Chapter 446: Chapter 247: Lu Fan Handles Everything! Relationship with Jiang Sifan Repaired
Jiang Sifan stood up, his voice tinged with surprise. "What are you doing here?"
Lu Fan walked in and glanced at their clasped hands. The corner of his mouth twitched upward, but he said nothing and sat down in a nearby chair.
"I came to see you two." He looked at Wen Wan, his gaze gentle. "Wen Wan, I know about the situation with your mother."
The color drained from Wen Wan’s face.
Jiang Sifan grew tense as well. He looked at Lu Fan, his lips parting, unsure of what to say.
Lu Fan looked at them, his tone calm, as if speaking of something that had happened long ago. "Don’t be nervous. The matter has been resolved."
Wen Wan was stunned, her eyes widening slightly. "Re... Resolved?"
Lu Fan nodded, leaning back in his chair and folding his hands in his lap.
"I had someone find your mother and have a talk with her. She won’t force you to go on those blind dates anymore."
Tears instantly welled up in Wen Wan’s eyes.
She covered her mouth, trying not to sob aloud, but tears still streamed from between her fingers, running down her hand.
She buried her face on the table, her shoulders shuddering as she cried softly, as if afraid to make a sound.
Watching her, Jiang Sifan’s heart ached with a mix of sorrow and tenderness. He reached out, wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and gently pulled her closer.
She leaned against his shoulder and cried even harder.
"How... How much money did you give her?" Jiang Sifan asked, hesitant and embarrassed.
Lu Fan gave a light chuckle, his smile making the matter seem trivial. "Four hundred thousand. She had accepted three hundred thousand from the Liu Family, so I gave her four hundred thousand on the condition that she would no longer bother Wen Wan."
Jiang Sifan froze.
Four hundred thousand.
He lowered his head, clearly growing more flustered.
He thought about the few thousand yuan in his bank account—not even enough to cover a fraction of it.
He thought about his studio’s accounting books; after months of hard work, the money he’d earned wasn’t even enough to pay for one of their fancy meals.
He suddenly felt useless, like he couldn’t do anything at all.
Wen Wan’s tears flowed uncontrollably. She lifted her head to look at Lu Fan, her face streaked with tears.
Her voice was choked with sobs as she spoke haltingly, "Uncle Lu, I’ll pay this money back. I promise I will. Just give me some time, I..."
Lu Fan looked at her and smiled. It was a warm smile, not distant like it usually was.
"No need to pay it back. You’re my son’s girlfriend, which makes you like a daughter to me. There’s no need to repay money spent on family."
Wen Wan shook her head, her voice firm despite the sob catching in her throat. "No, I have to pay this money back. I can’t just take your money for nothing."
Looking at her earnest expression, Lu Fan’s heart suddenly softened.
He was reminded of Silu. She’d had the same expression when she first called him ’Dad’—eyes red, stubbornly refusing to cry.
He glanced at Jiang Sifan, then back at Wen Wan, and said, "How about this: consider the money a loan to you two. Once you start working, you can pay it back slowly. There’s no rush. If you can’t pay it back in a year, take two. If two years isn’t enough, take five. I won’t pressure you."
Jiang Sifan looked up at Lu Fan.
His eyes were red, but he held back his tears.
He took a deep breath, his Adam’s apple bobbing, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Thank you."
Lu Fan stood up and patted his shoulder, the pressure just right.
"Alright, enough with the thanks. Just treat this girl well."
He walked to the door, paused, and looked back at them.
"Oh, right. If your mother agrees, she’ll sign a written pledge, which will then be notarized. After that, she won’t be able to trouble Wen Wan again. You two just focus on your studies and your work. If anything comes up, just let me know."
With that, he pushed the door open and left.
The sound of his footsteps in the hallway grew fainter and fainter until it disappeared completely.
Wen Wan remained with her face on the table, crying for a long time.
Jiang Sifan sat beside her, gently patting her back without saying a word.
His eyes were red, too, but he didn’t cry.
He just kept patting her back, over and over, as if comforting a child who’d had a nightmare.
After a long while, Wen Wan lifted her head and wiped her tears.
Her eyes were red and her hair was a mess, with a few stray strands stuck to her forehead.
She looked at Jiang Sifan and said through her sobs, "Class President, your dad is really nice."
Jiang Sifan nodded, a hint of emotion in his voice. "He wasn’t before, but now... he’s pretty great."
"Don’t worry, Class President. I’ll pay this money back in the future," Wen Wan said firmly.
"Not ’I.’ ’We,’" Jiang Sifan emphasized once more. "We’re together now, so we’ll bear this burden together."
As he said this, the studio fell silent, the only sound the ticking of the clock on the wall.
Neither of them spoke, but their hands remained tightly clasped, refusing to let go.
As Jiang Sifan held Wen Wan, his mind replayed what Lu Fan had done.
’He... seems like he’s actually been pretty good to me.’
