Chapter 5: A call

With a slight tilt of her wrist, Sienna let it fall.

Thud.

The red marriage certificate landed gracefully on top of a designer box.

The lawyer’s smug expression froze, "What kind of a prank is this?"

"I will doubt your qualifications if you can’t tell an original from a prank," Sienna said softly.

Hesitating, the lawyer looked down again as her eyes skimmed the document.

She then snatched it up and flipped it open. In her haste, she did not even bother to see who the ’husband’ was.

She skimmed the document to search for any evidence that it was fake.

But there, embossed in silver ink under the official state seal, was a valid registration timestamp: 10:15 AM today.

The lawyer’s face drained of every drop of color until she looked like a ghost. Her fingers trembled against the stiff paper as she looked up in disbelief, "You... you’re legally married?"

"Which means my mother’s inheritance clause was fulfilled an two hours ago," Sienna stepped forward, her heels clicking against the marble floor until she stood inches from the pale woman, "And your client’s purchase contract is legally null and void."

The lawyer opened her mouth, but no sound came out.

"You have sixty seconds to order your hired muscle to carry every single one of my boxes back up to my penthouse," Sienna smiled, her eyes cold as ice, "Because if a single item is scratched, I’m suing you for unlawful entry, harassment and property tampering."

The lawyer’s face turned solemn.

Within a few seconds, the people scampered around.

"Talk to your manager about this," Sienna spared a fleeting glance at the receptionist who shrunk and nodded, "A second time of this and I will see him in court."

She had just stepped towards the elevator when something caught her eye.

Sienna stopped in her tracks and looked in the direction of the main gates where she could catch a glimpse of a black car, ’Is that...’

Callahan had no reason to stay back for so long.

Shaking her head, she stepped into the elevator.

Once she got to the penthouse, Sienna finally poured herself a glass of water and slumped on the couch.

Before she could put the glass down, her phone started buzzing.

Sienna picked her phone and when she saw the unsaved number, her fingers trembled lightly.

She watched the phone ring till the call got disconnected.

But before she could put the phone down, it rang again.

Sienna answered the call and a drunken voice mocked her from the other side.

"You cannot stay put for a day without acting like a slut, can you?"

Sienna’s eyes hardened and a cold smile formed on her lips, "Please, watch your words, Mr. Hawke."

"What? Just because you want to sleep with my brother, you have decided to be formal with me now?!" The man did not mince his cruel words.

Sienna froze. There were a lot of words forming in her mind but none made it to the tip of her tongue.

"You got silent, huh? Surprised how I know it? I have even seen how shamelessly you threw yourself at Callahan!" The man laughed, "But don’t get too ahead of yourself. He would never stop to look at the likes of you. He has plenty of sluts trying to climb his bed..."

Sienna inhaled a shaky breath as she cut him off, "Seth, we have broken up. My personal life is none of your business."

"And don’t you know why we broke up? If it wasn’t because of you being such a..."

Sienna disconnected the call.

A sense of chill permeated her entire body and suddenly the glass of water turned heavy in her hands.

She moved to put the glass of water on the table but all the strength seemed to have left her body.

’Ring’

’Crash’

The doorbell rang and the glass dropped from her hand, shattering on the floor.

Sienna closed her eyes, shaking her head hard but suddenly, unwanted images started flooding her mind.

’Ring’

The doorbell rang again and Sienna’s eyes snapped open.

"Hah... no..." She heaved deep breathes of air and rushed to the door.

The door opened with a ’click’ and Callahan put his hand away from the doorbell.

"It’s... you?" Sienna slowly blinked, her eyes still glossed over.

"You handled the situation just fine without my help but I still need to discuss..."

Before the man could finish speaking, Sienna stumbled forward.
