Chapter 465: Chapter 254: Jiang Yixia Is Used to Having Lu Fan By Her Side
Jiang Guoqiang stared into his daughter’s eyes for a few seconds, then sighed and said no more.
That evening, Jiang Ming returned, bringing a roast chicken and a few side dishes.
"Mom had me bring this. She said you should eat something nice," Jiang Ming said, placing the food on the bedside table.
Jiang Guoqiang glanced at the roast chicken, then at Jiang Ming. "Where’s your mother?"
"She’s at home. Said she isn’t coming tonight and that Sis should go get some rest. I’ll be on duty tonight."
Jiang Guoqiang nodded, picked up his chopsticks, and took a piece of chicken. He chewed for a moment. "Hm, not bad."
Jiang Yixia stood up and gathered her things. "Dad, I’m heading out then. I’ll be back tomorrow morning to take you home."
"Be careful on your way," Jiang Guoqiang said, glancing at her. He then added, "Text me when you get home."
"I will."
Jiang Yixia left the hospital room, walked to the end of the corridor, and waited for the elevator.
The elevator doors opened. She stepped inside and pressed the button for the first floor.
Her phone vibrated. It was a message from Lu Fan: [Did the specialist see him? What did they say?]
Yixia: [They said his recovery is going well. He’s being discharged tomorrow.]
Lu Fan: [That’s good. Have you eaten?]
Yixia: [Not yet, just left the hospital.]
Lu Fan: [Go get something to eat. Don’t starve.]
Yixia stared at the message, hesitated, then typed a few words, only to delete them.
’Have you eaten yet?’ she thought, but it felt too familiar.
In the end, she just replied with a simple "Okay" and tucked her phone into her pocket.
By the time she walked out of the hospital’s main entrance, the sky was already growing dark.
The streetlights had come on, casting an orange glow on the sidewalk.
She walked along the road until she reached the small restaurant where she had eaten with Lu Fan last time. She stood outside for a moment before pushing the door open and going inside.
The owner recognized her and greeted her with a smile. "You’re here! All by yourself today? That gentleman didn’t come with you?"
"He’s not here." Yixia found a seat and ordered a bowl of wonton soup.
The wonton soup was brought over, steaming hot.
She picked up her spoon, took a bite, and hissed as the heat burned her tongue.
She remembered Lu Fan sitting across from her last time, pouring her water, putting food on her plate, and saying, "Don’t worry too much, the snake venom isn’t that serious."
Yixia shook her head and went back to eating her wontons.
When she finished and came out, the sky was completely dark.
She hailed a taxi and gave the driver the address of her flower shop.
As the car drove on, the streetscape outside flashed past her window.
Leaning against the window, she watched the neon lights outside and suddenly remembered something.
The big wedding order for next Saturday. Yixia hadn’t even started preparing for it.
The flowers hadn’t been ordered, the design plan wasn’t finalized, and the staff hadn’t been scheduled.
After picking up Jiang Guoqiang from the hospital tomorrow, she had to rush back to Yangcheng. Time was tight.
She took out her phone and sent a message to her flower supplier, ordering a batch of Eden roses, hydrangeas, and lisianthus.
He replied quickly: [Boss Jiang, that’s a pretty large quantity. I’ll have to get them from Kunming, so they won’t arrive for three days.]
Yixia: [No problem. As long as they arrive in three days.]
After sending the message, she leaned back in her seat, closed her eyes, and started running through the plan in her head.
For the main stage, pink Eden roses paired with white baby’s breath.
The archway would feature pink Eden roses, accented with some white lisianthus.
The reception table would have hydrangeas and lisianthus, arranged with eucalyptus leaves.
The table centerpieces could be simpler: lisianthus and baby’s breath in small vases on each table.
The bride’s bouquet would be pink Eden roses and white baby’s breath, tied with a silk ribbon. The boutonnieres would be small lisianthus with a touch of baby’s breath.
She went over the entire plan in her mind. It seemed solid. Now she just had to wait for the flowers to arrive to get started.
The taxi stopped in front of the flower shop. She paid the fare and got out.
The shop was closed. She took out her key, unlocked the door, went inside, and turned on the lights.
The flowers in the shop hadn’t been watered in days, and some had started to wilt.
Yixia quickly grabbed a watering can and started watering them, pot by pot.
She was about halfway through when her phone rang.
It was Lu Fan.
She hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Home?" Lu Fan’s voice came through the phone.
"At the shop. Not home yet," Yixia replied, still watering the plants.
"What time is your dad getting out tomorrow?"
"In the morning. Jiang Ming is picking him up."
Lu Fan chuckled. "Well, get some rest soon. Don’t stay up too late."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Yixia placed her phone on the counter and continued watering.
Once she finished with the flowers, she tidied up the shop, throwing out the wilted blooms and rearranging the remaining ones.
By the time she was done with everything, it was almost ten o’clock.
She turned off the lights, locked the door, and started walking home.
A cool night breeze drifted by.
She pulled her jacket tighter and walked under the streetlights.
When she reached her building, she looked up at her apartment window.
It was dark. The lights were off.
She went upstairs, opened her door, and flicked on the lights.
The apartment was empty and quiet.
She changed her shoes, tossed her bag onto the sofa, and went to the kitchen to boil some water.
Once the water boiled, she poured herself a cup and sat on the sofa, cradling the warm mug in her hands.
Her phone vibrated again.
It was from Lu Fan: [Home now?]
Yixia: [Yeah, just got home.]
Lu Fan: [Get to bed early. You have to travel tomorrow.]
Yixia: [You too.]
After sending those two words, she stared at the screen for a few seconds before adding another message: [Thank you for today.]
Lu Fan replied instantly: [I told you, no need to thank me. Your dad is my dad.]
Yixia stared at the five words—"Your dad is my dad"—and froze for a second.
She bit her lip, typed a few words, deleted them, and finally just sent back: "Good night."
Lu Fan replied with "Good night" as well.
She set her phone down on the coffee table, held her mug, and gazed at the moon outside her window.
