Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 207 - 204: Beast Fighting Arena
Chapter 207: Chapter 204: Beast Fighting Arena
Chen Xing couldn’t bear to look down below.
Just from the crowd’s behavior, she knew it was some kind of fighting ring, like for a boxing match.
’That was wishful thinking.’
"Kill him! Kill him!" the crowd roared.
Chen Xing pushed through the crowd, trying to get to the front, but someone blocked her way.
It was the two guards who had just pushed the man down. "Please present your entry ticket!"
They were in charge here and knew almost everyone.
They felt it was necessary to check this new face.
Chen Xing took a step back and kicked the one who had spoken.
He flew right over the railing and tumbled to the other side.
The other one was still in shock when he suffered the same fate.
The crowd was in a frenzy, and no one paid any attention to what was happening over here.
They just saw someone being thrown in and started cheering excitedly.
But after their cheers died down, they looked and saw—weren’t those the two men in charge?
By then, Chen Xing had already passed through the crowd and reached the railing.
What greeted her eyes?
A pit teeming with zombies and zombie dogs.
And amidst this horde of monsters, a dozen or so people were struggling for their lives.
Chen Xing spotted Carson at a glance, surrounded by a swarm of zombies.
He looked utterly exhausted. His already lean body now seemed like nothing but skin and bones.
But thankfully, he hadn’t been injured by the zombies yet.
And it had only been a little over ten hours since she’d last seen him.
Chen Xing backed away, pulled the little wolf cub from her dimensional space, and threw it into the Beast Fighting Arena.
Though the little wolf cub was still small, its attack power was not weak in the slightest.
The little thing even tried to challenge Meng Hu from time to time, but Meng Hu always just snorted at it in disdain.
The little wolf cub received its master’s command, ran to Carson’s side, and began protecting him while killing the zombies.
At first, Carson thought another monster had appeared. But when he saw the little thing wasn’t attacking him and actually seemed to be helping, he lowered his guard.
Up above, Chen Xing was rather busy.
The crowd started murmuring, ’Why was a little wolf-dog thrown in?’
’What’s that little thing going to do?’
When they saw the little wolf cub wasn’t attacking the people but was specifically hunting zombies, they angrily demanded an explanation.
Chen Xing grabbed two of them from behind and hurled them into the Beast Fighting Arena.
At first, the crowd didn’t know what was happening and cheered happily.
But as more and more people were thrown in, they started looking away from the arena floor.
On the large viewing platform, half the people were gone.
Everyone knew something was wrong.
Chen Xing kicked the door shut and locked it.
’You all like to watch, don’t you?’
’Today, you can watch to your heart’s content!’
Chen Xing grabbed people and threw them down.
Some people fought back, but they were clearly no match for her.
Soon, there were more people below than monsters.
Chen Xing threw down a rope. Carson saw the rope, and then he saw Chen Xing.
He reached out and grabbed the rope, but then immediately let go and ran toward the little wolf cub.
He tied the rope around the little wolf cub. "It saved me... Please, save it first!"
After pulling the little wolf cub back up, Chen Xing immediately stored it away.
When Carson got up, he didn’t see the little wolf cub.
Chen Xing said it had run off. "How did you get caught and brought here?"
"I came out today hoping to trade for some food..." Carson didn’t know if he was lucky or unlucky.
After Chen Xing had left, he’d taken a longsword he found at home, hoping to trade it for some food.
But at the trading post, he saw that the central building was recruiting temporary chefs. They were offering a free lunch and two loaves of bread to take with you when you left.
He decided to try his luck and was unexpectedly hired.
Although he was a basketball star, his hobby was cooking.
Once, he injured his knee during a game and had to rest for several months, so he signed up for a cooking class.
By a happy coincidence, he met a master chef from Huaxia who turned out to be a fan of his. The two became friends, and Carson learned how to cook Chinese cuisine from him.
He was quickly assigned to the restaurant in the central building.
He heard they were hosting distinguished guests for dinner that day and were in urgent need of help, which was why he was given special permission to enter.
After the lunch rush was over, everyone found a place to rest.
Because there was still an evening banquet, he had to stay for a few more hours.
During the break, he looked for a place to rest and entered a storage room.
Behind a pile of junk, there was a small, soft cushion that looked quite comfortable to lie on.
Who knew that not long after he went in, the door opened.
He was about to look up to see if it was one of his coworkers, but before he could peek out, the sound of two people arguing startled him into silence.
"How many times have I told you? These monsters are getting stronger! If we let this continue, it will be extremely dangerous! The entire city could fall!"
"Blake Commander can no longer afford to care about ordinary people. Our city is overpopulated and nearing its breaking point! If we don’t solve this, none of us will have anything to eat! Do you know how much food is wasted keeping these useless people alive?"
"Didn’t you see the data I sent you? These Lizard Monsters are multiplying exponentially, and the first wave of monsters is already evolving. If something triggers or stimulates their development, the consequence will be all of us being wiped out by them, do you understand?"
"You underestimate humanity too much! The zombie outbreak happened, and didn’t we all turn out just fine?"
"But..."
"No buts. Just listen to the Great Commander, and it’ll be good for you..."
Just then, someone outside shouted, "Carson, the head chef is calling for us! Carson..."
The two people who had just been arguing immediately turned their gaze toward the pile of junk.
Carson: "..." ’I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop!’
"Come out..."
"Come out!"
Carson thought that if he didn’t move, maybe they would leave.
But instead, the two of them moved the junk in front of him aside.
And Carson was exposed right before their eyes.
He was captured without any suspense because his superpower wasn’t very strong.
Without even an interrogation, he was taken to the Beast Fighting Arena.
However, he was lucky enough to run into Chen Xing.
"The Lizard Monsters have evolved. They’re slaughtering everyone in the city right now!" Chen Xing warned him.
She really didn’t know if he was lucky or unlucky.
Unlucky, because he almost died in the Beast Fighting Arena.
Lucky, because running into this mess got him delayed here, which in turn saved his life.
As they spoke, they looked down into the Beast Fighting Arena. There were no living people left; they had all turned into zombies.
Due to their sheer numbers, some zombies had already grabbed onto the railings and were desperately clawing their way toward the two of them.
Chen Xing pulled the main door open.
Just then, the door on the opposite side also happened to open.
Flanked by several tall bodyguards in black, a girl in a short qipao immediately caught their eye.
The girl had a mixed-race face, part Asian and part Western, and was exceptionally beautiful.
She held a small black cat in her arms. The cat seemed hostile toward Chen Xing, its fur standing on end.
"There, there, my little treasure. Don’t lower yourself to the level of these ants." The girl’s hand slowly stroked the black cat, the corners of her mouth curling into a slight, contemptuous smile.
It was as if she were the master of all, brimming with arrogance.
