Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 397: A Flower Blossomed To Be Unfruitful
[MOSKOWSKY]
The elevator stopped on the fiftieth floor.
More like the governor pressed the stop button. He was inside the huge elevator with some of his best soldiers armed to the teeth and a meek secretary who was staring at him with soft, tender eyes.
How could someone so innocent be working for the devil himself?
Even if the pay was good, this was way too much innocence to be kept in a building of monsters like this one.
"What is your name?" the governor asked, turning to Rahim, who was fidgeting.
Her hands were shaking, her lips trembling, as she struggled to put on a pair of huge glasses that made her look like the nerd of the century, cursed to sit behind a desk for the rest of her life.
"I... why did we stop, sir?" Rahim asked meekly, fixing her glasses like that was all she could afford.
The governor didn’t miss the still-shaking hands, so he reached out and held them as if to reassure the woman.
"Everything will be fine. I just wanted to make sure you were okay. Heard you breathing shakily and got worried," Governor Morozov said.
Rahim stared softly, smiling into his eyes, the glasses making her look softer than she could ever be.
"Th... Thank you, but Mr. Moskowsky doesn’t appreciate lateness. Please, shall we go?" Rahim pleaded, and the governor stared at her worriedly.
This woman had gone from calling the madman Sergei to Mr. Moskowsky. And that right there was something the governor figured he could exploit.
In fact, he believed that Rahim had slipped up earlier and that she hated Sergei Moskowsky.
"You did not tell me your name," the governor said, and Rahim stared softly, head bowed and playing with her fingers.
"Rahim, sir," Rahim said, straightening up.
"Isn’t that a man’s name?" the governor pointed out while the other soldiers in the elevator snickered at that.
"My parents gave it to me. They said omegas needed strong names so they wouldn’t be harassed," Rahim mumbled, and the governor raised a hand to her cheek.
The woman flinched.
"I won’t hurt you, Rahim. I won’t let Sergei hurt you too," Governor Morozov assured her before continuing.
"Why did you call him Sergei earlier and change to Mr. Moskowsky now?" he asked, as if he figured this was the one exploitable weakness.
"Please don’t tell him I said that. Please," Rahim said, her voice trembling.
"I will not. But only if you give me an answer, darling," the governor said, and Rahim almost growled at the name.
Fuck.
"Please, sir. Mr. Moskowsky will punish me again if I don’t take his visitors to his office early. Please," Rahim begged, and the governor sighed softly before pressing the button to continue their journey.
Through it all...
He held Rahim’s hand.
Even when the public elevator dinged on the seventieth floor, the executive floor of the Moskowsky building, he still held her hand.
The moment the soldiers stepped out, they stayed alert, scanning for anything, but they got nothing.
No sign of any warriors.
In fact, Anya was standing at the door of her office, staring at them with a bored look, like this was seriously not the time for them to be interrupting her afternoon.
She was always suffering. She was babysitting her son and her son’s boyfriend, which wasn’t easy because her son was clearly useless everywhere.
"Arrest him fast, and go. I need some peace and quiet," Anya said when she noticed these men were still scanning the place.
Then she went into her office, slamming the door so loudly that even the governor flinched.
But then he composed himself, his hand still holding Rahim’s.
"Sir, please let go of my hand before Mr. Moskowsky sees me," Rahim said quietly.
The governor looked at her, pity on his face as he brushed Rahim’s hair.
"You’ll be fine, I promise. You can even come work with me after this. I will take good care of you," he said, and Rahim just nodded before stepping back from the governor.
Then she led the governor to the CEO’s office. There, they found two of the three that they were looking for.
Andre Stepanov and Svetlana Vasilieva.
They were not just seated.
They were bickering.
"I told you that little shit didn’t have a flu. He just missed the barbarian," Svet insisted, glaring at the door like it was supposed to make things any better.
"And I’m telling you, he really should have gone after last night. But decided to stay in. If I knew I would come to this place and find friends’ sex smell, I would have very much gone back home and slept," Andre grumbled.
"Ten bucks says he’s going to be carried out."
"Twenty says they won’t even bother stepping out."
"Fifty says both of you are wrong," Volkov said, joining the gamble.
"The governor is here," Rahim announced, and they paused to look at her.
"Now who the fuck is this Grandma Betty?" Svetlana snorted hard, standing up to stare at Rahim a little more, like she couldn’t even believe what the fuck she was seeing.
"Guys, the governor is here, please," Rahim said, her voice meek as she adjusted her glasses.
"Good goddess, she even knows how to say please? Shit, whatever happened to her needs to stay like that because holy fuck, what the hell?" Volkov said as he pulled out his phone and took a photo of Rahim like it was just a normal day.
They all were pretending they didn’t see the governor there, which was even more unsettling given the manpower the governor had as backup.
"Hold on, guys. Do you think Romanov is going to forgive us?" Svet added, and they all groaned at her.
"You’re being a Debbie Downer," Volkov groaned, and they all glared at Svetlana.
"Rahim, darling. Would you please call Mr. Moskowsky for us and tell him we are here," Governor Morozov said in the tone of a man who had just found the loophole in the Moskowsky building.
"Okay, sir," Rahim said as Volkov, Svet, and Andre held back fits of laughter. It was like they were having a field day today, which rarely happened. But who could really blame them at this point, though?
"He called her darling, and he still has his head intact... maybe she is really a good secretary today," Volkov snorted, even as the men the governor had come with stared in confusion.
"Have a seat, Governor. We wouldn’t want Monsieur Moskowsky killing us for not offering you a seat," Andre snorted as he grabbed a chair and wheeled it to the governor, who had never been that confused.
"Mr. Moskowsky is coming," Rahim announced, and the trio just kept on laughing while taking photos of Rahim, who looked ridiculously older and too simple-minded.
The governor didn’t even get to take his seat when Sergei stepped out of the door behind Rahim, and boy did he look... devoured?
"Pay up, Volkov... I called it," Rahim said, showing her hand to Volkov, who defeatedly pulled out a twenty-buck bill and handed it to her.
"Were you attacked by insects in your office, Sergei?" Svet snorted as she stared at Sergei, then at her friend who was hiding behind the alpha.
"Sir, I have a request," Rahim said to Sergei.
"Sure, what is it?"
"May I throat-punch the governor?"
The soldiers got ready to fire.
Rahim didn’t even bother with them.
"Why?"
"He called me darling."
"Don’t break his throat badly. We still need him to ask us questions."
Rahim didn’t wait.
