Chapter 485 -259: Yixia, Silu, and Sifan’s Family Moves into the Villa
Then, she scooted a little closer to Jiang Sifan, her arm brushing against his.
Jiang Sifan’s body stiffened for a moment, but he didn’t move.
“Brother Sifan, are you cold?” He Lingyi asked.
“I’m not.”
“I’m a little cold,” He Lingyi said, pulling the blanket up and scooting a little closer to him.
This time, their arms were pressed together. Her skin was cool and smooth.
Jiang Sifan’s heart began to beat faster. He shifted to the side, trying to create some distance, but the bed was only so wide. He had already reached the edge; any farther and he would fall off.
“Don’t move anymore, or you’ll fall off,” He Lingyi said with a laugh, reaching out to pull his arm. “Come a little closer to the center.”
She gave his arm a tug, and his body slid a little toward the center, their shoulders touching.
“Brother Sifan, you’re so warm,” He Lingyi’s voice was very soft.
“Yeah, I run hot.”
“Then you can warm my hands for me.” He Lingyi reached over and tucked her hand into his palm.
Her hand was small, her fingers cool and soft.
Jiang Sifan held her hand, not knowing whether to let go or to hold it. He froze, completely still.
“Brother Sifan, were you happy today?” He Lingyi asked.
“I was.”
“I was happy, too. These past three days have been the happiest of my life.” He Lingyi’s voice grew fainter and fainter, as if she were talking in her sleep.
Jiang Sifan didn’t respond.
He Lingyi scooted a little closer again, pressing her whole body against his. Her head rested on his shoulder, her hair tickling his chin.
Her breath ghosted across his neck—warm, with a faint, sweet scent.
“Brother Sifan, your heart is beating so fast,” He Lingyi said softly.
Jiang Sifan said nothing. His heart only beat faster.
He Lingyi lifted her head, looking up at his face in the darkness.
Their faces were very close—so close they could see the light reflected in each other’s eyes.
“Brother Sifan,” she whispered.
“Yeah?”
Before Jiang Sifan could react, He Lingyi leaned in and planted a kiss on his cheek.
Her lips—soft and warm—lingered on his cheek for a second before pulling away.
“Good night.” He Lingyi burrowed under the blanket, rolled over to face the other way, pulled the covers up over her head, and curled into a ball.
Jiang Sifan lay in bed, motionless, as if he’d been petrified.
He could hear his own heart, THUMP-THUMP-THUMP, like someone was beating a drum in his chest.
His face was burning hot. The spot on his cheek where she’d kissed him felt like it had been branded by fire—scorching and tingly.
After a long moment, He Lingyi peeked out from under the blanket, stole a glance at him, and quickly ducked back in.
“Brother Sifan, don’t read too much into it. I was just… just wanted to say thank you.” Her voice, muffled, drifted out from under the blankets. “Good night.”
Jiang Sifan opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but it felt like there was a lump in his throat, and no sound came out.
He lay there, eyes open, staring at the ceiling.
He rolled over, turning to face He Lingyi.
She was already asleep, her breathing even. The blanket had slipped down a little, revealing one of her shoulders.
The strap of her nightgown had slipped down again, and her smooth, rounded shoulder seemed to glisten in the dim light.
He reached out and pulled the blanket back up, covering her shoulder.
Then he rolled back, faced the ceiling, and closed his eyes.
His heart was still racing.
His phone buzzed. He picked it up and saw a message from Wen Wan.
[Class President, have you been with your friend these past couple of days?]
Jiang Sifan froze for a second before replying: [Yeah.]
Wen Wan: [You haven’t come home the last two nights. Are you staying with him?]
Jiang Sifan: [Yeah. I’m seeing him off tomorrow.]
Wen Wan: [Okay, well, be safe and don’t get too tired.]
Jiang Sifan stared at the four words, “don’t get too tired,” and felt a pang in his heart.
He typed a line of text, deleted it, typed another, and deleted it again.
Finally, he just sent: [Okay. You should get some sleep.]
Wen Wan: [Good night.]
Jiang Sifan: [Good night.]
He placed his phone on the nightstand, rolled over, and stared at the ceiling.
He Lingyi was fast asleep, her breathing soft. Occasionally, she smacked her lips, as if she were dreaming.
Jiang Sifan watched her face for a long time.
Then, he closed his eyes.
That night, once again, he couldn’t fall asleep.
The next morning, when He Lingyi woke up, Jiang Sifan was already sitting on the sofa.
He was still in yesterday’s clothes, his hair was a mess, and he had huge dark circles under his eyes, looking like a panda.
“Brother Sifan, did you not sleep again last night?” He Lingyi asked as she sat up, rubbing her eyes.
“I did,” Jiang Sifan said with a smile.
“Liar. Look at those dark circles, they’re practically down to your chin.” He Lingyi laughed. “Was it because I kissed you last night? Were you too nervous to sleep?”
Jiang Sifan blushed and didn’t answer.
He Lingyi burst out laughing, bending over with the force of it. When she finally finished, she hopped off the bed, ran over to him, and squatted down. Looking up into his eyes, she said earnestly, “Brother Sifan, you’re honestly so cute.”
Jiang Sifan stared at her face, not knowing what to say.
He Lingyi stood up and went to get ready.
The two of them packed their things, checked out of the room, and hailed a cab to the airport.
During the entire ride, He Lingyi leaned against Jiang Sifan’s shoulder without saying a word.
Her hand clasped his, their fingers intertwined tightly.
Once at the airport, Jiang Sifan helped her get her boarding pass and check her luggage. He Lingyi clutched the pass and stood before the security checkpoint, looking at him as the rims of her eyes reddened.
“Brother Sifan…” Her voice trembled slightly.
