Chapter 1600: Chapter 185: The Formless Qi Sword Slays the Demon’s Head (Part 2)
Zhang Yan at this time had already seen that Zhu Bogao was well-prepared and could handle all his divine passage skills with ease. Evidently, this was not something that could be achieved in just three months. It was clear that he had long been preparing to confront him.
However, having broken the Golden Spear Formation, which served as a dwelling for him, and given that Zhu Bogao was not skilled in escape skills, his prior advantages had vanished.
Yet, Zhu Bogao did not see it that way. He believed that, by this point, he had tested all of Zhang Yan’s abilities and had nothing left to fear. So he looked up and said, "True Master Zhang, I know your divine skills are formidable, but this time you may not necessarily be able to defeat me. Why not consider a draw? I can swear that my Yu Yuan Tribe, with its million members, will not step into the East Splendor Continent for the next hundred years!"
He had thought over this proposal several times already. Zhang Yan was the leader of the Ten Disciples of the Mingcang Sect, so even if their battle ended in a draw, it would still affect his reputation. The Demon Sect would certainly not care about him not entering East Splendor, allowing him a chance to retreat unharmed.
Zhang Yan looked down and smiled gently, saying, "Why speak such words, Demon King? I was just testing my skills earlier. Does Your Excellency really think I have exhausted my means?"
Just as he finished speaking, he stomped his foot, and with a thunderous roar, a thousand-zhang water light rose behind him like a rising tide, growing higher and higher. In no time, it covered the sky and earth, and then came crashing down violently.
As soon as this Water Element True Light was unleashed, it was as if oceans were tilting and seas overturning, the momentum seemingly on par with the previous Purple Cloud Divine Thunder Net. Zhu Bogao, watching the water flow that seemed to flood his entire visibility, was greatly alarmed. He shook the Fu Bo Golden Silk in his hand, intending to collect it like the Heavy Water earlier, but there was simply too much water light, and it surged one wave after another, making it impossible to collect in time.
And as the water light spread upward, a suction force emerged, seemingly trying to drag him into it. Hastily, he activated his Mysterious Skill to stabilize his body amidst the tumultuous sea, then swung his head back, drawing his long beard to prevent Zhang Yan from displaying his art.
Zhang Yan chuckled lightly. Without moving his body, a Shell Leaf suddenly flew out from his acupoint, suspended above him, and a curtain of golden light cascaded down, enveloping him completely.
The long beard came whipping, accompanied by a series of explosive pops, merely causing the golden light to sway but failing to break through.
Zhu Bogao was still unwilling to give up. Raising a longbow, he shot over ten arrows in quick succession, but the arrow light was swiftly engulfed by the waves before traveling far, unable to approach Zhang Yan at all.
His expression was slightly flustered. Though he still had means to deploy, he was unable to exhibit them within the water torrent. Moreover, having missed an attack, he now had no opportunity to reverse the situation.
"The only plan now is to take a risk."
Having decided, he drew out a red long silk from his sleeve and wrapped it around himself, transforming into a streak of Rainbow Light, intending to first escape this water light and then seek an opportunity.
Zhang Yan shrugged his shoulders, retracting the sky-covering water light, and pursued with a tunneling light, maintaining a distant chase without getting too close.
He was not afraid of the other escaping. Qi Dao cultivators have mana much more enduring than Power Dao practitioners. If he refused to stop, the one to first deplete their mana would surely be the opponent.
After a moment of flight, Zhu Bogao’s tunneling speed became increasingly sluggish, seemingly lacking strength to go on, allowing the distance between them to narrow considerably.
Once they were within a thousand zhang, he suddenly shook his body, a Spirit Light flashed within the tunneling light, revealing his true form as a ten-zhang long white carp. With a flick of his dorsal fin, he leapt into the void as though diving into a river, suddenly disappearing from sight.
The next moment, the white carp unexpectedly appeared a hundred zhang above Zhang Yan, instantly transforming back into human form. Then, with a wave of his long whiskers, he released a mystical radiance, immobilizing the surrounding spiritual mechanisms, preventing any movement out, before seizing his divine weapon and bellowing, slamming it downwards fiercely!
But just at this moment, a flash before his eyes, a hundred sword lights flew straight at him.
Zhu Bogao snorted, pushing his Mysterious Skills to the limit. He knew well that while these flying swords were formidable, they were unlikely to kill him, so he prepared to endure them while intending to strike Zhang Yan even just once, which would be enough to take his life.
Yet, as the sword lights flew, they didn’t attack his body. Instead, they rotated in place, enveloping him in a dazzling brilliance.
Zhang Yan watched with detachment. His "Divine Light One Qi Sword Formation" was exceedingly swift to activate. Once one was within a hundred zhang, it could swiftly trap the opponent. It was only that he had yet to face an opponent with this formation. Had the Golden Spear Formation still been in place, contending formation against formation, it might not have been broken. Now that the opponent had rushed in voluntarily, it was the perfect time to activate it.
Zhu Bogao only felt his vision blur, finding himself trapped within a resplendent swirling sword formation. Sword lights dashed to and fro, slicing towards him. He realized he had been outmaneuvered and, with no time for regret, hastily drew upon all his mana, wielding his divine weapon and whiskers to fend off the rain-like sword lights.
Zhang Yan intended to test the true power of this formation. After observing for a while, he raised a finger, drawing out the Array Energy, merging it with a Sword Qi, prompting his mana. A soft hum followed, and a streak of Rainbow Light soared, slicing through the divine weapon whiskers unimpeded. With a puff, a head had already rolled off.
However, though Zhu Bogao’s head had fallen, his body remained upright. After a breath, from his neck erupted a plume of black smoke, expanding and contracting. Once dissipated, a new head grew out.
Zhang Yan sneered coldly, "Let’s see how many times you can regenerate."
He executed the spell again, striking with a sword light. Though the head was sliced off, it regrew in a blink. After dozens of cycles, Zhu Bogao’s mana was nearly depleted, unable to withstand further attacks, he pleaded, "True Master, spare me. This little demon is willing to surrender."
Unmoved, Zhang Yan persisted in unleashing the sword light. Over ten more times later, the head was severed again, but this time no black smoke emerged. Instead, a burst of blood light appeared. After blood gushed out vigorously, the divine weapon slipped from hand, and the headless body toppled forward, plummeting from the clouds.
