Chapter 1299: Extra: The Wedding—The Right Choice (Part 2)

  • Next Chapter

After dinner, putting Rachel to sleep, Alice Robinson and Chester Robinson snuggled on the sofa in their room, looking at the star-filled sky outside the window.

Alice leaned on Chester’s shoulder, reflecting, “Tomorrow is our wedding day, it’s really quite incredible.”

Chester wrapped his arm around her waist, laughing, “What’s incredible?”

Alice turned her face, looking deeply at him, “I never thought there would be a day like this for us.”

Chester sighed, “Yes, we’ve taken so many detours between us, even nearly missing each other.” Chester’s face was filled with guilt and remorse, “I’m sorry for not knowing how to cherish you before, letting you suffer so much.”

Alice shook her head, wrapping her arms around his strong waist, “As long as you love me from now on, that’s enough.”

He bowed his head and kissed her lips, saying in a deep magnetic voice, “I definitely will.”

Alice closed her eyes and leaned back on his shoulder again, “Chester…”

“Hmm?”

“Do you think a smart woman is cuter or a silly one?”

“Of course, a smart one is cute, like you.”

“But I’m not smart, I’m silly, sometimes even foolish.”

“Even if you’re silly, you’re cute.”

“I…wait.” Alice tilted her head, squinting at him, “How dare you call me silly?”

Chester laughed heartily, hugging her tightly and giving a kiss, “Darling, you’re truly a delight.”

Alice laughed along, “Alright, it’s late, we have to get up early tomorrow for makeup and such, time to sleep.”

“Hmm.”

Chester picked Alice up from the sofa, heading towards the big bed in the room.

After placing Alice on the bed, Chester gently kissed her forehead and said, “Darling, you sleep first, I have something to take care of.”

Alice held Chester’s hand, “Hasn’t Ada already helped you postpone your schedule and business?”

Chester chuckled softly, “Darling, after we get married, we’ll spend two months on our honeymoon, you don’t want me handling those annoying business matters during our honeymoon, do you?”

“Okay!” Alice released Chester’s hand.

Chester tucked in Alice’s blanket, “Sleep well, get enough rest, tomorrow will surely be a tiring day.”

Alice blinked her beautiful big eyes, “Hmm.”

Chester stood up and exited the room.

Soon after Chester left, Alice got up and silently went to the study.

The door to the study wasn’t completely closed, and she could see him through the crack.

She saw him sitting in front of the white laptop, looking thoughtful.

Was he worried about work, or thinking about someone?

Alice’s heart was in turbulence, he stared at the computer screen, while she stared at him.

Time passed quietly until he leaned on the chair back, sleeping wearily.

A few minutes after he fell asleep, she gently pushed open the study door and walked in.

He usually slept lightly, but today he seemed deeply asleep.

She walked to his side, looking at the computer.

The screen had already gone dark, she gently clicked it.

A photo quickly popped up on the screen, it was a picture of him dancing with Becca.

He was truly looking at Becca’s photo.

Her body shook with a heavy jolt, her throat suddenly choked with a sourness.

She softly bit her lip, staring blankly at the photo of them, her hand clutching the corner of her dress tightly, very tightly.

Her eyes uncontrollably reddened, and her eyes burned with pain.

She forced her eyes wide open, holding back the moist sensation, then looked at him.

As he slept, he resembled a big boy, starkly different from his usual deep-thinking self, appearing harmless.

She remembered seeing him like this the morning after their first night together.

Back then, she hoped that when she woke the next day, she could marry him…

Now that wish is about to be fulfilled, why has she lost the anticipation and longing of those days, feeling so uncomfortable and in pain.

Why let her see that he still remembers Becca, why isn’t this situation, which she predicted, happening after tomorrow?

After tomorrow, she will become his wife, she won’t be able to regret… Why doesn’t fate grant her even this little grace?

Her heart aches so much, this heart-wrenching pain makes her just want to find a place to bury herself right now, licking her wounds alone.

What to do?

She can’t do it…

Turns out she can’t mindlessly live a life with him, turns out she still hopes for all of his love…

She turned around, walking out of the study like a zombie.

Her heart beating slowly developed a hard cocoon encompassing the softness, blocking the warm blood flow―

She stubbornly followed his figure, refusing to give up until she could no longer hold on…

Her heart was bleeding.

She was like a machine doll with a programmed language, repeating words to herself again and again, perhaps not even understanding what she was saying, each heavy step leaving traces of heartbreak on the road.

The heart is broken yet held in her chest, still trembling with a glimmer of hope.

The next day.

The weather was pleasant, with not a cloud in the sky.

Perhaps even the heavens were being kind, it was a perfect day for a wedding.

Putting on the dress, doing her makeup, her beauty received praise from Aunt PA, who hurried over from Paris yesterday.

“Miss, you look absolutely stunning in this wedding dress.”

Alice stood before the mirror, looking at her noble and elegant self, her mind sketching the scene of her and him walking down the red carpet together.

“Miss…”

Aunt PA’s repeated calls snapped Alice out of her daze.

“Uh, Aunt PA.”

Aunt PA walked up to Alice, asking in a kindly voice, “What’s wrong? You seem so dazed.”

Aunt PA, after all, was the one who cared for her as she grew up, instantly noticing her oddity.

She smiled dispassionately, “No, what did you say to me?”

Aunt PA smiled, saying, “It’s the first time I’ve seen a wedding dress without exposing the chest, back, or arms look so beautiful…”
