Chapter 170: I AM NOT COMPLETELY USELESS, RIGHT?

"Forget is not an excuse, Jeremy. You can kill all of us with that," Zephyr said through gritted teeth. He saw him as his own little brother, but right now, he wished Jeremy were one of the warriors under him so he could kick his butt off for that stupid excuse.

"But how?" Jeremy insisted. "You have not yet heard what I have done. You have not heard what I got from the phone call. You can’t judge me on whether I make an error or not." He knew he was being stubborn, but he needed to understand where he got it wrong.

"You let them know the location of this place, Jeremy. That’s when you are wrong," Zephyr emphasized, stressing each word.

When Jeremy said he had found a spy within the Brooks family, it wasn’t difficult to deduce who it was. The Brooks family was a close friend of the family, either through business or children. Oliver was also like Leia’s son.

But right now, both Oliver and Owen were gone. They were merely shells used by the devils, so it was safe to say that Olivia was gone, too.

"How..."

"The phone call. How long did you have the phone call?"

Jeremy blanched when he realized his error. The phone call was indeed long enough for them to track it down here.

Zade had instructed them to turn off or throw away their phones in the hospital to lose the signal. However, when they arrived, Jeremy turned his phone back on and contemplated making a call to Oliver. He was struggling to accept the reality.

It would have been easier for him to accept that Oliver was dead—that he was gone—but Oliver was still alive.

However, Jeremy was hesitant, so he had kept his phone on ever since they arrived here.

"Now you understand?" Zephyr asked through gritted teeth.

When someone as easygoing as Zephyr turned very serious, scary was an understatement.

Zade took Seara to the beach. She was not allowed to go out of the house, even if her personal warriors or Zephyr accompanied her. Zade would give an excuse by saying he was worried, which was enough to keep Seara inside the house.

But the truth was that he simply wanted to be the first person to show it to her—walking on the beach at sunset.

Seara mentioned it once when they watched a movie together that she had never been to the beach before.

"Happy?" Zade asked when he watched Seara play with the waves barefoot. Her smile was contagious, and Zade couldn’t help but smile along with her.

He had wanted to take her here since day one, but he was very busy, and only now did he have some time off.

"Happy!" Seara said with a bright smile. Her hazel eyes lit up, and her auburn hair looked like it was on fire under the orange hue of the sunset.

Zade didn’t blink his eyes; he wanted to engrave this moment in his mind. Seara was a werewolf, and her lifespan was short...

And what pissed him off was that her lifetime had to collide with the dark time when the power of the devils was at its peak.

He had lost so much time, and he blamed himself for not being cautious and for causing the devil to be able to escape.

"Come here!" Seara grabbed Zade’s hand and pulled him to the water. She was beaming beautifully. Her white dress stuck to her skin because it had gotten wet. "This place is beautiful! I would love to live here."

Zade nodded. "Sure. We can live here."

The beach house was far away from the city, and if he distracted the devil with a false hiding place, they might never be able to find it. And Seara could live here peacefully.

Of course, it would be an ideal plan when everything went smoothly. But sometimes things didn’t go the way you wanted. Zade had learned that throughout his long life, especially when it came to the devils.

"How do you know there is a place like this?" Seara stood behind Zade, using his body as a shield when the wave came, and both of them fell.

"I don’t remember exactly when, but I wandered around this area aimlessly and saw this beach. I thought it was beautiful and bought the land. The house was built around two years later."

Zade answered her question seriously. However, he didn’t mention that the beach’s beauty had lost its luster for him after only a few months. By that time, construction of the beach house was already in progress.

He only came once after the house was done, but even then, the beach was no longer interesting for him. It was dull and mundane until Seara...

She brought back the spark of the beach with the way she was happy to see it.

"Thank you for sparing your time to take me here. I know you are busy." Seara sat next to Zade, watching as the sky turned dark and the sun disappeared behind the horizon. "I am sorry; I can’t help with anything during the meeting. I brought you down."

"No, you are not. Never think that way."

Seara cupped his face and pulled his head down so she could kiss his cheek. "You don’t need to shield me like that. I know what I saw in the meeting, and I have expected that. They want a strong mate for you, especially at a time like this, not a werewolf who lost her wolf spirit and can’t even shift into her own beast form."

Zade frowned, but before he could speak, Seara silenced him with a brief kiss.

"Don’t lie to me, Zade. That will not make me feel better. That will not help with my situation either." Seara brushed her thumb against his lips, and Zade kissed her palm. "There must be a reason I have the power to feel the devils, so I am not completely useless, right?"
