Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Don’t Think You Can Hide It From Me

’Xin Feng searched all night and still hasn’t found him?’

Time ticked by. The cubs were all awake now. When their calls for their Father Beast and Mother went unanswered, they all came running out of the inner room.

Upon seeing Bai Wanwan at the entrance, they let out little whimpers and rushed over, circling her feet.

She bent down, scooped up the cubs, and headed back inside.

The cubs squirmed and burrowed in her arms, so Bai Wanwan had no choice but to shift into her beast form to feed them.

Lately, their Father Beast had been forcing them to eat meat, so they rarely sought out their Mother to nurse anymore.

They scrambled over each other, making possessive yet contented gurgling sounds as they ate.

Once the cubs were fed, Bai Wanwan became even busier, constantly having to wrangle the ones that tried to run out the door.

It was exhausting. One cub was hard enough to handle, but she’d given birth to five.

And there could be many more litters in the future.

Just as she was reaching the point of exhaustion, Shi Hua’s voice came from outside.

"Sister..."

Bai Wanwan felt a wave of relief wash over her. She immediately dropped the cub in her arms into the nest and stood up. "Is that you, Shi Hua?"

"It’s me, Sister. Can I come in?"

"Of course, come in."

Shi Hua stepped inside cautiously, her eyes immediately drawn to the fully furnished room.

Having earned some Points, Bai Wanwan had spent them not only on bedding and furniture but also on a few decorations.

She had decorated the entire stone house to be cozy and beautiful.

Shi Hua had never seen such a beautiful home. The flowers and strange branches hanging on the walls were gorgeous; she had never seen anything like them.

"Shi Hua, quick, help me stop that cub!"

Bai Wanwan was out of breath. She had just put one cub down only to turn and see another one making a break for it.

Shi Hua immediately looked down to see a sturdy little wolf pup charging toward her feet, about to dart past her and out the door.

Shi Hua wasn’t delicate like other females. Having spent her childhood being chased and bullied by them, she’d developed a speed and agility that allowed her to snatch up the pup with a single, swift motion.

She walked back toward Bai Wanwan, nabbing another escaping pup on the way.

"Thank goodness you’re here. These cubs are driving me crazy."

Shi Hua gave an honest, simple smile. "Why don’t you take a break? I can help."

"That would be amazing. Could you watch them for me? I’m going to go look outside."

In truth, she hadn’t slept all night and had spent the morning chasing cubs. She was exhausted, hungry, and sleepy.

But with so much weighing on her mind, she couldn’t possibly relax enough to sleep.

She dragged her feet to the entrance and listlessly peered outside.

A whole night had passed. Why weren’t Xin Feng and Zhu Xiu back yet?

’What on earth happened?’

After standing at the door for a while, Bai Wanwan was overcome by hunger.

She had no choice but to go back inside.

She heated up the leftover meat from yesterday and served it on a Stone Plate.

"Shi Hua, I’ve closed the door. You can come out now, don’t worry about the cubs."

"Okay, coming."

A moment later, Shi Hua emerged holding two cubs. She caught a whiff of something delicious, and though she hadn’t been hungry a moment ago, her stomach suddenly growled.

Bai Wanwan gestured to her. "There’s still leftover meat from yesterday. Come have some with me."

The amount she’d cooked wouldn’t have even been enough for her two males, but since neither of them ate yesterday, there was so much left over that she couldn’t possibly finish it alone.

Shi Hua fought back her craving, shaking her head and averting her gaze. "I’ve already eaten."

"Even so, have a little more."

Looking at her thin frame, Bai Wanwan thought that of all the females she’d seen, Shi Hua was the frailest.

In the Beast World, most females were treated with privilege. They didn’t have to do a thing, and males would bring food right to them.

Only females with extremely low fertility were likely to go hungry.

Without even having to ask about Shi Hua’s past, she could guess that, like this body’s original owner, she was a female with low fertility.

She stood, took the cubs from Shi Hua, and set them on the floor before pulling her down to sit. "Just keep me company, then. I don’t have much of an appetite, and watching you eat might help me get a few more bites down."

She had to stay and watch the cubs; she couldn’t leave.

And even if she did leave, where would she look? She wasn’t a male born with a Talent.

Other than worrying herself sick here, there was nothing else she could do.

All she could do was try to adjust her mindset and reassure herself that they were two males with High Rank Talents. She didn’t need to be so anxious.

Shi Hua’s arrival had certainly helped her relax a great deal.

At first, Shi Hua was hesitant to eat too much, but the food was so delicious that she couldn’t help herself. She ate piece after piece, and before she knew it, she’d eaten more than her share.

"I... I ate it all."

Shi Hua blushed. Food was so precious, yet she had eaten everything Bai Wanwan had made.

"It’s fine that it’s finished. Was it enough? If not, I can make you something else."

Even as she spoke, Bai Wanwan was still a bit distracted.

When she turned her head, she saw that Shi Hua’s eyes were red-rimmed, and she was staring at her without blinking.

Bai Wanwan was taken aback. "What’s wrong?"

Shi Hua’s lips trembled. Her plain face took on a kind of simple, honest charm.

"Ever since I was little, no Beastman has ever been this nice to me... *sob*..."

Her crying pulled Bai Wanwan’s wandering thoughts back to the present. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

But having transmigrated and fused with this body’s original memories, she could understand and empathize with Shi Hua’s feelings.

She reached out and patted her on the shoulder. "That’s their fault, not yours. Look how wonderful you are. You protected my cubs, you told me to run first when we were in danger, and you just helped me look after them. You’re the best female Beastman I’ve ever met."

Shi Hua stopped crying at once, her tear-filled eyes wide. "Really?"

"Really. It’s not your fault that others bully you. You can’t control your birth or your fertility. On the other hand, a malicious female like Mu Shan is the truly detestable one. But when she runs into someone even more malicious than her—like me—she just has to put up with it."

Shi Hua blushed and stammered, "No, you... you’re not malicious at all."

"Silly Shi Hua. I’m not like this with other females. When you face someone malicious, you have to be even more malicious than they are."

As she spoke with Shi Hua, Bai Wanwan had already glanced toward the closed main door five times.

Shi Hua finally noticed something was amiss. "Sister, what are you looking at?"

Bai Wanwan voiced her worries. "My two Beast Husbands went out, and they still aren’t back. I’m getting worried."

Shi Hua immediately offered, "I’ll go look for them for you. I know the surrounding area very well."

Bai Wanwan immediately shook her head. "No, you can’t. It’s dangerous out there. As a female, you shouldn’t just leave the tribe."

Shi Hua lowered her voice. "Actually, I go out to find food all the time. I’m really familiar with the area, I promise."

Just as she was speaking, the stone door was pushed open from the outside.

The cubs who had been trying to sneak out the entrance were startled and leaped back.

Once they steadied themselves and saw it was their Father Beast, they immediately swarmed forward again.

Bai Wanwan shot up from her seat and walked toward him, her eyes peering past him to the outside.

"You still haven’t found him?"

Xin Feng’s expression was grim. "I found him."

Bai Wanwan breathed a sigh of relief and craned her neck to look outside again. "Then where is he?"

"He won’t be able to come back for a while. Don’t worry."

Bai Wanwan stared at his face. "Are you two hiding something from me?"

Xin Feng reached out and took her hand in his. "We’re not hiding it from you. We were just afraid you’d worry."

"Not telling me is what makes me worry. Did something happen to Zhu Xiu? Just tell me everything."
