Claimed by the Mad Lycan King
Chapter 177: I NEED TO BE THERE
"You’ve planned something?" Seara asked. She let Zade use her thigh as a pillow as he explained what he planned to do with his eyes closed.
His voice was getting smaller and smaller. His words were a little bit incoherent when he talked.
"And..." Zade didn’t continue, and Seara realized he had fallen asleep. He put his guard down, and his lips were slightly apart.
"You must be exhausted," Seara said softly, as she caressed Zade’s cheeks and threaded her fingers in his hair. "Be quiet, okay?" She warned Little Paw, who moved closer to her and snuggled against Seara on the other side.
Now, she couldn’t move without waking Zade or the wolf.
It was dark outside because it was the middle of the night, and after two days of being here, she already missed the sound of the waves crashing against the cliff or the shore.
Seara missed the salty scent in the air. She had only walked on that beach once, but it would forever become her core memory. She wished one day they would be able to walk there again.
She leaned against the sofa and kept playing with Zade’s hair until she fell asleep too. It was exhausting for two days, though she didn’t really do anything.
Zade invited her to all the meetings with the alphas, keeping her in the loop on what was going on and making her aware of their strategy, but at the same time, Seara knew that Zade wanted to make sure none of the alphas, betas, or the gammas had been compromised.
She didn’t mind that, because that was her argument when she decided to stay and argued with Zade not to send her away.
If anything, Seara wanted to be more helpful, but she couldn’t think of how to help lessen Zade’s burden.
The next day, when Seara woke up, she was already in bed, tucked under the blanket comfortably, with Little Paw sleeping next to her, but Zade was nowhere to be seen.
She rubbed her eyes and got out of bed quickly to clean herself up because she remembered there was a morning meeting in about half an hour from now.
Zade must think that she was too exhausted to attend the meeting; that’s why he didn’t wake her up. They would need to have a talk about that, though.
Currently, they occupied an old apartment building that was still operating on the outskirts of the city; it was three hours away from the beach house and was in a different pack territory, though it was still within Zade’s domain.
Apparently, this place was also one of his properties, and Seara was no longer surprised by how many properties he owned. Still, she wondered how Zade could still use his money when his account and anything related to the Blaze Company were frozen.
Because they had a lot of people who would stay, Zade and his people occupied the top three floors.
And the meeting happened one floor below.
"You are awake?" Leigh greeted her; she was right outside her bedroom, playing with her phone. She must be the one in charge of guarding her today. "I thought you would not join the morning meeting, because the king said to let you sleep."
"I am awake now. Good morning, Leigh." Seara smiled at her; she was wearing a lovely floral shirt with jeans, and her hair cascaded down her back. If no one told Seara that Lidya was her twin, she wouldn’t believe it, since the two of them were very different.
"Good morning to you too." Leigh grinned; she escorted Seara to the elevator. Her eyes glistened because she mind-linked the other three to inform them where they were going.
"Where are the others?" Seara waited for the elevator with Leigh, but she couldn’t see the other people.
"They assumed you would not wake up until later, so they were doing some errands," Leigh explained why she was left alone.
Seara didn’t ask much more; they both waited for the elevator to come, and when it did, that was when Seara felt it. The discomfort at the back of her head. The dreadful feeling that seized her chest.
"Are you okay?" Leigh asked as Seara staggered. She held her by the elbow to steady her. "What happened?"
Seara didn’t answer her right away, but she forced herself to enter the elevator, and Leigh followed.
"Mind-link Zade," Seara said. She tried to keep her voice steady. "Use mindlink to ask Zade if someone has just joined the meeting."
Leigh didn’t understand what happened, but she did what she was told. "Alpha Oscar, from the Sharp Stone Pack, just arrived because he had something to take care of."
Seara wished she still had her mindlink ability so she could communicate with Zade freely.
However, since she couldn’t do that, there was only one way to do it, because Leigh didn’t know what she could do. And Zade wanted it to be a secret, just in case one of her warriors fell into the devil’s hands and they could read through their memory.
Zade and the other Lycans had concluded that the devils could have the memories from the person who became their host. It was based on the way Oliver and Jude interacted with Jeremy during the dinner weeks ago, which felt like a lifetime already.
Seara called Zade; she didn’t go into the room quickly. She could see the meeting room on the left side from the elevator, and there were a few warriors who stood on guard outside.
"Zade?" Seara called his name when he picked up her call on the first ring.
"Are you sure about that?" Zade asked; his voice was even.
"Yes. But I need to go inside to be more sure who that is exactly." Seara didn’t want to make a wrong accusation. Though Alpha Oscar had just arrived, without seeing him in person, Seara couldn’t tell if it was really him.
"Okay," Zade said after a long pause.
