Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Values Follow the Female

Amid the clamor, a female bundled up like a dumpling rushed out.

Shivering, she said to the crowd, "Don’t forget how many females of our Golden Lion Tribe this Bai Wanwan has harmed! She drugged me and made me scratch my face raw. I still have all these scars, and now she’s deliberately refusing to give us any potatoes."

She paused, her expression stubborn and resentful. "Clan Leader, she’s just an outsider. How can you let her bully us like this?"

Clan Leader Jin Cang had been standing to the side, intentionally allowing Jin Yi and Bai Wanwan the space to earn the tribe’s respect and admiration.

But he hadn’t expected trouble to break out.

Clan Leader Jin Cang’s expression instantly darkened. "Bullying you? These are the potatoes Wanwan grew. She’s willing to share them because she doesn’t want to see us starve. If she chose not to, she wouldn’t be in the wrong."

His words shut Jin Yuan up, but after a moment’s hesitation, she pressed on stubbornly, "But what about before, when she made us scratch our faces raw and drink all that dung water?"

This time, before Clan Leader Jin Cang could speak, Bai Wanwan drawled, "Did I pour it down your throat? You didn’t have to drink it. Nobody forced you."

Without giving the other female a chance to process that, Bai Wanwan turned to the surrounding Beastmen. "This female is named Jin Yuan, correct?"

"Yes, her name is Jin Yuan."

"Right. This Jin Yuan is the one who led a group to dig up my potatoes. Luckily, she didn’t succeed. Otherwise, all of you would be starving right now."

Jin Yuan was visibly stunned. ’When did I ever lead people to dig up her potatoes?’

’All I did was take advantage of the trouble with the Bear Clan to redirect everyone’s anger toward Bai Wanwan.’

’But the Young Clan Leader was protecting her, so my plan failed.’

But Bai Wanwan gave her no chance to argue, accusing her with a grave expression, "If I hadn’t defended these potatoes with my life until the Young Clan Leader arrived, you all would have destroyed them long ago."

"And you wouldn’t just have been destroying potatoes, but also the females and cubs who would have starved without them..."

Bai Wanwan’s words clearly inflamed the Beastmen.

"You’re lying! I never dug up your potatoes."

"True, you didn’t."

Receiving this answer, Jin Yuan immediately turned to the angry tribe members to explain. "You hear that? She admitted I didn’t do it."

Only then did Bai Wanwan slowly add, "You didn’t dig them up, but you never should have had the idea in the first place. If you had succeeded in destroying them, you would have been a traitor to the entire tribe!"

Jin Yuan opened her mouth, but she found that no one believed her.

Bai Wanwan had already won the approval of most of the tribe members. They were more willing to believe her than they were to believe Jin Yuan.

"I didn’t."

But whether she had or not no longer mattered.

Bai Wanwan had indeed set a trap for her. She had never been the kind and magnanimous type.

If Jin Yuan wanted revenge for the dung water incident, then Wanwan would, in turn, get revenge for Jin Yuan deliberately inciting the Beastmen and dragging her into the conflict with the Bear Clan.

The Beastmen who had been wavering only moments before were now furious. If she weren’t a female, their claws might have already been on her.

"Jin Yuan, go home. These potatoes were grown by Wanwan. Even as Clan Leader, I can’t force her to give them to you. You have several males in your family. As long as they’re a little more hardworking, your family can make it through the snow season."

Facing the Clan Leader’s suspicious and contemptuous gaze, Jin Yuan couldn’t take it anymore. She turned and ran home in tears.

The rest of the Beastmen who had participated in harassing Bai Wanwan back then also slinked away in shame.

Once they were gone, the atmosphere became harmonious again.

Bai Wanwan distributed the potatoes to everyone with a beaming smile.

’The Golden Lion Tribe has over ten thousand Beastmen. Offending a few dozen insignificant ones is no big deal.’

’On the contrary, making an example of them would show everyone else that while Bai Wanwan could help them, she was not someone to be trifled with.’

After a long time of distribution, the supply of potatoes in the cellar began to dwindle.

Seeing the wind and snow begin to whip up again, a worried Jin Yi personally escorted her home.

Bai Wanwan’s objective had been achieved; she didn’t need to stay out in the snow and work until the very end.

After Jin Yi returned her to Xin Feng and Yan Lie, he went back to his duties.

Bai Wanwan entered the house, shivering.

The warmth of the room made her shiver again, this time in comfort.

Yan Lie draped a beast pelt over her shoulders. "It’s so cold out there. Jin Yi can handle things. What will you do if you get sick?"

"I might be a little cold, but I’m in a great mood..."

She recounted the incident with Jin Yuan with a broad smile.

"After this, I doubt anyone in the Golden Lion Tribe will dare to frame you again."

Bai Wanwan nodded. "That’s also thanks to what you all risked your lives for. If you hadn’t defeated the Bear Clan, just the gift of potatoes wouldn’t have been enough to earn their complete trust and respect."

’But now, with these two events combined, I believe that if anyone tries to frame me in the tribe from now on, the Golden Lions won’t stand for it.’

A few days later, she heard that in order to feed Jin Yuan and their cubs, her Beast Husbands went out hunting every day. They starved themselves to skin and bones, and nearly all the food they managed to bring back went to the female and the cubs.

Later, during a hunt, two of her Beast Husbands were so exhausted that wild beasts managed to bite through their necks.

When the news reached the tribe, all the Beastmen were incredibly somber. If they weren’t so desperately hungry, the males would never have been killed so easily by beasts weaker than themselves.

Bai Wanwan leaned against Xin Feng, turning her head to look at him. "Do you think I went too far?"

Xin Feng’s eyes were as clear as spring water, soothing to the soul.

He stroked her back. "It has nothing to do with you. Don’t let your mind run wild."

"I’m not. I certainly don’t think I was in the wrong; she’s the one who picked a fight with me. But two of her Beast Husbands died because of her, and I just think it’s a shame."

’That’s just how it was in this world. The males were so good to their females that they were almost always the ones to pay the price for their females’ mistakes.’

’She was simply lamenting the loss of those two males’ lives.’

’It wasn’t worth it for a female like Jin Yuan!’

"It was their choice. If it was a mistake, so be it."

Bai Wanwan couldn’t help but raise her hands to cup his face. "What if one day I become a truly wicked female, completely beyond redemption? If you knew I was doing something wrong, would you still help me do bad things?"

"If I thought it was wrong, I would try to persuade you otherwise. But if I couldn’t, I would stand with you and face everything together."

A smile touched her lips. "I knew it. A male’s moral compass just follows his female around here."

Though Xin Feng didn’t understand her exact words, he seemed to grasp the general meaning.

His palm gently stroked her already gently swelling belly. "Where do you want to go when the warm season comes?"

Bai Wanwan hadn’t thought about it. ’I’ll just take things as they come.’

’Actually, after mating with Jin Yi, staying here would be the best choice.’

’But her situation was unique. The more she cared for the Golden Lion Tribe, the more she knew she couldn’t stay. Otherwise, she might bring disaster upon them.’
