Contract Marriage: Married to My Ex-Husband's Alpha Stepfather [BL]
Chapter 399: I am What I Am, Or Maybe I’m Not
[MOSKOWSKY]
When the governor chose to come to Moskowsky HQ in person, he was confident.
Determined to show who held power and who didn’t.
Determined to make sure the powerful understood what the stakes were because something had to give.
The security personnel he had come with should have been intimidating for the Moskowskys, yet here he was. In the CEO’s office, sat on a chair and was unable to move because these psychos thought it was a really good idea to release a nerve agent into his system.
He wasn’t even sure when the hell that had happened, but goodness, it really was something else. This was the kind of shit no one had prepared him for because honestly, he didn’t even know what to expect anymore.
"The governor is a bit stuck. Maybe we should throw him out the window and see if he grows wings? Or maybe if his people can catch him," Svet suggested like it was the most normal of things. It was unnerving in every way.
"Release the poor man and stop terrifying him," Sergei said, and they pouted at him, grumbling about how the alpha was no fun.
Still, they injected the man with the antidote, something that the governor hadn’t even realized he needed as much.
Oh, but he was never bringing himself this close to these whack heads again.
The soldiers who had been dropped to the ground had gas masks forced onto their faces, snapping them awake, then handed their weapons like suddenly the Moskowskys were choosing to cooperate.
Then again, the governor had been the one desperate to prove to everyone that he was in power.
Playing power games with the worst bunch of psych patients was bound to not end well for him. Clearly, he was seeing that after so much time had passed.
"We are here to arrest you," the governor coughed, his throat hurting from the punch Rahim had given him.
Again, he would never underestimate anyone in Moskowsky.
Even the janitor at this rate.
"On what charges, Governor?" Katya asked like he hadn’t seen the videos.
He’d watched them alongside Sergei.
He’d seen what they were accusing him of, and honestly, even he knew it looked bad.
He understood how this could end, and while there was the obvious choice of Sergei making it all go away, Katya was determined to make sure the due process was followed.
It was the only reason both empires had stood down.
Mr. Romanov had been ready to grind as many soldiers in his grinder, and Sergei was more than ready to turn everything into a bloodbath.
"It’s been a while since I ripped someone’s heart out of their chest with my bare hand," Sergei had said earlier as if he was talking about the weather.
"Let’s give them a chance," Katya had said instead, lying on the alpha’s lap, pleased with how he’d marked Sergei over and over.
"Are you sure about this, Solnyshka? They might try to pin more on you," Sergei reasoned, and he was right.
Because of the way that Aleksandr had started this, the alpha was not about to give it all up just suddenly. He was determined to see this to the end.
"Let’s try this first. If it doesn’t work, then my Vladimir can belong to the city again, but still come back to me in the evening," Katya said, knowing damn well how things like these went.
He knew that Alek wasn’t going to budge anytime soon and that shit was about to go to hell.
If ever they had to go to war, or if everyone was to take up arms, it wouldn’t be because they didn’t try other alternatives, but because they tried everything and war was the only way out.
"Okay, diplomacy it is then," the alpha had agreed.
Which was why right now, despite the fact that they wanted these men dead for serving Alek’s motives, Sergei was choosing diplomacy.
For Katya Romanov.
"Terrorism, murder, espionage, among other very colorful charges," the governor said, his excitement about this returning like he hadn’t just escaped death moments ago.
Maybe he was insane, but wasn’t he among the masters of insanity, though?
"Okay. We’ll go with you," Katya said, making the governor stare at him like he was bluffing.
"Just like that?" Governor Morozov wondered skeptically.
This was too easy.
Way too easy.
Where was the resistance? Where was the Moskowsky team that everyone was terrified of? Hell, he’d just watched two of these psychos grind a real person without any remorse.
Where the hell were those people?
As if that wasn’t enough, Andre and Svet straightened up, all playfulness gone as they stared at Katya like they were ready.
The governor had never seen such a change in people.
He’d never thought shit like this was even real, but now it was as if the realm itself was playing one sick game with him.
What were the odds, right?
"Yes. Your people have been granted access to whatever they will need to prosecute us if there comes a need," Katya added, and shit, the governor was shocked.
The leader of the soldiers he’d come with seemed more curious, so he asked his teammates, who made the confirmation.
"It’s true, Governor. The other teams are across the floors."
Still, Governor Morozov did not believe this. It felt like he was being lured into some part of a trap, and he didn’t appreciate it.
Then again, what kind of trap was it when everything seemed to be going smoothly?
"You’re not the Moskowsky chairman anymore, Mr. Romanov. I cannot take your word for it," the governor said, and Svet held back a snort at that.
This man was reaching.
He was trying to hope for the impossible and the insane because what kind of shit was even this?
"You’re right. I’m not the chairman," Katya said calmly before turning to Sergei.
"Vladimir... maybe we should go out for lunch since the governor doesn’t want to arrest us," Katya said softly, his voice different from the one he’d been using with the governor.
"Alright. Do you have a location in mind? We can’t go downstairs since the other teams are doing their job. The helipad, perhaps?" Sergei said like there wasn’t a governor in his office trying to make them know that they were under investigation.
But then they knew already, didn’t they?
"Can we guys come along too? It’s been an awful day," Svet chirped exaggeratedly, and Katya stared at her and then at Andre.
"Sure. Maybe we can finally talk about why you guys lied about my first boyfriend shifting cities when you ground him to pieces," Katya said with a smile, and the alphas stared, horrified.
"Nope. We will go with the governor... Right, Governor? Came to arrest us for murder, among other very terrible charges, right?" Andre said, like suddenly this annoying governor wasn’t as bad a person to be dealing with.
Perhaps he had lost his mind, but between Katya and the governor?
They would choose the governor.
Especially today.
"What will it be, Governor? You taking us with you, or should we go for lunch?" Katya asked simply.
Governor Morozov was now convinced he had walked into a psych ward.
Sighing, he looked at the four most wanted people in Frolov waiting for him to decide.
"Fine. Let’s go," the governor gave in, much to the relief of Andre and Svet.
"I’ll give you a quick death when we come after you, Governor. Thank you for saving us," Svet added, relieved.
"This should be fun," Andre mused as they walked out of the building.
