Chapter 316: Chapter 313: Trapped in the Underground Street
At first, Song Yiguo was against Chen Xing leaving the Capital City, especially to hunt Advanced Zombies.
Everyone knew how dangerous the mission would be.
"I think I’ll be leaving soon!" Chen Xing felt it was necessary to be direct with Song Yiguo. "Before I go, I want to help Chen Ming level up his superpower quickly. It would be best if he could reach Level Nine, but Level Eight will do."
"You’re leaving?" Song Yiguo thought he had failed to make her stay. "You can ask for anything. I’ll do it if it’s within my power."
"I was never meant to be here!" Chen Xing couldn’t exactly tell him she had traveled here through a black vortex. "I told you from the beginning that I would leave eventually."
Song Yiguo didn’t quite understand what she meant. "Then where do you belong?"
"Just assume I don’t belong to this world."
Song Yiguo was an intelligent man.
He knew then that Chen Xing truly wouldn’t be staying.
In that case, he really did need a high-level Healing Ability User.
And so, he agreed to Chen Xing’s request.
It was early morning, and the small county town was silent, save for the sound of their footsteps.
"We should split up to save time," Chen Xing suggested as they entered the town.
’It’s easier for me to take them out on my own,’ she thought, ’and I can kill more that way.’
Before Vice General Du had left the Capital City, Song Yiguo had given him specific orders to protect her. "It’s too dangerous for you to be alone..."
"I have an automatic defense. I won’t be in any danger! I also have a walkie-talkie. If I’m in trouble, I’ll call for help!" Chen Xing said, giving the walkie-talkie in her hand a little shake.
Seeing her insistence, Vice General Du had no choice but to compromise. "Then you have to promise me you won’t go too far."
Chen Xing agreed. "I’ll take East City. You guys can split the remaining areas!" With that, she ran off toward East City.
The wreckage outside East City was blanketed by the previous night’s heavy snow. Only the shattered windows and decaying gates spoke of the apocalypse.
Seeing that no one was around, Chen Xing released the Little Black Cats from her Jiezhi Space.
Once released, the Little Black Cats scattered to find hordes of zombies.
Chen Xing didn’t stay idle. She found a shopping mall that looked like it had an underground level and went inside.
’Zombies like dark places,’ she reasoned. ’The underground levels are their best bet.’
The small town didn’t have a subway, so there weren’t many places for them to hide.
She had barely been inside for a moment when a Little Black Cat sent her a report.
She had to abandon her search there and ran toward the location the Little Black Cat had indicated.
It was an underground parking garage for a residential complex just across the street.
Down below, there were probably several hundred zombies.
’Not a problem,’ Chen Xing thought.
So she summoned a dozen or so of the Little Black Cats from nearby.
Just as she was preparing to begin the slaughter, the normally stupefied zombies suddenly stirred as if awakened by some command, surging toward the exit together.
Chen Xing, who was standing at the entrance, expected to become their target. But who would have thought—it was as if they couldn’t even see her.
No... it was more like they were in a frantic hurry to get out.
At that exact moment, a distress call crackled through the walkie-talkie: "A large horde of zombies has suddenly appeared in South City! Requesting backup!"
Chen Xing immediately unleashed a bolt of electricity, striking the twenty or so zombies at the very front. The Little Black Cats had already charged into the horde and begun their attack.
After unleashing a few more bolts of electricity and felling another wave of zombies, Chen Xing sprinted out of the underground garage and bolted toward South City.
On her way, she gave the Little Black Cats one last order: wipe out all the remaining zombies.
She used her speed superpower, pushing herself to go as fast as she possibly could.
In just a few minutes, she had made it from East City to South City.
The once-desolate street was now stained with blood, and... the Superpower Users who had called for help were nowhere to be found.
’As long as there are no bodies, there’s still hope!’
Moving quickly, Chen Xing raised her walkie-talkie. "Where are you?"
After a burst of static, the slightly desperate voice of a Superpower User came through. "We’ve been forced back by the horde into the underground mall beneath the central city plaza... Captain, we can’t hold on much longer!" It sounded like a farewell.
Chen Xing didn’t have time to think. She immediately broke into a run toward the city center.
She had never moved this fast before.
The buildings beside her blurred into streaks. She could even hear the frigid wind howling past her ears.
Five minutes later, she saw a massive public square.
She also saw waves of zombies converging from all directions, flooding into the underground entrance.
She had plenty of bombs in her Jiezhi Space, left there by nightingale.
But... she didn’t dare use them now, for fear of harming the Superpower Users trapped inside.
Chen Xing immediately turned invisible and plowed through the zombies, forcing her way into the underground mall.
The underground promenade wasn’t wide, and it was lined with numerous shops on both sides.
One could only imagine the desperate situation of the Superpower Users who had been forced down here.
Soon, Chen Xing heard the sounds of a battle.
The Superpower Users trapped inside hadn’t given up.
"Captain, we’re finished!" a despairing voice cried out from nearby.
Chen Xing looked toward the sound and saw about twenty Superpower Users trapped inside a small storefront.
They were using their superpowers in unison to fend off the attackers, but all of them were injured to varying degrees.
But... at least they were all still alive.
Seizing the moment while she was still unnoticed, Chen Xing revealed herself. She unleashed bolts of electricity as she sped to the front of the Superpower Team.
A few more electrical discharges cleared a space in front of the Superpower Team.
"Xing Yue... How did you get in here?" The Superpower Users were stunned that she would brave such danger to rescue them.
Their rekindled hope flared into fighting spirit, and they began to fight back against the zombies.
Chen Xing knew their superpowers would soon be depleted. "These are from the ones I just killed. Take a moment and replenish your energy!"
As she spoke, she tossed her tote bag over to them.
’I’d stored these in my space just in case,’ she thought. ’I didn’t think I’d actually need them.’
Without a moment to worry about whether the items were clean, half the Superpower Users continued to fight while the other half began to replenish their superpowers.
Just then, Vice General Du’s voice came over the walkie-talkie. "We’re above the underground mall at the plaza. There are still a lot of zombies heading down. What’s your situation?"
"Reporting to Vice General Du! Xing Yue has rescued us, and we’re trying to find a way out!"
"The exits are blocked. There are too many zombies. I don’t think you’ll get out easily." Vice General Du’s voice was calm, but only he knew how worried he truly was.
’Worrying about my men is one thing,’ he thought, ’but I never imagined Xing Yue would be in there too.’
Now, they had to rescue them, even if it meant risking the lives of his entire team.
"We’ll hold Entrance One and stop any more zombies from getting in. Then we’ll send people in to try and clear a path!" Vice General Du had already scouted the entrances; there were six in total.
But... before his men could even act on his words, another massive wave of zombies swarmed the perimeter.
These zombies didn’t pour into the underground mall like the others. Instead, they formed a tightening circle, trapping Vice General Du’s hundred-plus men completely.
The horde was so immense that from Vice General Du’s position, he couldn’t even see its outer edge.
