Chapter 626: Chapter 623: The Plan Succeeded

He didn’t immediately resume their previous conversation. Instead, he narrowed his eyes, his hawk-like gaze slowly sweeping over every inch of the surrounding space. He began to move slowly, personally patrolling the limited area, trying to find the source of his unease.

Bai Wanwan watched Roger’s scrutinizing face zoom in on the screen, his eyes scanning everything around him, and her heart jumped into her throat.

Her fingers, gripping the tablet, tightened slightly, her knuckles turning white.

’If he discovers the reconnaissance drone, we’ll become completely passive.’

’Once Roger and the forces behind him learn about a reconnaissance method that surpasses their understanding, they’ll become extremely vigilant.’

’From then on, trying to pilot these micro-drones close to them to gather intelligence will be next to impossible!’

’Our greatest advantage—information—will vanish without a trace.’

’We’ll no longer be able to seize the initiative, to know what Roger will do next, or what that ’Lord Beast God’ he just mentioned really is.’

Originally, she would have never believed in something like a Beast God.

But she had managed to transmigrate to this world, bringing with her black-box technology that the Beastmen didn’t understand.

So maybe there was a "Beast God" that she didn’t understand, but who was very much real.

Time seemed to freeze in that moment, every second stretching out into an eternity.

Bai Wanwan and her Beast Husbands pinned all their hopes on the cleverly disguised, silently lurking "little bug," praying it could escape this ordeal.

Like the most patient of hunters, Roger stood still for a moment, his sharp gaze sweeping over every leaf and vine as if it had physical substance.

Finally, the tense line of his jaw relaxed slightly. He let out a barely audible snort, perhaps mocking himself for being too on edge.

’That feeling of being watched, like a persistent shadow, must have been my imagination.’

When she saw Roger finally turn away on the screen and stop his search, the heart that had been lodged in Bai Wanwan’s throat slowly dropped back into place. She realized a thin layer of cold sweat had broken out on her back.

Just then, the puppet-like Beastmen, who had been sitting as still as stone statues, seemed to receive an invisible command. They stood up in unison, their movements slightly stiff, and then, just as they had arrived, they silently and methodically vanished into the depths of the dense jungle.

Roger, however, did not leave immediately.

He stood with his back to the drone’s camera, his figure appearing solitary and inscrutable on the screen.

The screen suddenly fell silent, leaving only the faint whisper of the wind through the treetops and the distant, indistinct chirping of birds.

’They’re leaving!’

The subconscious realization spurred her into immediate action.

’If I just let them disappear from my sight, then all my previous efforts and risks, not to mention the ten thousand Points I spent, will have been for nothing.’

’I have to do something to uncover more of the truth hidden beneath this fog!’

’I’ve already spent ten thousand to buy the bug-shaped drone. If they leave and the bug can’t keep up, I’ll have to waste another twenty thousand to buy another one to track them.’

’No way, that stings!’

This tangible sense of "loss" made her instantly decide to take another gamble.

She forced herself to calm down, her slender fingers once again settling on the small joystick.

Under her control, the bug-shaped drone, which had been lurking silently in the treetop, began to crawl down the rough bark in an almost squirming motion, moving with extreme slowness and caution. It landed noiselessly on the layer of fallen leaves on the ground.

’How can I follow them without being detected?’

Her mind raced.

’Following the highly perceptive Roger directly is too risky.’

’I can’t guarantee he won’t discover the drone if it gets too close to him.’

’Switching targets might be a better choice.’

Her gaze locked onto a rather ordinary-looking male Beastman at the rear of the group, one whose aura was also relatively weaker.

So, she maneuvered the bug drone, moving it slowly.

The tiny bionic machine weaved through fallen leaves and grass roots, avoiding dry twigs that might make a sound. Its path was erratic, just like a real insect.

This delicate operation was incredibly mentally taxing, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her temples.

The male Beastmen beside her noticed her tension. Jin Yi couldn’t help but lower his voice and soothe her gently, "Wanwan, don’t be nervous. It would be great if you succeed, but if you don’t, it just means it will take a little more time. We’ll find other clues eventually."

Bai Wanwan nodded at him, but she knew perfectly well that if they could successfully obtain firsthand information, they could plan ahead, seize the initiative, and potentially avoid countless unnecessary sacrifices.

’But if this doesn’t work,’ she thought, ’we might have to fumble around in the dark. We could lose many Beastmen, including my Beast Husbands and our cubs. In the future, we could all face even greater, unknown crises... That’s a price I can’t afford to pay.’

With her precise control, the little bug used the cover of the terrain to finally approach the chosen Beastman.

It deftly climbed up a low-lying fern nearby. Upon reaching the soft tip of the highest frond, it used the leaf’s elasticity to make a nimble leap, landing precisely in a fold of the Beastman’s tightly fastened animal-hide belt. It then quickly found a crevice, slipped inside, and concealed itself perfectly.

Hidden behind a layer of animal hide, it would be very difficult for him to notice its presence.

Sure enough, even when Roger seemed to have finished his thoughts, waved his hand to signal their departure, and the group began to move, not a single one of the males noticed the addition of this tiny "uninvited guest."

’Success!’

Bai Wanwan’s taut nerves instantly relaxed. Only then did she feel that her fingers had become somewhat stiff and were trembling slightly from the prolonged grip and delicate maneuvering.

She gently set the joystick aside and grasped her slightly tense fingers with her other hand, but she didn’t dare take her eyes off the screen for a second.

Now she no longer needed to control it; the bug would move with its carrier.

But due to the camera’s angle, she couldn’t see much of the picture, only occasional glimpses of the rapidly passing ground and vegetation through a gap in the animal hide.

There was no conversation within the group, only the continuous RUSTLE and CRUNCH of leaves and branches being trampled underfoot as they marched on in silence.

She stared intently at the monotonous scene on the screen, silently calculating the time in her head.

’Our time is a bit tight. I hope this "little bug" can send back some useful information soon so we can wrap things up here and make it to Jinying’s important bonding ceremony.’

On the screen, the small dot representing the drone’s signal was moving away quickly.

"They’re getting farther and farther away. Should we follow them?" Yin Ze asked, turning his head toward Bai Wanwan.

Bai Wanwan shook her head, her gaze still locked on the tablet screen. "No. There’s nothing we can do even if we follow. Let’s just watch for now."
