Chapter 415: Chapter 415: Legs Went Soft

"Wanwan..." Yan Lie called her name softly, his voice tinged with an aggrieved tone. His moist, amber eyes gazed at her, like those of a big, drenched cat.

Bai Wanwan’s heart finally softened. With a light sigh, she said to Yin Ze, "It’s still early. Why don’t you come lie with me for a while too?"

Yan Lie’s eyes lit up; he knew at once that Wanwan was helping him.

He immediately broke free from Yin Ze’s grip, shot out of the room, and fled faster than a startled Rabbit Beast.

Yin Ze watched the figure vanish in a flash, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.

’Only Yan Lie, spoiled by Wanwan, would dare to be so reckless.’

’If it had been him... would Wanwan have been so forgiving?’

Seeing Yin Ze still standing frozen in place, Bai Wanwan threw back the thin blanket. Her bare feet stepped onto the cool stone floor as she walked toward him, one step at a time.

She wrapped her slender arms around his waist from behind, her soft palms pressing against his abs, and rested her cheek gently on his back.

"What’s wrong?" she asked.

Yin Ze looked down at the fair hands around his waist and slowly covered them with his own.

His thumb unconsciously caressed her delicate skin. "Wanwan..."

"Hm?" she murmured, pressing against him, her voice soft. "Are you angry?"

Yin Ze turned around and pulled her into his arms.

He lowered his head, burying it in the crook of her neck, and said sullenly, "I was just thinking... Yan Lie dares to pester you like this because you spoil him. If it had been me, would you have been just as lenient?"

Bai Wanwan tilted her head up, poking his solid chest with a fingertip. She smiled. "I’m not angry, and it’s not because it was Yan Lie. It’s because this isn’t a big deal. I wouldn’t have been angry with any of you."

Yin Ze stared at her, his gaze gradually deepening.

’That’s right. Wanwan was different from every other female he had ever met.’

’She never scolded males casually, nor did she set up a bunch of tedious rules.’

’With her, what he felt... was always freedom.’

Feeling his arms around her tighten, Bai Wanwan tilted her head up slightly as his lips brushed gently against her hair.

"It’s still early. Come lie with me a little longer," she invited.

The tension in Yin Ze’s brow eased, and a smile blossomed in his eyes. "Alright."

With that, he bent down, scooped her up, and placed her back on the stone bed.

Once he had also slipped under the thin blanket, Bai Wanwan suddenly rolled over, landing right on top of him. Her mischievous fingers began tracing circles on his well-defined chest.

Yin Ze’s breath hitched. He quickly grabbed her errant wrist, his voice husky. "Wanwan, not sleeping anymore?"

"What about you? Do you really want to sleep?" she whispered, leaning close to his lips. Her warm breath, carrying a faint, sweet fragrance, brushed against him.

The arm around her waist tightened noticeably, but in the next second, Yin Ze rolled over, gently placing her back on the bed. He then turned onto his side and gathered her into his embrace.

"Hm?" Bai Wanwan blinked, a little surprised.

’If it had been any of her other Beast Husbands, they would have pounced on her like ravenous wolves by now.’

’Did Yin Ze go through detox? How can he have so much self-control...’

As if afraid she would misunderstand, Yin Ze lowered his head and gave her a light peck on the lips, his voice low and soft. "Wanwan, I want to... very much. But you just gave birth. You still need to rest."

His broad palm patted her back gently, as patient as if he were soothing a cub. "I’ll hold you while you sleep. When you’ve recovered... you can have your way with me."

As he spoke, the tips of his ears turned faintly red, and a light blush spread to his neck.

A mischievous glint appeared in Bai Wanwan’s eyes. Her fingertips slowly drifted downward as she deliberately teased him. "Really...? Anything I want?"

Yin Ze’s breath caught sharply. His Adam’s apple bobbed, and his voice was so hoarse it was almost unrecognizable. "Wanwan..."

"Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you..." She laughed and pulled her hand back, but she couldn’t help sighing internally.

’Her other Beast Husbands were as ferocious as wolves, yet Yin Ze was the only one who was so earnest to a fault.’

’At this rate... he’ll always be at a disadvantage.’

’I’ll have to be more proactive with him in the future.’

She yawned, and with his gentle pats, Bai Wanwan gradually drifted off to sleep.

*******

The days passed one by one, and the scorching summer sun baked the earth.

Worried she couldn’t handle the intense heat, her Beast Husbands took turns watching over her, forbidding her from going near the new house that was under construction.

So she spent her days in the relatively dilapidated old house, looking after the cubs and experimenting with food.

"Wanwan, I’m really pregnant!" Yin Mei burst out of the room, overcome with joyful surprise.

Tears of joy shimmered in her beautiful eyes.

She had never thought the day would come when she would actually become a Mother.

’I was just wondering when Sister Yin Mei would find out.’

’To think it took her and Kong Lai ten days to realize it.’

"Sister Yin Mei, congratulations!" Bai Wanwan was infected by her happiness, a smile touching the corners of her eyes.

Yin Mei rushed over and threw her arms around her. "It was you who helped me, Wanwan! Thank you for making my dream of becoming a Mother come true! Wanwan... I’m so, so happy!"

"Sister Yin Mei, you’ll have many more cubs. You can have as many as you want. The Beast God told me so in a dream!" Bai Wanwan tilted her head up slightly, deliberately striking a proud and cocky pose.

"Yes, yes," Yin Mei said, her eyes full of doting affection. "If Wanwan says it can happen, then it definitely can."

"When Kong Lai gets back, I’ll tell him the good news. He’ll be overjoyed."

The two were chatting in low voices when suddenly, a faint call came from outside the door. "Mama..."

Yin Mei froze for a moment, then looked around alertly. "That’s strange. I think I heard something."

Bai Wanwan’s heart clenched. That was clearly the voice of one of her own cubs.

She immediately stood up. "Sister Yin Mei, you stay here. I’m going to check inside."

The light in the room was dim. Xin Feng was gently patting several young cubs to sleep. Seeing Bai Wanwan push the door open, he raised a finger to his lips in a shushing gesture and whispered, "They just fell asleep..."

Bai Wanwan scanned the sleeping cubs, her brow furrowed. "Did one of them just call for me?"

Xin Feng shook his head, took her hand, and gently led her out, closing the door quietly behind them.

As soon as they were outside, Bai Wanwan couldn’t help but whisper, "That’s weird, I could have sworn I heard..."

"Mama..."

The call came again, this time so weak it was nearly inaudible.

Xin Feng’s pupils contracted sharply. He whipped his head toward the main gate. "It’s outside!"

Before the words were even out of his mouth, his figure shot toward the courtyard gate like an arrow loosed from a bow.

Bai Wanwan and Yin Mei followed close behind, but they froze as if struck by lightning the moment they saw the scene outside the gate.

"Oh, gods!" Yin Mei cried out in shock.

Bai Wanwan’s legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed to the ground.

Her wolf cub!

The little one who always loved to nuzzle her palm and act spoiled was now lying in a pool of blood. His silver-gray fur was soaked through, stained a horrifying dark red.

The little wolf seemed to have used his last ounce of strength. After seeing his parents, he could no longer hold on, and his head lolled to the side as he passed out.

The trail of blood beneath him snaked away in a ghastly line, a clear sign that he had struggled all the way back home.
