Chapter 1601: Chapter 186: One-Breath Yang Restoration Life Technique

After that headless body fell, seemingly because of the Daoist robe upon it, it only dropped a few zhang before its momentum stopped, drifting in midair.

Zhang Yan’s gaze flickered slightly; with a light lift of his hand, he sent the sword light within the array up to grind against it, and churned it into a mass of mangled flesh. Yet after doing this, he did not withdraw the Sword Array, but swept his eyes downward.

There were still several dozen severed heads there, each one preternaturally solid. Though they were being hacked back and forth by the Array Energy from the swords, there rang out the sound of clashing metal, and they did not suffer the slightest damage.

After watching for a while, he said with a faint sneer, "The Divine Skills of All Demon Kings are indeed uncommon. However, since you are trapped within my Sword Array, you can forget about ever escaping again."

As he spoke, one of the heads suddenly trembled, and from the severed neck sprayed out a great billow of black smoke. In but a moment it dispersed, and the body below had regrown itself.

Zhu Bogao fixed his expression on Zhang Yan and said, "I ask myself that I did not reveal a flaw. How did you see through it?"

Just as a Qi Dao Practitioner, upon Cultivating to the Nascent Soul Third Realm, will grasp Forbidden Locking Heaven and Earth, so too will a Power Dao Practitioner, upon reaching the Fourth Transition Perfection Realm, naturally comprehend a certain Divine Skill. Because the Cultivation Techniques and lineages of each house differ, what they obtain is likewise not the same.

What he had comprehended was called the "One Breath Group Yang Skill". If, when battling an enemy, he was defeated, then so long as even a fragment of his remains existed, and so long as his Primordial Spirit did not scatter, within an hour he could cause his body to grow anew.

To deceive Zhang Yan, he had even used a Dharma Treasure of the Demon Sect to feign the dispersal of his Primordial Spirit, intending that once Zhang Yan withdrew the Sword Array, he could escape, then turn back later. He had not thought it would be exposed on the spot.

Zhang Yan gave a faint smile and said, "Demon King, that pair of Jade Whiskers of yours has clearly been steeped in Essence Blood. Thus, each time a head is severed, the whiskers immediately lose their luster. Yet among them there happened to be one head that could keep both whiskers’ spiritual mechanism intact—this was altogether too conspicuous."

Zhu Bogao was silent for a long time, then sighed and said, "In this battle the True Master has indeed prevailed. I, Zhu, bow my head and concede defeat."

He prostrated himself upon the ground and knocked his head, saying, "Only, at the moment of my death, I wish to implore one thing of the True Master. I beg your esteemed sect to raise its noble hand and spare my tribe."

Zhang Yan pondered briefly, then said in a deep voice, "If the Yu Yuan Tribe abides by the terms of the Challenge Letter between you and me, and sincerely submits, I will not hold them to account. Only, there are several matters I wish to ask the Demon King; I hope you will answer truthfully."

Zhu Bogao, hearing that there was hope of preserving the tribes’ lives, hastily said, "Let the True Master ask as he will."

Zhang Yan’s gaze turned slightly cold as he said, "I ask you, Demon King: when you gathered a million strong at the Two Continent Mountain Border, was it with the aid of the Demon Sect?"

Zhu Bogao admitted, "It was indeed so. Over a hundred years ago, several from the Demon Sect came seeking me out, wanting me to lead my tribes to raid East Splendor when the Demon Cave emerged into the world. To speak frankly to the True Master, I have a son within the Blood Essence Sect; in name, he is engaged in Cultivation, but in truth he is a hostage."

He knew this matter could not be concealed. The Mingcang Sect did not lack for Soul Searching Techniques; they could easily seize his Primordial Spirit and bring it back for interrogation. Rather than suffer torment, it was better to speak plainly. Moreover, for the lives of the tribes, he had no choice.

Zhang Yan then asked several more questions, which the man all answered faithfully. When there was nothing further to inquire, Zhang Yan formed a spell with his fingers, intending to activate the Sword Array and put an end to him.

But Zhu Bogao suddenly stretched out a hand and said, "Wait. There is no need to trouble True Master Zhang to act."

He brought both hands up to the two Jade Whiskers at his lips, grunted once, and tore them off. Kneeling upon the ground, he held them up with both hands and said, "I have refined eight hundred years of Essence Blood into these. I am confident that ordinary Dharma Treasures will find them hard to ward off; they are of some use. Now I gift them to the True Master, only hoping that you will not forget the promise you made before."

Zhang Yan thought briefly, then raised his hand and drew those long whiskers over. Without examining them much, he stowed them directly into his Sleeve Bag, nodding as he said, "I have accepted them. Demon King, go on your way in peace."

Once those two whiskers were gone, Zhu Bogao’s expression at once became listless, his countenance withered. He sat down cross-legged and took a sharp awl from his pouch, gazed at it for a moment, then suddenly raised it and thrust it into his crown. His body gave a sudden shudder, the light faded from his eyes, his head drooped to his chest, and then a wisp of Primordial Spirit drifted out.

Zhang Yan swept his sleeve, and innumerable sword lights flashed by, shredding it to pieces in an instant.

In former times, this Primordial Spirit would have been let go to reincarnate. Yet Zhu Bogao had crossed arms with him head-on and had witnessed his methods; if he were allowed to escape, it would be hard to avoid the Demon Sect Practitioners learning the details of this battle. Thus, he had to be utterly annihilated.

With a light wave of his hand, Zhang Yan collected the Sleeve Bag the man had left behind. He flipped through it and soon found the Yu Yuan Tribe Demon King Seal. He unconsciously nodded, and without looking at the other items within, put it away. Then he withdrew the Sword Array, leapt lightly, and a strand of tunneling light broke through the Gang Cloud as he descended. In little time he had arrived before Shousui Mountain.
