Chapter 160: DON’T DO ANYTHING RECKLESS
They tied the nurse to the chair while she was mumbling that she had to change Jeremy’s bandage.
"Shit. They reached us in the hospital," Chloe said in distress. She looked at the nurse and furrowed her brows. This was the first time for her to see someone under the influence of the devil, and she had mixed feelings about it.
She was fascinated but also scared.
"How can the devil influence other people? Did she lose her mind or something? Can’t she remember anything when she is under the influence, or is it like being trapped inside your own body?"
"I don’t know. I have never experienced that," Lidya said. She was one of the female warriors who was in charge of protecting Seara.
She had buzz-cut hair like a man’s; her black eyes were like a cat’s, which made her look sharp, and her gaze was intense.
"You will not live to tell the story if you are under the influence, because it means you are gone," Leigh chimed in. She was the opposite of Lidya, though the two of them were twins.
Seara didn’t even know that until Chloe told her about them, because aside from their sharp eyes, the rest of their faces weren’t exactly similar.
"We need to leave," Seara said, fidgeting with her phone. She had texted Zade about what happened in the hospital, but he must not have checked his phone.
When the first time the news about Ace was publicized, it was only at night that Zade was finally able to call her.
He reassured her that everything would be fine and that he needed her to follow what Zephyr said and stay safe.
[Zade, the hospital is not safe anymore.]
Seara sent the text. She didn’t call him because there was a chance that Zade might not pick up, so with a text, he could see it whenever he was available.
"There are more coming?" Jared asked; he was the tallest and a huge warrior. His voice was also heavy, which made her startle when he started talking.
"Yes. There are more." Seara nodded. "We need to leave."
"I have to get my mother first," Jeremy said. He got off the bed.
"We will go together." Jared held Jeremy back, forcing him to walk behind him. "Stay close; don’t go alone."
Lidya took Seara’s side while Leigh was with Chloe, and Kayden walked with Jeremy. Jared led them out of the room. He tried to call Zephyr and asked for his position, since he couldn’t reach him through the mindlink.
"We are in the cafeteria. Go to the parking lot; we will meet there. Leia is with me. Give the phone to Jeremy," Zephyr said as he handed the phone to Leia, while Jare gave the phone to Jeremy.
"Don’t do anything reckless; I am with Zephyr," Leia said hastily, as she followed Zephyr to the parking lot. "If Seara said she felt unsafe with someone, believe her. Don’t do anything reckless, do you hear me, Jeremy?" Leia repeated the words because she knew how her son was.
"Understood, Mom. Please, don’t get separated from Zephyr." Jeremy was worried about his mother too.
And after exchanging words of worry, they hung up the call and focused on how to get out of the hospital as soon as possible.
Jeremy had been discharged, and he only needed to walk out of there; therefore, no one should stop them. Even so, there was a nurse who approached and stopped them.
"You can’t leave; there is administrative..."
Jared turned around to look at Seara, and when she shook her head, he immediately knew this nurse was under the influence.
The devil was getting bold; it was almost like they wanted to see how many people they could influence in such a short time.
The nurse kept talking, and Jared led her somewhere.
"All of you need to come with me," the nurse said, but Jared grabbed her hand and took her to the spot where there was no one, and there was no surveillance camera that could catch what he was going to do.
Meanwhile, Seara and the others kept walking.
"What will Jared do to the nurse?" Seara asked worriedly. "Will he kill her?"
"He will not kill her. It will only complicate things if the nurse is dead," Lidya replied. "Jared will catch up with us later."
"Don’t go to the left; there are a lot of them there." Seara couldn’t say exactly how many there were, but she could feel them. It felt like they were being hunted.
There were hundreds of people in the hospital because it was the largest hospital in Wvern City, so it was difficult to avoid them all without causing a ruckus.
With Seara’s warning, they took the right side, and Jared joined them again. Seara noticed there was no blood on him, nor was he injured, which was a relief.
"Mr. Sol!" A nurse was about to approach them again; he saw them from a distance and waved his hand to stop them. "Wait, there is something I have to discuss with you. Mr. Sol!"
This time, Jared didn’t even bother to look at Seara for confirmation as he immediately took them to the elevator and closed the door quickly.
The nurse sprinted to catch up with them.
And Seara watched as he stood right in front of the closed door with an empty gaze, staring at them.
The elevator was made of glass; it was designed like a panoramic elevator so you could see the sight outside. And what made them hold their breath was how many people stopped what they were doing and turned their heads toward them, watching the elevator descend.
"Holly crap. How many of them?" Lidya started cursing.
The number of people who suddenly stopped and stared at them made it very obvious. At least there were twenty on each floor, and they had to reach the ground floor, where the parking lot was.
