Chapter 154: WAITING FOR BOTH OF THEM

  • Next Chapter

Altair was quite surprised by how quickly Seara caught up with his intention when he brought her to the inner garden.

To be honest, he underestimated her because of her background in a psychiatric ward and her troubled past, which led him to perceive her as mentally unstable.

To put it simply, Altair expected to talk to a dumb woman. He didn’t interact with women in general; thus, in his eyes, Seara was an emotionally unstable woman.

Even so, her simple statement wouldn’t change his perspective quickly.

"You want me to know whether I can feel the devil or not," Seara replied. She stopped in her tracks, and Altair did the same. She stared at the watchtower where the devil had been locked up before. "Over there. I can feel the dreadful feeling coming from there, but it is very faint now. It is even more vague than yesterday."

The devil escaped about a week ago. If she could still feel its presence, it meant Seara could feel the lingering feeling for at least a little more than a week.

Altair took a mental note of that.

Since they lacked information about the devils’ abilities, it was crucial to gather as much information as possible about what Seara could do to counter them.

"Are you sure that it is not your imaginary friend who whispers to you?" Altair asked, and his voice carried a hint of disdain when he spoke.

Hearing it, Seara was not upset; she met Altair right in the eyes and spoke casually. "As a matter of fact, I am seeing one right now, and she asks me to tell you that she doesn’t like you."

Altair smirked. "That’s a relief, I guess. Glad to know that my charm will not affect an imaginary woman."

Seara could stand her ground and handle provocations better now that she had a clear mind. But of course, she couldn’t compete with someone like Altair, who possessed hundreds of years of experience and a life filled with sarcasm.

"What else can you do?" Altair asked as he refocused on the main problem. They started walking again, and he led her to the watchtower in question.

As they were walking slowly, Zephyr and Jazz followed behind them, feeling increasingly anxious. They silently hoped that nothing would go wrong, and they appeared even more nervous than the other two.

As for Ace, he had a lot of things to handle and left Seara’s safety to Zephyr.

"I don’t know. I can only feel a dreadful feeling when I am close to a certain person. I told Zade about it, and I think that’s how he knows that I can sense the devil."

It was rather impressive that Zade could draw such a conclusion.

"Don’t tell anyone about it. Not even your friend..." Altair then corrected himself. "Ah, there is nothing to be worried about, since you don’t have a friend."

Seara threw him a nasty look for that comment, but she stopped walking when they were right in front of the watchtower.

"I don’t want to go near that tower." She frowned and started to backtrack because the building felt tainted, as if it were contaminated.

Altair took note of this fact. From a few hundred meters away, Seara could sense the lingering feeling from the watchtower. And it seemed that the stronger the devil was, the stronger the fear she felt.

He remembered how she was trembling in fear when she was in the same building as Oliver and Jude. And it was so close to the watchtower that she finally couldn’t take it and decided to walk away.

Every detail of it was important if they were going to use her against the devils.

Altair needed to know more, but apparently his time was up, because the wind carried his scent first, even before Altair could see his figure.

Zade had come straight away from the hospital, and he was still wearing the same clothes he wore last night when he went to the inner garden, since he knew Seara was there.

"Zade!"

On the other hand, seeing Zade, Seara immediately rushed toward him and hugged him. She was glad that he was alright.

His arms wrapped around her body the way she liked it, and his scent calmed her nerves. She was a little bit agitated when she was close enough to the watchtower.

But now, with Zade here, she felt as if she could find her peace again.

"Is everything okay?" Seara asked worriedly; she lifted her head to look at her mate. She was well aware that Zade and the others had dinner with the devils, which was why she and Chloe were not allowed to attend.

"Not really," Zade replied. He kissed her forehead, and his voice was as gentle as ever. "But everything will be fine."

"I think there are a lot of things that we need to discuss." Altair was eager to get it done.

Just because the first appearance and attack came from Zade’s territory, it didn’t mean his territory would be spared. Therefore, he needed to prepare himself.

"We will discuss it later," Zade said. He didn’t need to ask; it was clear that Altair had finally come around and taken his suspicions seriously. He could see the calculation in his eyes, and he knew what he was thinking.

Zade would definitely think the same if it were Altair’s mate. He would see that Seara was a means to counter the new ability of the devils.

However, Seara was his mate, and he wouldn’t let anyone, not even Altair, use her that way.

"This is important," Altair insisted.

"My business is also important." Zade kissed Seara’s forehead, then took her hand as they walked back to the bungalow.

Meanwhile, Altair couldn’t believe it. First, he had to wait for Seara, and now he had to wait for Zade. All had happened in the span of one morning. He didn’t wait for anyone.

But what option did he have?
