Jiang family’s home, he saw Pan Lanfang hanging laundry in the yard.

"Auntie, busy as ever?" Lu Fan greeted with a smile.

Pan Lanfang turned around, and her face immediately broke into a wide smile. "Xiaolu, you’re here? Come in, come in!"

Lu Fan walked into the yard, placed the fruit under the eaves, and asked, "Is Uncle doing any better today?"

"Much, much better!" Pan Lanfang said. "That medicine you brought the other day really worked wonders. He stopped coughing after taking it for two days. He’s gone out to the fields just now. Said he wanted to check on the crops."

Lu Fan nodded. "That’s good."

Pan Lanfang had him sit down in the yard and fussed over him, bringing him tea and water. She was incredibly hospitable.

After chatting for a bit, Lu Fan stood up and said, "Auntie, I’m going to the fields to see Uncle."

Pan Lanfang was taken aback and quickly shook her head. "Why would you go to the fields? It’s filthy there, nothing but mud."

"It’s fine. I want to see what the crops look like, too. After spending so long in the city, it’s a rare chance to see things like this," Lu Fan replied with a smile.

Pan Lanfang couldn’t stop him, so she had to let him go.

Lu Fan followed the village path toward the fields.

After walking for about ten minutes, he saw Jiang Guoqiang in the distance, bent over and busy in a vegetable patch.

"Uncle!" Lu Fan called out.

Jiang Guoqiang straightened up, turned to look, and said with some surprise, "Xiaolu? What are you doing here?"

Lu Fan walked over and looked at the vegetable patch. The leafy greens were a vibrant, healthy green.

He smiled and explained, "I came to see you, Uncle, and to check on your vegetables while I was at it."

"Thinking about our vegetables again, are you?" Jiang Guoqiang chuckled. Just as he was about to say more, he suddenly coughed twice.

Lu Fan quickly said, "Uncle, you haven’t fully recovered yet. Don’t overexert yourself. Why don’t you rest and let me do it?"

Jiang Guoqiang stared for a moment, surprised. "You? You know how to do this kind of work?"

Lu Fan rolled up his sleeves and said with a laugh, "If I don’t know how, I can learn. You just have to teach me."

Seeing his posture, Jiang Guoqiang was a little touched, but he still said, "No, no, I can’t let you do this."

Lu Fan had already bent down and pulled out a weed. "Uncle," he asked, "this is a weed, right? It needs to be pulled?"

Seeing how serious he was, Jiang Guoqiang couldn’t refuse any longer and began to instruct him. "That’s right. You have to pull that kind of weed out by the root, or it’ll just grow back in a couple of days."

Lu Fan nodded, squatted down, and started pulling weeds.

His movements were a bit clumsy, but he worked very diligently.

Jiang Guoqiang watched from the side, a warm feeling spreading through his chest.

’Are there still young people like this nowadays?’

Yes, a top-tier, trillion-dollar tycoon was currently weeding a vegetable patch.

If this were in a novel, it would be the kind of plot readers would flame.

The two of them worked in the fields all morning.

Lu Fan’s pant legs were covered in mud and his hands were caked with dirt, but he didn’t mind at all, working until his face was beaded with sweat.

Seeing him like that, Jiang Guoqiang’s heart ached for him. He told him to take a break several times, but Lu Fan always said he was fine and would work a little longer.

Around noon, Pan Lanfang came to deliver lunch, carrying a basket.

When she saw Lu Fan squatting in the field, covered in mud, she froze.

"This... Xiaolu, what are you doing in the fields?" Pan Lanfang hurried over.

She quickly looked at Jiang Guoqiang and said angrily, "Old man, how could you let Xiaolu work in the fields? He’s a county official!"

Jiang Guoqiang was about to explain.

Lu Fan looked up, wiped his sweat, and said with a smile, "It’s nothing, Auntie. I’m just helping Uncle with some work and getting a bit of exercise at the same time."

Pan Lanfang looked at him, her eyes turning a little red.

’This child... he’s just too genuine.’

She put down the basket and called the two of them over to eat.

Lu Fan wasn’t picky either. He just squatted at the edge of the field, holding his bowl, and started to eat.

Jiang Guoqiang watched from the side, moved beyond words.

After lunch, Lu Fan helped Jiang Guoqiang work for another afternoon.

He worked with all his might. Although his movements were clumsy, he didn’t slack off in the slightest. He pulled the weeds that needed pulling and loosened the soil that needed loosening, too busy to even wipe away the sweat pouring down his face.

It wasn’t until the sun was about to set that he finally straightened up. Looking at the neat and tidy rows of vegetables, a satisfied smile spread across his face.

Jiang Guoqiang walked over. Seeing him splattered with mud and his pant legs covered in dirt, he suddenly felt a pang of guilt.

"Ah, Xiaolu," Jiang Guoqiang said, taking his hand. "You really worked hard today. Look at you, all covered in mud... This old man doesn’t know how to thank you."

Lu Fan smiled and replied, "Uncle, please don’t say that. I’ve been in the city for so long, it’s rare for me to do any manual labor. It actually feels pretty good."

Jiang Guoqiang shook his head. "You kid, you’re just too genuine. Look, your hands are all red and raw."

He looked down at Lu Fan’s hands and saw that there were indeed several red marks, chafed from the work.

He felt even worse.

Watching from the side, Pan Lanfang’s eyes reddened again. "Xiaolu, you child, how can you be so good? Hurry back and wash up. Your clothes are all dirty. Don’t catch a cold."

"It’s nothing, Auntie. It’s an honor to work," Lu Fan explained cheerfully.

Jiang Guoqiang patted his shoulder and said, "Xiaolu, when you have time in the future, just come over to sit and have a meal. Don’t always be working. We’re happy just to have you visit."

Lu Fan nodded. "Okay, Uncle. I’ll come when I have time."

He got in his car and saw the old couple in his rearview mirror, still standing at their gate and waving at him.
