Chapter 317: Chapter 314: Leaving

These zombies moved like an organized army, gathering from all directions with terrifying discipline.

To make matters worse, as if they knew his plan, they completely cut off his squad from Exit One of the underground street.

Something was definitely controlling these zombies!

Vice General Du grabbed his walkie-talkie. "We’re trapped in the square! We can’t provide assistance for now!" After the brief message, he scanned the zombie horde.

’There must be a Spiritual Zombie controlling the situation,’ he thought.

But with this many zombies, how could he possibly find a single Spiritual Zombie?

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning fell from the sky, nearly striking his hand and knocking the walkie-talkie from his grasp.

It was impossible to retrieve it.

Another blast of lightning and fire obliterated the fallen device.

Vice General Du’s heart leaped in shock.

Meanwhile, Chen Xing had already sensed the Spiritual Zombie.

It was a higher level than the Advanced Zombie that had attacked the National Capital Safety Zone previously—a Level Eight Spiritual Zombie.

Chen Xing didn’t dare to be careless.

Her own Spiritual Ability was also Level Eight, putting them on equal footing.

’This won’t be an easy fight.’

She glanced back. The Superpower Users had mostly recovered their energy. "We have to rely on ourselves to get out of here!"

Without giving them another moment to think, she unleashed a current of electricity and charged toward the nearest exit.

At the same time, her Little Black Cats had already received their orders. They reached the outskirts of the square and began their hunt from the perimeter.

’I’m being forced into this,’ she thought. ’I don’t want to expose the Little Black Cats, but... these people are only here because of me.’

’I have to protect Vice General Du and his men and get them back to the Capital City safely.’

’Even if... my space is exposed.’

To avoid revealing the Little Black Cats, she had positioned them on the perimeter.

Seeing her charge forward, the other Superpower Users followed suit.

They knew hesitation meant death.

Chen Xing’s electrical energy drained with every attack, and she could feel it was about to run out.

As a precaution, she stopped using her electrical current and switched to another superpower.

She raised her hand, and a wall of iron materialized above the zombies’ heads.

But it wasn’t meant for crushing them.

The iron wall was as thin as a razor blade. At Chen Xing’s command, it dipped down to topple a few zombies before rising and sweeping sideways, shearing horizontally through the zombies’ heads.

In one motion, any zombie tall enough in the front row was decapitated.

The Superpower Users watched, dumbfounded.

When the wall reached the exit, it was too wide to fit. With another mental command, it morphed into a long, narrow blade and carved a path up the stairs.

The Superpower Users didn’t have to worry about what was in front of them at all; they just had to deal with the zombies pursuing them from behind.

Soon, they emerged onto the square.

Just when they thought there was hope, they were met with a seemingly endless sea of zombies.

"Find a way to rendezvous with Vice General Du!" Chen Xing shouted, then vanished like a puff of smoke.

She moved so fast that zombies in a straight line were simply knocked aside by her passage.

Chen Xing was hunting the Spiritual Zombie.

The moment she burst out, she sensed its location.

But when she got there, she discovered the creature was cunning; it had already hidden itself within the horde.

Without using its spiritual power, it was indistinguishable from a normal zombie, making it incredibly hard to track.

Unable to find the leader, Chen Xing could only turn her attention to the regular zombies.

She summoned the sheet of steel again, sending it slicing horizontally through the horde.

Just as her superpower sent the iron plate scything into the distance, a sudden cold gust of wind rushed toward her.

Less than a meter away, the gust was abruptly blocked.

The wind carried a dangerous aura. Her body’s Defense System activated automatically, blocking the threat.

From within her protective shield, Chen Xing had already unleashed a blast of electricity.

The Spiritual Zombie, along with several others nearby, was knocked to the ground.

She was stunned.

’I can’t believe a zombie can awaken two superpowers.’

This Spiritual Zombie also possessed a speed-type superpower.

’If it weren’t for my shield, I could have easily been injured.’

The Spiritual Zombie seemed to realize its peril. It leaped up, about to disappear back into the horde.

Chen Xing suddenly reached out her hand toward it and clenched her fist.

The zombie collapsed in agony, its scarlet eyes staring at Chen Xing in disbelief.

In that instant, she felt its two superpowers transfer to her.

To her delight, when the zombie’s superpowers entered her body, there were no adverse effects. They merged perfectly with her own abilities.

Her Spiritual Ability instantly advanced to Level Nine.

Without the Spiritual Zombie’s leadership, the horde quickly descended into chaos.

Taking advantage of the fact that Vice General Du and his men weren’t nearby, Chen Xing and her Little Black Cats began to slaughter the zombies in every direction.

By the time she recalled her Little Black Cats and rejoined Vice General Du’s squad, their superpowers were almost completely depleted.

If it weren’t for the conventional weapons they carried, they would have been dead long ago.

Chen Xing scanned the horde. Only a few thousand zombies remained.

’Delaying the rescue for this small number of zombies isn’t worth it.’

She immediately led the survivors onto the vehicles and headed back to the safety zone.

Ever since she recovered all her jewelry, Chen Xing’s superpowers never truly ran out.

However, to avoid arousing too much suspicion, she only healed a dozen or so Superpower Users at a time.

Their team had started with two hundred people, and almost everyone had been scratched by zombies.

So... while Chen Ming and the others were busy treating people, she pretended to have replenished her energy and healed another dozen Superpower Users.

After repeating this process a few times, all the injured Superpower Users were cured.

After absorbing several hundred Advanced Crystal Cores, Chen Ming leveled up to Level Eight.

Chen Xing didn’t let him stop, telling him to keep absorbing.

Her original plan was to leave in three days.

’If I go out a few more times over the next few days, I can probably get Chen Ming to Level Nine.’

"The zombies these days are getting smarter. I think it’s safer for me to go out alone. You know my Defense Ability—its protective range isn’t very large. Bringing too many people would just be a burden," Chen Xing said, trying her best to persuade Song Yiguo.

In the end, he had to compromise.

She took Vice General Du and one hundred Superpower Users to a city, where they would remain outside as backup without entering.

That evening, Chen Xing went to another small county town, one rumored to have tens of thousands of zombies.

While Vice General Du and the others waited outside, she went in.

By noon, Chen Xing called Vice General Du in to collect the Crystal Cores.

Having already witnessed her use the steel plate to slaughter zombies in droves, they were no longer surprised.

After three days, they had collected over a hundred thousand Crystal Cores.

This was more than enough to ensure Chen Ming’s upgrade.

That evening, she had dinner with Song Yiguo, a sort of farewell.

He may have become a darker person, but only toward his enemies. When it came to ordinary citizens, he was still a responsible leader.

The word "goodbye" was never spoken, but Song Yiguo knew she was leaving. "If you have any wishes, or if there’s anything you need, just tell me." He wanted to do everything he possibly could for her.

Chen Xing just smiled without saying a word.

After dinner, she led Vice General Du’s team out of the National Capital Safety Zone.

They stopped at a small county where she collected one last batch of Crystal Cores, which she then handed to Vice General Du. "Until we meet again!"
