[FROLO]
The governor was still in disbelief even as the crew walked out voluntarily.
There was something suspicious about all this, and honestly, he was on very, very high alert. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down.
Thankfully, they got to the ground floor lobby, with the employees watching in silence, unbothered even. They looked like this was just another day for them, and they were waiting for the governor and his men to stop disrupting the operations.
Somewhere in the batch of employees and warriors, someone was watching.
Reporting back.
Telling the Bratva leader whatever the fuck was happening right here. It was insane in the kind of way that no one would ever understand yet.
"They are willingly going along?" the soldiers wondered in silence.
Even the media personnel who had been called to show live footage of the Moskowskys and the Romanov group being dragged away were shocked. This was not what they had been expecting. In fact, for both empires, the day was a little too peaceful.
Weirdly so.
Still, there was nothing that they could say screamed a trap. Because the cooperation was evident. No one was playing games.
"Proceed as planned," Aleksandr said to one of the operatives he had hidden among the endless soldiers and personnel that had been allowed access to the Moskowskys by rule of law.
It was something that was so dangerous because Aleksandr wasn’t just playing the long game. He was playing the kind of game that would end with the Moskowskys gone. It was easy, really.
Alek was watching the live feed too from his headquarters. Not because of the feed that the media were showing, but from his direct feed. He had people embedded to give him the information.
So when he said to proceed as planned, he knew what was next.
And he wasn’t surprised.
Especially when there were sniper shots aimed directly at Katya Romanov.
He had directed that. made sure his soldier knew what to do, and when to do it. It was the kind of choice that left so many looking for answers that would never make sense to them. But what the hell, right?
Katya Romanov was the center of all this madness; Aleksandr had managed to figure it out. And right now, he was going to maximize it so well. So much so that the Moskowskys stayed scared of whatever would happen to Katya Romanov.
It was easy, right?
Besides, Katya was just a mere omega. Romanov or not.
At the end of the day, he was just another pretty little thing that needed his alpha to keep him safe. And Alek would attack that protective system perfectly and get his wins in the war.
The sniper shot was released, but it didn’t even get to Katya because Rahim’s sniper shot intercepted it at the perfect moment. She was lying in wait on the helipad, scanning for any dangers along with the other Moskowsky mercs hidden in plain sight.
For a moment, everything went still.
Sergei didn’t make a move toward anyone other than his omega. He had to make sure Katya Romanov was alright. He needed to.
"Solnyshka..." Sergei said, only to find Katya sandwiched between Svetlana and Andre.
"Do you still want to choose peace, Romanov?" Svet asked as she covered Katya. The omega knew there was a lot of danger, but he had not expected this. Not like this anyway.
Sergei looked at Katya.
Hell, even the governor looked at Katya as shots flew around and Rahim and Volkov fought from a distance.
One word from the omega and the game would change.
Even the governor knew it.
"I thought it would be peaceful," Katya mumbled softly, his eyes brimming as Sergei’s pheromones strove to keep him sane.
He was scared. He’d never been in the direct line of fire like this, and he was trying his very best to remain steady.
"We’re gonna need an answer, Solnyshka," Sergei cooed, his pheromones creating an impenetrable block wall around his omega and the two Romanov friends.
Svet didn’t try to stop Sergei.
If anything, she just stepped to the side, trusting the madman’s pheromones to keep the omega safe.
Svet and Andre were alphas, and naturally they should have been unsettled about being around another alpha’s pheromones. But they had far more important things to deal with than the potential power dynamic.
"Lyubim..." Sergei said softly.
"I... I wanna go home," Katya breathed, a tear falling down his cheeks.
And that...
That was the signal all the Moskowsky employees needed.
Katya Romanov wanted to go home, so they would make sure he did.
Soon enough, the soldiers who had been armed to the teeth stepped back instinctively. The governor, who had been surprised that his prisoners were cooperating, was staring at the madness that was happening around him.
The Moskowsky employees who had looked so harmless were suddenly armed as desks and drawers were pulled open and weapons exchanged hands in the kind of system that was unnerving.
"Sergio... Go! Take him with you. Hercules will handle this," Rastenkin said, dropping the name that had the governor wondering what the fuck that was supposed to mean.
Oh, but he would learn all about it.
He would know who the fuck the Hercules were.
Willingly or unwillingly, the dice had been cast.
"Rastenk—" Sergei began, but Anya showed up suddenly.
"Do what you have to do, Boy Genius. I’ll take care of Romanov. If you leave any of them alive, I’ll come finish it myself," Anya said to Sergei, who stared at her in excitement.
And in that moment Katya saw it.
The glint in Sergei’s eyes at the mention of a bloodbath. It was darker than what he had always seen on Svet and Andre’s faces. It was crazy and creepy in the kind of way that made the omega know that this wasn’t his beloved.
This was the devil of Frolo.
"Solnyshka..."
"Come back to me. Don’t you dare die out there," Katya said, pulling Sergei into a rough, desperate kiss.
When he pulled back, he grabbed the gun from Anya’s hand and put it in Sergei’s hand.
"Come back to me... All of you," Katya said, looking at the Hercules camp. They were all here, and frankly it should have scared Katya. But he knew there wasn’t a need to be scared of these people.
They would be fine.
"I love you," Katya said one more time before he walked back to the building, with the Moskowsky personnel making way for them like it was their guard of honor.
When they got into the private elevator and the elevator stopped at the penthouse door, then began coming back down, the staff notified Sergei.
Then hell broke loose.
The soldiers who were still collecting evidence inside the Moskowsky building were suddenly surrounded by different employees.
Thing is, today... the regular Moskowsky employees had been changed.
The shifts had been changed because war was coming. In their places were people who looked fairly normal, but people who were capable of taking lives with their bare hands.
The entire Moskowsky building, even the researchers who had been in the lab when the governor came in...
Were all assassins.
All seventy floors.
The civilians who used to work there were working from home, away from the chaos that surrounded the company.
"What the hell are you doing?" the governor spoke when he realized there were a lot of things happening at the same time.
He knew he should have run the moment that Katya Romanov had gotten inside the building with no one stopping him. He should have left even without the prisoners because right now...
He was watching himself stand in the middle of a battlefield.
"Go say hello to Aleksandr, Governor. Tell him we are still not interested in whatever he is offering. I know you’re working with him. It’s the only reason you had the mind to get this far," Sergei mocked, his laughter echoing through the emptiness in the company like it was just another day for them.
"What?" the governor asked, like a man who was not aware of the shit he’d walked right into.
But maybe it was because the bullets were constantly missing him.
Maybe it was in the way that Sergei’s pheromones had shocked the hell out of him.
The governor had never seen Sergei fight with his pheromones, let alone create an impenetrable shield.
They knew the man had never used his pheromones in a war before, yet he had done it today.
For Katya.
The one omega who the governor was unwillingly watching become everything to the most insane of empires.
The omega who was worth every fight. Every sacrifice.
He, along with the government, had underestimated what Katya Romanov meant to these people.
Now he was seeing weaponry skills that were out of this world. He was learning that the entire building was just filled with assassins.
And he was learning not to breathe Katya Romanov’s name the wrong way.
"You need to start preparing condolence letters for the families of your soldiers, Governor. Because we will kill them all...
"And grind them at Romanov Steel," Andre said as he grabbed the soldier who had been in hand-to-hand combat by the neck and stabbed the man in the chest before cutting his neck clean, unbothered by the amount of blood oozing.
But as the governor stared, he also realized another thing.
Sergei Moskowsky was not just the devil of Frolo.
Sergei Moskowsky was the devil.
And the heart in Sergei’s hand was proof of it all, especially when he bit into it, then spat the contents onto the grass like the sun was high up.
What the fuck was Sergei Moskowsky?
"You can never defeat me with your toys, Governor," Sergei said before he grabbed the governor’s hand and twisted it so harshly that they all heard the sound of bones breaking and ripping through the skin.
"Safe travels," Sergei said calmly before he slapped the governor’s head off his neck.
