Lu Yao leaned in and asked curiously, “Uncle Lu, can we go with you?”

“Of course,” Lu Fan said with a smile.

They all got into the car. Chen He started the engine, and the vehicle headed in the direction of the Jinling Branch.

After driving for over twenty minutes, they pulled up in front of a towering building.

Jiang Silu stepped out. Looking up at the structure before her, her mouth formed a perfect “O.” The building was so incredibly tall that one had to crane their neck all the way back to see the top. Its glass curtain walls shimmered under the sunlight, making the entire structure look like a massive crystal pillar.

“Dad, this is your company?” Jiang Silu’s voice cracked.

“The Jinling Branch,” Lu Fan replied with a smile. “Our headquarters is in the capital. This is just a regional branch, though it’s still fairly large.”

Standing beside them, Lu Yao craned her neck at the building and muttered, “This is just ‘fairly large’? This building has to be at least thirty stories tall, right?”

“Thirty-two,” Chen He chimed in from the side.

Covering her mouth, Song Miaomiao whispered to Liu Shiting, “Silu’s family is way too rich.”

Liu Shiting remained silent, staring at the building with a complex look in her eyes.

Lu Fan led the way, guiding the girls into the building.

The lobby’s ceiling was immensely high—at least eight meters. A massive crystal chandelier hung from above, and the marble floor was so polished it could reflect a person’s image. Two young women in professional attire stood behind the front desk. Seeing Lu Fan enter, they immediately stood up.

“Hello, President Lu,” the two receptionists greeted in unison.

Lu Fan simply nodded without a word, walking straight toward the elevators. The girls trailed behind him like a brood of chicks following a mother hen.

The elevator ascended to the twenty-third floor, and the doors slid open. The corridor was long and covered with a dark carpet that completely muffled their footsteps. Abstract paintings hung on the walls, with potted greenery placed every few steps. The entire floor felt quiet and brightly lit.

Lu Fan led them to an office door and pushed it open.

Inside sat a woman in her early thirties, dressed in a crisp white blouse. Her hair was pinned up meticulously, and she was currently looking down at her computer screen. Hearing the door open, she looked up. Spotting Lu Fan and Jiang Silu, she quickly stood up.

“Boss, Young Miss,” Jiali said with a smile. “You’re here.”

“Sister Jiali,” Jiang Silu greeted warmly.

Jiali nodded and turned her gaze to Lu Fan. He took a seat on the sofa, gesturing for the girls to do the same. Jiali brought over freshly poured tea, handing a cup to each of them.

“Jiali, what design projects does the group have recently?” Lu Fan asked.

Jiali thought for a moment before replying, “There are two. One is the renovation of the showroom at the Yangcheng headquarters, which requires interior design. The other is a landscape enhancement project for the Jinling Branch’s campus, which requires a landscaping proposal.”

“Give the showroom renovation project to Silu,” Lu Fan said in a flat tone. “Give her the landscape enhancement one, too. Let her use them for practice.”

Jiali nodded and smiled. “Understood, Boss. I’ll have Xiaoya coordinate with the Young Miss. She can relay the specific plans and requirements.”

Sitting on the sofa and listening to their conversation, Jiang Silu felt her heart racing.

The showroom renovation at the Yangcheng headquarters. The landscape enhancement at the Jinling Branch. Either one of these projects was vastly larger than all her previous commissions combined.

“Dad, I can’t handle such massive projects all by myself,” Jiang Silu said nervously.

“Who said you’d be doing it alone?” Lu Fan chuckled. “The company has a team of designers. Xiaoya will help you. You’ll primarily be responsible for the conceptual design, while they will help you finalize the construction drawings and technical details.”

Jiang Silu breathed a sigh of relief, though she still felt a bit uneasy. “I’m afraid I won’t do a good job.”

“If it’s not good, revise it until it is,” Lu Fan smiled. “There’s no rush. You can take your time.”

Jiali smiled from the side. “Don’t be nervous, Silu. You know Xiaoya. She helped review your drafts before, so you’ve already worked together. She’s a highly experienced designer. With her guiding you, there won’t be any issues.”

Jiang Silu nodded, took a deep breath, and smiled. “Okay, I’ll give it a try.”

Seeing his daughter looking both nervous and excited, Lu Fan couldn’t help but laugh. “Jiali, have Xiaoya come over for a moment,” he instructed.

Jiali nodded, picking up her phone to send a message.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. A young woman walked in. She wore her hair in a low ponytail, sported round-framed glasses, and was dressed in a dark blue dress, looking exceptionally capable.

“President Lu,” Xiaoya greeted with a smile before turning to Jiang Silu. “Silu, long time no see.”

“Sister Xiaoya.” Jiang Silu stood up, looking a little embarrassed. “Thank you for your help last time.”

“You’re welcome,” Xiaoya smiled. “I looked at your design proposal. It was very imaginative, though it still needed some polish on the finer details. This new project is a perfect opportunity for you to practice.”

Jiang Silu nodded, feeling much more reassured.

Lu Fan stood up and patted Jiang Silu’s shoulder with a smile. “Let’s go. I’ll take you to see your workspace.”

The group left the office, with Xiaoya leading the way. They walked down a corridor and arrived in front of a glass door. Xiaoya pushed it open to reveal a spacious open-plan office. Sunlight streamed in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, making the entire room bright and airy. A dozen or so desks were neatly arranged, cluttered with computers, blueprints, and various design magazines.

“This is the Design Department’s workspace,” Xiaoya introduced. “Silu, your workstation is over there.”

She pointed to a spot by the window. Jiang Silu walked over and stood next to the desk. A computer sat on it alongside a small potted plant. The view from the window was spectacular, offering a sweeping panorama of half of Jinling City’s skyline.

“This is my workstation?” Jiang Silu could hardly believe it.

“Yes,” Xiaoya said with a smile. “You can come over whenever you like. Just let me know in advance, and I’ll arrange everything for you.”

Jiang Silu turned around to look at Lu Fan, her eyes red. “Dad, thank you,” she choked out.

Lu Fan walked over and affectionately ruffled her hair, smiling. “Don’t cry. There are so many people watching.”

Jiang Silu wiped her eyes and smiled.

Standing nearby and witnessing all of this, Lu Yao couldn’t help but sigh in admiration. “Silu, your dad is just too wonderful.”

Song Miaomiao nodded in agreement. “Exactly! I wish I had a dad like that too.”

Liu Shiting remained silent, but a faint smile touched her lips.

After taking a lap around the Design Department, Lu Fan showed them around the company’s other floors. Each floor was massive, housing various different departments. The sheer scale of it all left Jiang Silu dazzled, her sense of awe growing with every step.

“Dad, is this entire building ours?” she asked.

“Mhm.” Lu Fan nodded. “All thirty-two floors.”

Jiang Silu gasped.

Lu Yao whispered from the side, “Silu, exactly how rich is your family?”

Shaking her head, Jiang Silu laughed. “I don’t know either.”

By the time they finished touring the company, the sky was already growing dark.

Lu Fan instructed Chen He to drive the girls back to their university. He stood at the company entrance, watching them get into the car.

Jiang Silu leaned out the window and waved at him. “Dad, when are you heading back to Yangcheng?”

“In a couple of days,” Lu Fan replied with a smile.

“Will you come see me again tomorrow, then?” she asked.

“I’m busy tomorrow. How about the day after?” he chuckled.

“Alright. See you the day after tomorrow!” Jiang Silu said brightly.

The car started moving. Jiang Silu kept her head out the window, her eyes fixed on Lu Fan until the vehicle turned a corner and he was out of sight.

Lu Fan stood at the entrance for quite a while, gazing in the direction the car had vanished, before finally turning around and heading back inside the building.

When he returned to his office, Jiali was still there. Seeing him enter, she stood up. “Boss, Xiaoya has already organized the project materials. She’ll send them to Silu tomorrow.”

Lu Fan nodded and took a seat on the sofa. Looking out the window, he saw that night had fully fallen, the city lights flickering on one by one.

He recalled how Jiang Silu had raised her hand to answer the question in class today, how she had craned her neck to look at the top of the company building, and how her eyes had turned red as she stood by her new workstation. This child had truly grown up.

Lu Fan smiled, stood up, and grabbed his coat. “Let’s go. It’s time to head back,” he said.

Jiali nodded, switched off the lights, and followed him out of the office.

Inside the elevator, Lu Fan stared at his reflection in the metal doors. “Jiali, do you think Silu will be able to handle those projects?” he asked suddenly.

Jiali pondered for a moment before smiling. “Yes. The Young Miss is talented and eager to learn. She just lacks experience. She’ll be fine once she gets a few more projects under her belt.”

Lu Fan nodded, saying nothing more.

The elevator reached the ground floor, and the doors slid open. As Lu Fan walked out, Chen He’s car was already parked at the entrance. Getting in, Lu Fan leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes.

“Back to the manor, Boss?” Chen He asked.

“Head to Jinling Institute of Technology. I’ve finished seeing my daughter, so I should probably check on my son,” Lu Fan replied.
