Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Prepare for the Worst

The once incomparably valiant Golden Lions were suddenly beaten into a steady retreat.

Jin Yi stared at the two fallen Yellow Rank Males at his feet, his golden eyes filled with shock and grief.

"Young Clan Leader, fall back! They have too many Yellow Rank Males..."

’Such a one-sided battle must mean their High Rank Males outnumber ours.’

"I cannot retreat!"

If he took even one step back, the front line would lose a High Rank Male, and even more of them would fall.

"Come here! Carry them back for treatment."

A Beastman immediately rushed forward. Ignoring the blood covering his own body, he quickly carried the fallen male away.

Watching the Bear Clan Beastmen surround him, Jin Yi opened his beastly maw and unleashed his Talent Power.

ROAR—

The Talent Power blasted out, sending the male at the very front flying.

But the males charging in behind him only faltered for a moment before continuing their steady advance.

Realizing that the Young Clan Leader was the target, nearby Golden Lion Beastmen all rushed over to protect Jin Yi.

The fighting erupted instantly.

Blood splattered everywhere. Severed limbs littered the ground, and it was impossible to tell if they belonged to the Bear Clan or the Golden Lion Clan.

Jin Yi was struck by several bursts of Talent Power. A knot formed in his throat, and he spat out a large mouthful of blood.

"Quickly, kill him!"

The Bear Clan Leader glared at the culprit who had killed his son, grinding his teeth with such hatred that he wished he could dismember the man himself.

In the chaos of the battle, the Golden Lions’ numbers continued to dwindle. Ten High Rank Bear Clan Males had now reached Jin Yi.

A desperate resolve shone in Jin Yi’s golden eyes. ’I may die,’ he thought, ’but I’ll take these Bear Clan Beastmen with me!’

The Talent Power around his body began to swirl like a vortex.

And the ten High Rank Males were upon him.

At that critical moment, a figure shot in front of Jin Yi, whisking him away from the front line with extreme speed.

By the time Jin Yi came to his senses, his Father Beast had already carried him away from the most dangerous spot.

"Jin Yi, you are the future hope of the Golden Lion Tribe. Nothing can happen to you."

Jin Cang gripped his hand tightly. "You’re coming back to the city with me."

"Father Beast, I can’t. The Bear Clan has more High Rank Beastmen than we realized."

"Yes, I know. Just come with me first..."

Before he could finish, Jin Cang staggered. If Jin Yi hadn’t reacted quickly and caught him, he would have collapsed.

Jin Yi’s hand came away wet and warm. He looked down, and his pupils contracted in horror.

"Father Beast, you..." Jin Yi’s voice cracked.

He saw the huge patch of flesh torn from his Father Beast’s back, blood pouring out ceaselessly.

He scooped up his Father Beast and sprinted toward the tribe’s encampment.

"Jin Yi, you’ve grown up. I am so proud. I believe you will become an outstanding Clan Leader and lead the Golden Lion Tribe to glory."

After that long speech, Jin Cang seemed to exhaust his strength, and his head lolled limply to one side.

Jin Yi ran faster, his voice trembling. "Father Beast, don’t speak. You have to hold on! The Clan Witch will treat you as soon as we get there."

Jin Cang knew how severe his wounds were. Even under normal circumstances, he might not have survived an injury like this.

’Besides,’ he thought, ’with so many of our people injured, the chance for treatment should go to those with a better chance of survival.’

"COUGH... COUGH... Listen to me, Jin Yi. From what I’ve seen, the Bear Clan has nearly twice as many Yellow Rank Beastmen as we do. If we keep fighting like this, even more of the Golden Lion Tribe will die or be wounded."

Jin Yi pulled out the ointment he had left and quickly smeared it on his father’s back.

But even after using up all the ointment, only half the wound was covered. Blood still gushed from the untreated area.

Jin Yi’s face was pale. "Don’t talk anymore. Let the Clan Witch treat you first."

Jin Cang gasped for breath, shaking his head. "If I don’t say this now, I’m afraid it will be too late. The Bear Clan came prepared. They deliberately concealed their true strength, cut off our food supplies to wound our foundation, and attacked during the snow season when we are weakest. They hold every advantage..."

"Jin Yi, we can’t win this fight! You must take our people and escape through the mountains behind the encampment. I’ll buy you some time."

At this, he gripped Jin Yi’s hand tightly. "Bai Wanwan is the Holy Female. She is our clan’s hope. I hope you will seriously consider becoming her mate. But if you’re truly unwilling... then... I won’t force you."

After saying all this, he went completely limp.

By then, Jin Yi had already carried him into the front-line Witch Cave.

The Clan Witch was inside, treating the wounded Beastmen. When she saw Jin Cang Clan Leader being brought in, the old witch’s eyes grew red. "Clan Leader, how did you get wounded so badly?"

Jin Cang actually managed a laugh. "Don’t cry. I’m fine. Just put some medicine on me, and I’ll rest a bit."

Jin Yi set him down and turned to leave. Seeing this, Jin Cang called out urgently, "Jin Yi, remember my words! Live, take our people and leave! As long as you do, there is still hope for the Golden Lion Clan."

Jin Yi paused. Then, he launched himself forward on all fours, racing toward Bai Wanwan’s home.

Bai Wanwan was feeling restless and uneasy when her door was suddenly thrown open from the outside.

Jin Yi stood there, his hair flecked with snow, his anxious gaze fixed on her.

"Bai Wanwan, can I ask a favor of you?"

From the look on his face, Bai Wanwan knew the situation outside must be terrible.

She already felt indebted to the Clan Leader and his son, so she nodded without hesitation. "Young Clan Leader, just tell me what you need. If I can help, I will."

Jin Yi’s lips trembled slightly before he finally managed to state his purpose.

"The ointment you used on me when I was injured last time... do you have any more?"

"I do, but I only have one vial left."

Jin Yi breathed a sigh of relief. "Can I have it? Whatever you ask of me in the future, I will agree to it."

He knew how precious this ointment was; it could save a life from even the most grievous injury.

It was, in truth, an outrageous request.

But Bai Wanwan didn’t hesitate. While he wasn’t looking, she quickly opened her system panel, exchanged her points for a vial of Extreme Effect Golden Sore Medicine, and closed her palm around it.

She pretended to rummage in her sleeve before pulling it out and handing it to him.

"Here, Young Clan Leader."

She had wanted to ask about the situation at the front, but the moment Jin Yi took the medicine, he turned and vanished in a blur.

She paced around the room for a long time before she couldn’t stand it anymore. Turning to her Beast Husbands, she said, "I want to go to the front lines and see what’s happening."

"Wanwan," Zhu Xiu said, shaking his head. "It’s too dangerous. Xin Feng and Yan Lie will stay here to guard you. If the city falls, they’ll take you and the cubs and leave first."

Bai Wanwan caught the implication. "And you?"

"I killed the Bear Clan’s young leader, which gave them the justification to attack the Golden Lion Clan. The Golden Lion Tribe is losing. I’m going to help them."

Bai Wanwan grabbed his arm. "We’ll go together. I want to see if there’s any way I can help. If there really isn’t, I promise I’ll leave with Yan Lie and Xin Feng. I won’t hold you back."

Yan Lie and Xin Feng remained silent. Their first duty was to protect Wanwan and the cubs, but if they could, they also wanted to lend their strength to the Golden Lion Tribe.

Bai Wanwan expected Zhu Xiu to refuse, but he quickly nodded. "Alright. If the situation takes a turn for the worse, you let Xin Feng and Yan Lie get you out of here."
