Chapter 586: Chapter 583: Wanwan’s Original Form is So Cute
The night was ink-black. The recent clamor and turmoil had finally subsided, settling into a profound weariness.
By the time she returned to their humble dwelling, Bai Wanwan felt as if her bones were about to fall apart. She let out a series of yawns, her eyelids so heavy they practically glued themselves shut. A hazy film of exhaustion clouded her vision, making everything appear blurry and doubled.
Still, she pushed herself to walk over to the nest. Seeing the cubs sleeping soundly, she immediately reached out to stroke their fur.
The cubs let out contented purrs, and only then did Bai Wanwan finally let her exhaustion take over.
Xin Feng had been watching over her. Seeing her state, he immediately came forward. His strong arms wrapped securely around her swaying form, half-supporting, half-carrying her to the bed. His voice was uncharacteristically soft. "Wanwan, go to sleep."
Almost purely on instinct, Bai Wanwan reached out and grabbed the hem of Xin Feng’s clothing.
Her eyelids had already fallen shut, and her voice was thick with sleep as she mumbled her instructions. "Tomorrow morning... have everyone... pack up. We’ll set off... head back to the Tiger Clan early..."
Her words were fragmented, little more than sleep-talking.
"Okay. You just rest. Yan Lie will take care of everything," Xin Feng promised in a low, steady, and reliable voice.
Bai Wanwan was already at the brink of exhaustion. The moment Xin Feng finished speaking, the last of her tension melted away. Her breathing became deep and steady as she fell into a sound sleep.
Xin Feng didn’t leave right away, however.
He remained crouched by the bed, a silent guardian, his gaze lingering on Bai Wanwan’s sleeping face.
The flickering glow of the fire’s embers danced across her serene face, her long lashes casting soft shadows on her cheeks. The sight stirred a deep tenderness within him.
At some point, Zhu Xiu had approached, his tall figure casting a long shadow on the wall.
His gaze, soft with a subtle tenderness, also rested on Bai Wanwan. "You should sleep with Wanwan," he said quietly to Xin Feng. "Yan Lie has to finish up a few things, so I’ll be on watch tonight."
They had a long-standing, unspoken agreement to take turns watching over her.
Xin Feng didn’t object. He simply nodded. "Alright."
In her sleep, Bai Wanwan sensed a warm, familiar presence draw near. She let out a soft, unconscious murmur and, like a little animal seeking warmth, instinctively burrowed deeper into Xin Feng’s arms. Once she’d found a comfortable spot, her breathing grew even deeper and more peaceful.

At the first light of dawn, Bai Wanwan was startled awake by a faint medley of sounds from outside.
She rubbed her still-sleepy eyes, yawning as she sat up. She saw that the other males were no longer in the stone house.
She threw back the pelt blanket and stepped out of the stone house to see Xin Feng in the clearing, carefully packing their belongings.
"You’re up?" Xin Feng heard her and turned, a gentle smile spreading across his face. "I’ve made you breakfast. Zhu Xiu and the others are helping count and bundle the supplies. We’ll be able to head back in a little while."
"Okay," Bai Wanwan replied. Her gaze swept outside, and just as he’d said, all the Beastmen were bustling about, making their final preparations for departure in an orderly fashion.
She quickly splashed some clean water on her face. Now fully awake, she sat at the simple stone table and started on a few pieces of roasted meat.
"It’s a simple breakfast," Xin Feng said, looking at her apologetically. "If you don’t want roasted meat, I can make you something else."
Bai Wanwan gave him a reassuring smile and took a bite of the meat. "I’m not that fussy. This is fine. We need to get on the road."
She was only halfway through her meal when she heard a rustling from the adjacent room.
A moment later, three fluffy leopard cubs tumbled out, stumbling over one another. They let out soft yelps as they went, their big, round eyes gazing about in confusion.
"Oh, did Mama’s sweet babies wake up hungry?"
Bai Wanwan immediately set down her food and hurried over. Bending down, she gently picked up the three little ones, one by one, and gathered them into her arms.
Sensing their Mother’s scent, the little leopard cubs began to squirm restlessly in the crook of her arm. Their small, damp noses nudged eagerly against her chest, searching for their next meal.
"Easy now, easy now. Mama’s going to feed you."
"Let me hold them," Xin Feng offered. "It’s not too late to feed them after you finish your meat."
Bai Wanwan shook her head. "The cubs are hungry. I’ve had enough for now, I’m not hungry anymore. I’ll eat the rest after I feed them."
Soothing the whimpering cubs, she hurried back into the inner room with the little ones in her arms. She held them securely, preparing to nurse them.
Just then, Yan Lie and Zhu Xiu returned, having finished their tasks outside.
Yan Lie strode into the house first, just in time to witness the scene.
To make nursing easier, Bai Wanwan had already shifted into her beast form.
Under the focused gaze of her mate, Bai Wanwan—who rarely took her beast form—looked especially alluring. Her fluffy black and white fur and her petite, adorable body seemed to glow with a pure, warm aura.
Yan Lie felt as if something soft had gently nudged his heart, and the tips of his ears flushed uncontrollably.
Almost subconsciously, he lightened his steps as he approached. He reached out a hand and, with a hint of tentativeness, gently touched the soft, smooth fur on her back.
"Wanwan," his voice dropped to a near-whisper, laced with a subtle huskiness and brimming with adoration. "You’re so cute!"
This small, warm, fluffy bundle, quietly nursing their cubs... The heartwarming scene sparked an overwhelming urge in Yan Lie. He wanted nothing more than to scoop her up, cubs and all, hold them tight and gently in his arms, and just cuddle them, savoring this peace and happiness that was his and his alone.
And so, that’s exactly what he did.
He leaned down and gathered his mate and their cubs into his embrace.
The cubs were gulping audibly, and he could smell Wanwan’s unique scent, now mingled with the sweet aroma of milk.
He found himself growing thirsty as well and couldn’t help but swallow hard.
"Don’t mess around," came her muffled voice. "We have to leave as soon as I’ve fed the cubs."
Yan Lie was incredibly envious as he watched his cubs.
’I wish I could switch places with them...’
He couldn’t stop his head from dipping lower, but just then, Zhu Xiu grabbed him by the scruff of the neck. "They’re your own cubs, and you’re still trying to compete with them?"
Yan Lie cleared his throat to relieve his embarrassment. For a second there, he really had been thinking it.
"Ahem... Wanwan, I just came to tell you that everyone’s ready. We can head back anytime."
Bai Wanwan nodded her pretty, cat-like head. "Alright. As soon as the cubs are fed, we’ll leave."
