Chapter 159: THE HOSPITAL WAS NOT SAFE

The instant the charge was announced, Zade knew it was bullshit; it was a baseless accusation, and for it to reach this point, someone must have pulled the strings behind it.

Even if Ace was crazy enough to kill Jude, no one would hear even a whisper of it. But the situation was different. The devil had gotten the right body in an authoritative position, where he could gather massive power from behind the scenes without a confrontation.

The media’s impact was damning as well, even when it had not been proven yet and the evidence was very limited. It sounded forced; even the lawyer was baffled that Ace could be prosecuted with such groundless evidence.

Not only that, but the residence had also become the crime scene. The police lines were everywhere, and everyone there was under interrogation.

This wouldn’t happen if the devil didn’t get the right position, because in the case of human law, Zade had a few trusted people who could handle it, but Owen was at the pinnacle of it.

And the devil played his card smartly, using humans to tie Zade’s hands.

"I will stay," Leia said firmly. "My mate and my son are here; I am going to stay with them. You go with Seara and Chloe."

Zephyr just informed Leia that he had received a new order from Zade that Jeremy would be needed in court to testify; the subpoena about it just arrived this morning.

Of course, they knew there was more to it. This whole court and criminal case against them were only a façade.

The devil only wanted to create chaos and pit them against the humans—throwing them off their game and gathering Zade’s inner circle into the devil’s palms.

"Leia, this is not safe." Zephyr was ordered to stay out of the court process, and his main priority was to keep Seara safe. It was crucial, since the devil would target her, whether it was through human law or by other means.

"I am not going anywhere, Zeph. My mate and my son are here. Even if I have to die, I am not leaving them." Leia didn’t budge, and Zephyr knew her well enough that no one could change her mind. She was so stubborn; even Zade wouldn’t be able to change her stance. "Go and take Seara and Chloe out of the territory. I will stay."

They were in the hospital cafeteria. Zephyr needed to step out a bit with Leia to convince her to come with them.

"Caspian will kill me, you know?" Zephyr massaged his temple. "He emphasized to me that I have to take you even if I have to sedate you."

"In that case, I will be the one who kills you."

Seara woke up with a start as she looked around her and found Chloe was sitting on the sofa, playing the game. She determined to beat Seara in this game.

Meanwhile, Jeremy put his focus on the television, which broadcast a live show about the situation around the residence.

That place used to be untouched, and not everyone could get closer to it, but now a few people camped outside of the main gates to get a glimpse of what was going on there and gathered exclusive news from the police, who investigated the crime scene.

Public opinion was divided. Some were astounded by the process and the lack of evidence, but others thought there was more to it. And as someone with a powerful position like Ace, he tended to do some shady things—no one should be so clean when they are in a high position.

And for Jeremy, it was his brother who was accused of killing his best friend, and his other best friend testified against him.

The news then shifted to the courtroom, where Oliver was testifying against Ace. Oliver testified that he had seen Ace kill Jude. The rest was nonsense.

It was difficult for Jeremy to watch it.

"You need to stop watching that," Chloe said. She put down her phone and grabbed the remote control from his hand and turned off the television.

"They are my friends."

"I know. But they are gone."

The simple truth in what Chloe said felt like a dagger that stabbed him. This was the worst possible thing that could happen when you lost your friends. You could see them, but they were no longer themselves, and you didn’t even get to say goodbye.

Jeremy didn’t even know when the last time he met the real Oliver and Jude was.

"Someone is coming," Seara said. She straightened her back and sat down, which startled Chloe.

"You scared me; don’t make sudden moves like that." Chloe clutched her chest, but she noticed the look on Seara’s face. "Oh, no. Don’t tell me..."

Right on cue, a nurse entered the room; she was supposed to check on Jeremy’s wound. After three days in the hospital, Jeremy was relatively fine due to his healing ability, even though the wound needed extra care. It was so deep and almost killed him, so the healing process on that spot was a little bit slow.

"Time to change your bandage," the nurse said flatly as she moved toward Jeremy and stretched out her hands to his neck.

Jeremy glanced at Seara, who shook her head. Meanwhile, Chloe was already at the door, ready to get the warriors.

"I will change your bandage." The nurse looked at Jeremy, but she didn’t really look at him when she reached for the syringe in her pocket.

However, before she could do whatever she was ordered to do, Jeremy grabbed her hand, pushed her onto the bed, and pinned her down as the four warriors outside entered the room.

"She is under the influence," Jeremy said grimly. He held down the nurse, who was trying to fight him. She said nothing but that she needed to change the bandage. "Where is my mother?"

The hospital was not safe.
