Chapter 333: Chapter 331: Horror Town

Chen Xing didn’t care what Song Yiguo’s true intentions were for helping her.

Theirs was a relationship of mutual convenience from the start.

All that mattered was that he didn’t turn on her when it counted.

"They’re after the emerald earrings I’m wearing!" Chen Xing confessed.

One look at the greed-crazed people outside, and she knew her secret was out.

It was only a matter of time before Song Yiguo found out anyway.

It was better to just tell him directly. That way, it would seem like she was being sincere.

Song Yiguo looked at Chen Xing in surprise.

Chen Xing explained how she had disguised herself as a middle-aged woman to go to the auction and had snatched Cadar’s earrings. "If she hadn’t tried to kill me over and over, I never would have thought of killing her and taking the earrings. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise!" ’I have to come up with some excuse.’

’I can’t just say I wanted them because I have other Green Gemstone Jewelry.’

Song Yiguo was speechless. He hadn’t personally gone to the auction back then.

"What’s so special about an earring that they’d chase you all the way here?"

Chen Xing didn’t explain. She simply held out her hand.

A black vortex appeared in front of Song Yiguo.

It was a sight they were all familiar with.

Cadar had never hidden her power and had used it everywhere. There were even videos of it online.

"So that’s why Luo Gen drugged you?" Song Yiguo was curious and eager to see the earring.

Chen Xing wasn’t stingy. She placed the earring in her palm for him to see.

This was also a test for him.

If Song Yiguo couldn’t resist the temptation, it was only a matter of time before he’d try to take it. It would be better to deal with him right here and now.

"May I touch it?" Song Yiguo asked instead of just reaching for it.

He was just so curious how such a tiny object could be so magical.

Chen Xing glanced at him and nodded. "But it probably won’t do anything for you. It has already bonded with its owner."

She was confident about that much, at least.

The jewelry had gone through several upgrades while she wore it, and now it was bound to her.

Especially with her spatial ability as the primary power, the other pieces of jewelry wouldn’t work for a while after leaving her body.

Song Yiguo picked it up carefully, but even after a while, he felt nothing.

Disappointed, he placed it back in Chen Xing’s palm. "Just as you said. I can’t feel a thing!"

He figured the rumors had blown it all out of proportion.

Some things were like that—not really magical at all, but the rumors made them sound legendary.

Though Chen Xing’s face remained calm, her heart was secretly pounding.

Frankly, having cooperated with Song Yiguo for so long, she would have been reluctant to fight him.

Vice General Du and the other Superpower Users had also been sweating bullets.

It wasn’t that they didn’t trust Song Yiguo, but they had seen with their own eyes just how incredible the item was.

If Song Yiguo had lost control for even a moment, he and Chen Xing would have surely come to blows.

They didn’t want to fight Chen Xing. Not at all.

"We’re surrounded. Do we fight our way out, or...?" Vice General Du quickly changed the subject.

As for hiding, there was probably nowhere to go.

The area was too small; they would be found quickly.

"Why aren’t they coming in?" Chen Xing had been watching for a while.

The people outside seemed anxious, but... they showed no intention of entering.

In fact, they hadn’t even entered the town’s perimeter, remaining just outside.

Now that she mentioned it, Song Yiguo noticed it too.

They had no intention of entering at all. Instead, they were each finding positions to stand guard.

It was as if there was something terrifying inside the town.

’They can’t be afraid of me, can they?’

’That doesn’t make any sense!’

If they were afraid of her, they wouldn’t have chased her here in the first place.

"They seem to be afraid of something," Chen Xing pointed out.

She glanced up at the ceiling.

’Could there be something terrifying in this town that’s keeping them at bay?’

"I’ll go check it out!" With that, Chen Xing opened the door and went outside.

Song Yiguo didn’t try to stop her.

With her abilities, her safety wasn’t an issue, and no one else could have tested the situation anyway.

After leaving, Chen Xing didn’t immediately reveal their location. She passed two houses before revealing herself on a downward slope.

The groups outside the town grew agitated the moment they saw Chen Xing.

Some readied their guns and ammunition, others prepared their superpowers, and some even aimed cannons at her—but not a single person stepped inside.

Their eyes were red with greed as they stared at her. After testing the town’s border countless times, they ultimately refused to set foot inside.

Chen Xing was sure her guess was right. They were afraid of something, and that’s why they wouldn’t enter.

So, she stopped loitering around. She found a hidden spot, turned invisible, and headed toward the perimeter.

She wanted to hear just what it was they were so afraid of.

She drifted past three different groups before she finally overheard a scrap of information.

Apparently, no one who entered this town ever came out alive. It was known as the Town of Death.

Chen Xing scoffed.

’Didn’t I just go out? And didn’t I just come back out again?’

’It must be a rumor spread by the people from before to scare everyone off!’

’Outsiders wouldn’t know they were using a small poodle to drug people.’

’Since they’re so scared, I’ll just let them stand guard outside.’

’The town isn’t fully surrounded anyway. We can get out from anywhere!’

And so, Chen Xing stopped listening to their chatter and went back into the town.

Since the men outside didn’t dare enter, she wasn’t worried. She walked slowly back toward the house where Song Yiguo and the others were waiting.

But... just as her gaze fell upon the window, she saw something flash.

It was so fast she couldn’t register what it was.

’Are my eyes playing tricks on me?’

’No, something’s wrong!’

The moment she sensed something was wrong, Chen Xing was inside the living room of Song Yiguo’s safe house in the blink of an eye.

But... in the spacious living room, all two hundred-plus people had vanished.

’Song Yiguo and the others had their superpowers back. How could any person or monster capture all of them?’

’And without a single sound or a single trace left behind.’

She immediately ran upstairs.

The bodies on the second floor were still where they had been, showing no signs of entry.

She checked the three rooms inside with incredible speed but found nothing.

She then raced back down the stairs and checked the basement.

The basement was the same—no trace of anyone having entered or exited.

Her mind blank, Chen Xing released Meng Hu and her Little Black Cats, then ran out of the house and began to search the town.

Although she was worried about her pets’ safety...

...right now, they were her only hope of quickly finding Song Yiguo’s team.

Besides, if anything happened to them, she would sense it immediately.

As Chen Xing was searching the house next door, one of the Little Black Cats suddenly sent her a message, and then the connection was severed.

The transmission was incredibly brief, but Chen Xing still managed to get its location.

It came from the very house where Song Yiguo had disappeared.

She immediately rushed back.

The Little Black Cat was gone.

She searched the house inside and out once more, meticulously, but still found no clues.

Just then, another Little Black Cat sent a message before it, too, went silent.
