[FROLO]

Sergei was back.

His hair had started growing out; the length was more noticeable than last time. But even so, his hair growing was the only change in the man. He still looked unstable, depressed, and like he was surviving on fumes.

He looked like all he wanted was to breathe, but he didn’t know how to. Not without Katya by his side.

And frankly, it was haunting.

Today’s footage was dated a week ago.

A casual Friday.

A simple interaction between a devil and a therapist.

Save for the fact that the therapist still had a blade lodged in her chest, in a different spot than the previous footage.

The other one had been removed and the wound treated.

The doctor looked like she was struggling to even look up. But she had an oxygen tank hooked on her. She had a tube to help her breathe, and most of her hair was chopped, probably from Sergei’s blades.

The doctor’s neck had a long scar, one that raised more questions than it gave answers. The ear from before was gone, and the doctor had a huge bandage where her ear had once been.

She had bags under her eyes and her body was still shaking. Her eyes were hooded, and her nose was broken. Her hands were not tied today either.

Instead, the one that Sergei had shot at the last time was holding onto her oxygen mask, and the other unshot one, which was on the side where the knife had been lodged in, was holding onto what looked like a pin explosive.

But that couldn’t be possible... Right?

Right???

Gods...

The doctor’s left leg was amputated, and she was in a crop top with a few scars over her abdomen. They were all fresh, and by all accounts, the doctor should have been in an emergency room being cared for properly.

Doctor Belyaeva looked like med students were using her as their practice corpse. Like they were learning anatomy on her, and they were making a thousand and one mistakes.

The right leg that she had left was in a cast, and she was missing three toes.

The doctor looked like she had survived hell and wasn’t sure what the hell was expected of her, especially given how she looked like she was so dosed up on morphine.

She looked terrible.

But Sergei...

The alpha didn’t even bother with a gun today.

Instead, he was holding two tasers.

For a moment, it was hard to understand what they were for, until he used them to wake the doctor up.

The pain was intense, and Doctor Belyaeva tried to scream...

But she didn’t have a tongue and most of the teeth on the lower jaw. Which could explain the cut on her neck... Or was it her throat?

Damn, Sergei.

"Do you remember how we practiced, doctor? If you agree, you nod. If you don’t. You shake your head. And you do it fast because I haven’t slept a wink in weeks... and I think...

"I think I might be seeing things.... If you don’t give me a proper answer, I will be forced to tase you at the point where we just took out your uterus, okay?" Sergei said calmly, his voice soft, like he was understanding of the woman.

He didn’t even look like a predator. In fact, he looked like he felt bad for her, which would have made sense save for the fact that everything that had happened to this woman...

...Was Sergei’s doing.

The doctor nodded fast, ignoring the splitting headache and the pain she was feeling despite being doped up with morphine.

If this doctor wasn’t an alpha wolf, she would have probably died already. But alas, alphas had fast healing abilities, and clearly Belyaeva’s abilities weren’t fast enough to fix her up with what Sergei had done to her.

But she wasn’t complaining... Was she?

Besides, she didn’t even have that many scars on her body, right???

"I went through the court records for your interrogation. Just so they don’t say that I chose to torture you on rumors," Sergei said with a smile.

And the doctor nodded.

"Great... It says here you treated Solnyshka for four years and eleven months and had three hundred and twelve sessions with him."

The doctor... Nodded.

"Three hundred and twelve times, doctor... yet you’re here looking like death when I only gave you one hundred and fifty-six bruises. Exactly half of the number of times you broke my Solnyshka’s heart...

"...do you think maybe I should add the other half so this equalizes? I mean, it doesn’t seem fair to me if you get a free pass just because you look like the moon is about to grab your soul anytime now...

"...No?" Sergei said, and the doctor shook her head, tears falling down her cheeks as she struggled to keep the explosive in her hand steady.

This was not what she had signed up for, and the fact that Sergei was so close to her and still at risk of being blown up by the same explosive told the doctor more than she could even voice now that she didn’t have a tongue.

Sergei had reached a point of no return.

He was hurting so badly he was going crazy without Katya. This was a man who was trying to be okay and who was failing spectacularly because he still had a promise to keep to Katya.

Maybe if Belyaeva had her tongue, she would have tried to explain it to Sergei. But then she had already lost her tongue because she suggested that Katya would die.

That it was a possibility at the hands of the government, and she made it appear as if it was Sergei’s fault.

Sergei didn’t deny his fault; he just didn’t like hearing anyone talk about Katya dying and Sergei never being able to love him and save him.

That would ruin him.

Hence the tongueless doctor.

"Tell me something, doc... Now that you don’t have a uterus and will never bear any children... Does that make you less of an alpha?" Sergei asked in earnest as he read the doctor’s session thirteen notes that mentioned Katya’s greatest fear.

Doctor Belyaeva shook her head desperately.

"Are you sure about that?" Sergei asked softly, almost like he was trying to communicate peace with the doctor.

Doctor Belyaeva nodded.

"But you made my Solnyshka believe that," Sergei said, the disappointment and pain in his eyes something that the doctor had gotten accustomed to.

The doctor shook her head.

"Are you calling me a liar when I’m reading the court notes?" Sergei asked, genuinely offended at the possible insinuation when he had evidence and wasn’t making that shit up.

He couldn’t even make shit like that up in his head.

Because Sergei may have been the devil, but even the devil had limits for some things. Maybe that was what had surprised the therapist in all the sessions she had had with Sergei before today.

Because now...

She had no excuse.

Instead... She shook her head.

And Sergei...

With his two tasers...

Tased the fresh wound on the doctor’s abdomen...

Where the uterus had been taken out.

For five whole minutes.

Sergei counted, of course. He had a timer for it.

The city was still watching the new footage with their jaws on the floor.
