Chasing His Ex: The Tycoon's Hidden Twins
Chapter 539: Lu Fan Takes Jiang Sifan to Buy a Car! First Car!
“You’re always calculating things.” Jiang Yixia sighed, her tone softening a bit.
“I have to, don’t I? Aren’t you afraid of me spending recklessly?” Lu Fan chuckled.
Jiang Yixia laughed in exasperation and said helplessly, “Then don’t buy anything too expensive. He’s just a college freshman. A car worth a few tens of thousands is fine. He just got his driver’s license; driving a car that’s too nice isn’t safe.”
“Alright, I’ll listen to you,” Lu Fan said with a smile. “I’ll buy something a bit cheaper with high safety ratings.”
After hanging up, Jiang Yixia sat behind the counter of the flower shop, staring blankly at her phone screen for a moment.
Thinking it over, she scrolled to Jiang Sifan’s number and dialed it.
“Mom,” Jiang Sifan answered, his voice muffled.
“Sifan, I know about your dad wanting to buy you a car.” Jiang Yixia kept her tone very gentle. “What your dad said makes sense. Your studio moved over there, and it is indeed a bit far. Buying a car will make things more convenient.”
“But Mom, it’s too expensive.” Jiang Sifan was still conflicted. “I’m just a student. If I drive a car to school, what will my classmates think of me?”
“You’re the one driving. Why do you care what others think?” Jiang Yixia said with a smile. “It’s not like your dad stole the money. He’s buying it for you fair and square, so what are you afraid of? Besides, you already got your driver’s license. Are you just going to let it rust away by not driving?”
Jiang Sifan didn’t say anything.
Jiang Yixia sighed, her tone turning serious. “Sifan, your dad owes you both so much after all these years. Now that he has the means and wants to make it up to you, just let him. If you don’t accept it, it’ll break his heart.”
Jiang Sifan still didn’t speak.
“Plus, think about it. If you have a car, you can take Wen Wan out for a drive on the weekends. You won’t have to ride an e-bike every time, and you won’t get soaked when it rains.” Jiang Yixia smiled. “That girl Wen Wan has stuck by your side. The least you can do is let her ride in comfort, right?”
Jiang Sifan remained silent for a few seconds before finally saying, “I know, Mom.”
“Good.” Jiang Yixia smiled. “Don’t overthink it. Your dad is your dad, not some outsider.”
After hanging up, Jiang Sifan lay in bed, staring at the ceiling.
Gao Lao’s snoring paused as he rolled over, then resumed.
Qiu Zai finished talking in his sleep, mumbling something incomprehensible under his breath.
Jiang Sifan picked up his phone, opened Lu Fan’s chat, and typed a single line: [Dad, about the car, I’ll listen to you.]
After sending it, he placed his phone next to his pillow and closed his eyes.
That weekend, Lu Fan flew back to Jinling from Yangcheng.
Chen He drove to the estate to pick him up, and the car headed toward the city. Sitting in the backseat with his phone in hand, Lu Fan opened Jiang Sifan’s chat and sent a message: [Meet me downstairs at the Jinling Branch at 10:00.]
Jiang Sifan replied: [Okay.]
Lu Fan smiled and put his phone away.
At exactly 10:00, Lu Fan’s car stopped downstairs at the Jinling Branch.
Jiang Sifan and Wen Wan were already standing at the entrance. Jiang Sifan wore a clean white shirt, and his hair was neatly combed, making him look much sharper than usual. Wen Wan stood beside him in a light blue dress. She wore her hair down and had applied a light touch of makeup.
“Get in.” Lu Fan rolled down the window and called out to them.
Jiang Sifan and Wen Wan got in. Chen He started the engine, and the car headed toward the auto mall.
“Dad, where are we going to look at cars?” Jiang Sifan asked.
“The auto mall. They have every brand,” Lu Fan said with a smile. “Take a look first and see what you like.”
Jiang Sifan hesitated for a moment before saying softly, “I think buying a BYD will be fine. It’s just a few tens of thousands, and it’s enough for commuting.”
Lu Fan glanced at him through the rearview mirror but didn’t reply.
The car arrived at the auto mall and parked in front of a BYD 4S dealership.
The three of them got out and entered the showroom. The space wasn’t large, housing a few sedans and SUVs. They were all new energy vehicles, with sleek bodylines and paint that gleamed under the lights.
A salesperson came over to greet them. He was a young man in a suit, wearing a standard, practiced smile. “Hello, sir, are you looking to buy a car? Our latest Qin PLUS has excellent value for the price. It’s just over a hundred thousand out the door.”
Jiang Sifan walked over, opened the door to inspect the interior, and sat in the driver’s seat to test it out. Gripping the leather steering wheel, he found the texture quite nice. He glanced at the dashboard, then the center console, and nodded.
“Dad, this car isn’t bad.” Stepping out of the vehicle, Jiang Sifan turned to Lu Fan. “A hundred thousand is a reasonable price, too.”
Lu Fan didn’t say anything. He walked over to the car, inspected the exterior, and asked the salesperson a few questions.
The salesperson answered them one by one, giving a glowing sales pitch. After listening, Lu Fan turned to Jiang Sifan. “Let’s look at some others.”
Jiang Sifan froze for a second, but still followed him out the doors of the BYD dealership.
The second shop was Toyota.
The showroom was twice the size of the BYD one, displaying over a dozen cars ranging from the Corolla to the Camry, and the Levin to the Highlander.
The salesperson was a middle-aged man with silver-rimmed glasses, speaking in a slow, unhurried manner.
“Sir, for a family commuter car, the Corolla is very suitable. It’s fuel-efficient, durable, and holds its resale value well. It’s around a hundred and twenty to thirty thousand out the door.” The salesperson pointed at a white sedan in the middle of the showroom.
Jiang Sifan walked over and sat inside to test it. The seats were fabric and not as comfortable as the BYD’s, but there was a bit more space. He got out and looked at Lu Fan.
“Dad, this one is fine too.”
Lu Fan shook his head. “The Corolla is a good car, but the specs are too low. Fabric seats, and not even electronic seat adjustments. It won’t be comfortable on long drives. Let’s keep looking.”
Jiang Sifan opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but swallowed the words back down.
The third shop was Volkswagen.
The showroom was grand, paved with marble floors, and the cars were neatly arranged one by one.
