Chapter 171: THE BEACH HOUSE

"You are never useless, Seara." Zade kissed her palm. "And you are right. We will be fine. The devils have an ability that they didn’t have before, and now we have you. You are a blessing."

Seara had never seen herself as a blessing, and thinking of herself as one was a little far-fetched. Still, when Zade said it, it sounded beautiful and believable. No one had ever been this gentle and encouraging before.

Zade might not think too much about a simple word that he said, but for Seara to be called a blessing after she spent her life like a burden, it sounded very warm. It felt like her life was not completely meaningless.

"Thank you." This time, it was Seara who kissed his knuckles. "Thank you for being very kind to me. I know it is not easy to be with me."

"No. You are completely wrong." Zade tucked strands of her hair. "Being without you is the hardest thing I could imagine. If only you could see how precious you are in my eyes, you will know that you are the best part of my existence."

Zade wiped the tears from Seara’s cheeks as the last ray of sunlight fell on her face. She was smiling through her tears, and Zade was serious when he said if only Seara could see herself through his eyes...

"One day, when everything is over, take me sailing. I have never boarded a ship." Seara rested her head against Zade’s shoulder and buried her feet in the sand.

"Okay. We will do everything that you want." Zade held her hand tightly; he wouldn’t let her go.

And for a moment, the sound of the waves crashing to the shore and their even breathing were the only things they could hear. It felt like magic that brought peace to their minds.

It almost felt like the pandemonium out there was something that couldn’t touch them, as they lived in a different world.

But Zade was wrong. He heard Zephyr’s voice through the mindlink informing him of what Jeremy had done.

Seara could feel Zade tense up, and when she lifted her head to look at him, she noticed he was in the middle of mind-linking with someone. His expression changed, and it was very obvious.

"What’s going on?" Seara asked in confusion when Zade was done, and he stood up.

"We need to go back." Zade stretched out his hand to help her stand up.

"Is there something happening?" Seara took his hand and stood up as they walked back to the house.

The beautiful white beach house stood alone in the dark, the only source of light in this part of the beach.

Seara assumed Zade had bought a large amount of land around the beach house, which made it the only building here.

"Yes, Jeremy made contact with someone from the Brooks family," Zade replied grimly. Zade would have beaten him up for the stupidity if only he were not Caspian and Leia’s child.

Leia managed to convince him to let Jeremy keep his phone because he was depressed about losing his friends in such a way. And Zade owed Jeremy for almost killing him in his miscalculated plan.

On the other hand, when Seara heard that, she immediately knew how bad the situation was. "How long do you think we will have time?"

Zade sounded so grim when he answered the question. "Two or three hours."

That would be enough time to pack up and then leave the place before the Quantum Protocol was here. That was the official name that they had just announced for the joint unit between the police and the military.

Seara hastened her steps to follow Zade.

"Pack your things, Seara. We are going to leave shortly." Zade pushed open the door and saw Zephyr and Ace had been waiting for him.

"We have notified the alphas; twelve of them are still here, and they are already in the meeting room. As for the other alphas who have left ahead, we have informed them about the situation and told them to be on high alert," Ace informed Zade of what action they had taken.

The eight alphas who had left were the alphas whose territories were close to this beach house, so they could go back right away.

"Zephyr, stay with her," Zade said as he handed Seara over to his gamma and headed toward the meeting room with Ace.

"Come on, you need to pack your things so we can leave right away." Zephyr urged Seara.

From the sofa, Little Paw lifted his head and approached Seara, nuzzling its muzzle against her thigh until she scratched the back of its head.

"Where is Jeremy?" Seara asked Zephyr as they walked toward her bedroom to start packing.

"Oh, that foolish young man. Caspian and Leia ripped him a new one, and now he is holed up in his bedroom, lamenting his choice of life," Zephyr replied dramatically, as his usual self, which meant that he was fine now.

Seara felt bad for Jeremy. He had been very quiet ever since what happened at the hospital. He didn’t want to talk about it and bottled everything up.

"What actually happened?" Seara took her jeans from Little Paw’s mouth as he tried to destroy them.

Zephyr told Seara in detail what Jeremy had done. "I know he feels confused, but this is not the time for that. And somehow, he has this weird fixation that Oliver was still there, somewhere. He thought he could talk to him and get his friend to regain his consciousness—as if Oliver could just snap out of it if Jeremy tried hard enough."

They understood what he went through, but this was not the time for that. There were lives at stake for a genuine mistake.

"Can I see him?" Seara zipped her bag.

"I don’t recommend that, but you can if you want. He is a little bit sulky right now, though."
