Contract Marriage: Enemies With Benefits

Chapter 11: Caller ID: Personal demon

[Thanks for the ride to get my car earlier. Things went weird with the family and although I had mentally prepared myself, I don’t feel good. Maybe, I will just stay at my place and rest tonight...]

Sienna stopped typing the message mid-way. She read it once and frowned, ’Am I telling him too much about my affairs if I say it like this?’

[Hey, my father kind of shooed me out of of the family house. So, tonight, I want to stay by myself!]

Sienna read the message and frowned even harder, ’I sound a little pathetic. Knowing Callahan, he would not let go of the chance to mock me.’

[I am not feeling good so I will just stay at my place for the night.]

’Doesn’t it sound like I am asking him to comfort me?’ Sienna hit the backspace again as she pressed her head on the steering wheel.

She had parked the car in front of the apartment building, and all she needed to do was drop a text, then go to rest in her penthouse.

But apparently, Sienna Qing had never been the person to do the explaining, at least not after her mother passed away.

And that couldn’t be more obvious in all the messages she had typed and backspaced.

’Ring’

Sienna picked her phone and the moment she glanced at the caller ID, her eyes widened.

’Personal Demon’

She double checked the number but she had saved it herself when she got off his car earlier so she wasn’t mistaken.

Callahan Hawke was calling her, right after she tried to text him for 30 minutes and failed in using her lifetime’s vocabulary to put the words together. And she did not have a good feeling about it.

Her doubts were proven right. The moment she answered the call, she heard the cockiness in the man’s voice.

"One would think you just wrote and backspaced a confession, Miss Qing."

"Hah..." Sienna rolled her eyes, "A confession to you? Are you sure I would participate in such demonic rituals?"

"People from the elite club who saw you with roses, asking to be my wife would have something to say about it," the man said.

Sienna sighed, "What do you want?"

"When are you coming back?"

"I was thinking I should..."

"It’s our wedding night, Mrs. Qing, you cannot be thinking of spending it alone, can you?"

"W-Wedding night... right but..." Sienna was stunned.

"Could it be possible that you did not think of it when you decided to marry me?"

Sienna raked her fingers through her hair, nearly wanting to rip them off in the process, "No, how could it be? I’m always perfect at the things that I do," The truth? Not a single time had the thought crossed her mind.

"Ours is a contract marriage, not a fake marriage," the man dropped another blow in his cool tone.

Sienna was thinking of a fake marriage when she first approached Callahan but she knew it wouldn’t fool people for long. And they had the real deal indeed.

"I agree with what you are saying but it’s already late. I just returned from the family mansion. I don’t think I want to drive more..." Sienna paused, "We can... talk of this some other day. Don’t bother yourself to come here all the way to pick me up again."

There was silence on the other side.

Sienna heaved a sigh of relief but before she could fully relax, the man spoke up again.

"I did not have to bother myself."

Sienna froze when she heard the voice by her right side.

When she turned to the side, Callahan stood there, dressed in his prim and proper suit, holding a phone to his ears. They had parted for a while now but not a single hair was out of place from his head.

The man opened the car door and like a perfect gentleman, he had one hand extended to her.

As if on cue, an angel spouted on her left shoulder, ’Tell him you had never thought about the wedding night and back off from this in time. This is only heading towards disaster.’

The devil on the right shoulder swished the pointy tail, ’Ah, show a weakness to Callahan Hawke? Remember when you were eight and he got to know about your strawberry allergy? He kissed you after eating a bunch of them and you got those rashes for a week!’

The angel shivered, ’But sex is sacred. You cannot do those holy things with a man who has been an enemy your entire youth.’

The devil smirked, ’Who says it has to be holy? Just do some unholy things and make him an enemy who comes with benefits. Given how hot he is... you are not losing out on anything... anyway!’

Callahan raised a brow, "It seems like you..."

"Oh, no! Not at all," Sienna placed her hand in his, fully calm and composed, "I was just surprised to see you. Let’s go. It’s our wedding night."

Callahan wrapped his fingers around her palm and led her straight to the black Maybach parked at a little distance. Engrossed in laying traps for each other, both failed to notice the sparkly lens peeking through the bushes at a little distance.
