Chapter 1089 - 508: Dream of a Beautiful Afterlife
Chapter 1089: Chapter 508: Dream of a Beautiful Afterlife
Then he sent a WeChat message to Kenneth Osborne: Mr. Osborne, we’re having a party in the backyard tonight. Wanna join us?
Kenneth Osborne didn’t see this message at all.
He was busy tracking the external IPs that had attacked their website over the past six months, searching and recording.
By the time he saw the message, it was already 7:30 PM.
He shook his head and replied: No need, I’m busy, thanks.
At this moment, Edward Foster was lying side by side with Lawrence Winters on the wicker lounge chairs on the backyard terrace.
Lawrence Winters frowned and asked, "Neither Abigail nor Mr. Osborne is coming?"
Edward Foster laughed a bit guiltily and said, "I asked them, and they both said they weren’t coming."
"It’s just dinner, why wouldn’t they come? Do they not eat dinner?" Lawrence questioned puzzledly.
"Hehe, I asked if they wanted to come for a barbecue party. People like them can’t waste time, you know?" Edward Foster gleefully patted himself on the back.
But Lawrence Winters heard the slyness in his words.
Many parties involve barbecuing, but barbecuing doesn’t always mean there’s a party.
Edward Foster used this misleading logic trap to make Abigail Henderson and Kenneth Osborne think it was about a party when the focus was actually on the barbecue.
Lawrence Winters glanced at Edward Foster, then averted his gaze, looking at the backyard ahead.
The lawn in the backyard of this house was spacious, with towering mountains and towering trees far off in the distance.
Wooden lanterns in a natural color hung on the wooden lamp beads at the four corners of the yard, emitting a soft white glow.
The light came with a bit of technicality; it emitted no heat and had a cooling mosquito-repelling effect.
So although the outside temperature was close to 35 degrees, the entire backyard was only 26 or 27 degrees, very comfortable and cool.
In the middle of the lawn stood a barbecue grill, and the chef of the Foster Family, wearing a white chef’s hat and gray apron, was using his chubby hands to flip the meat skewers while attending to the vegetables on the nearby grill.
The meat had been prepared in the afternoon, going through the processes of peeling, washing, and inspection.
The Daoist Wang and Daoist Quan were both in a low mood, silently helping the chef with seasoning and skewer preparation by the grill.
Mr. Zhuge was probably the happiest of everyone here.
He sat alone at a long table in the northwest corner of the lawn, with several white bone china plates rimmed with gold set before him, containing roasted rabbit, venison, deer, and jumbo shrimp, along with roasted mushrooms, bell peppers, a plate of bright red strawberries, and peeled white lychees.
He was eating heartily, thoroughly enjoying himself.
Mrs. Foster, having heard they were barbecuing tonight, returned from visiting her friend in another city.
She and her friend had been friends for decades, not seeing each other recently, they had an endless list of things to talk about.
Nevertheless, upon hearing about Edward’s barbecue, she hurried back.
After all, she had to help her son pursue his future wife...
By the time she returned to Melany Community, it was well past 7:00 PM.
As soon as she got out of the car, the fragrant aroma of barbecue wafted in from the backyard.
Mrs. Foster beamed, quickly freshened up and changed her clothes, and went to the backyard terrace.
Seeing Edward and Lawrence lying side by side on two wicker chairs, the picture was unexpectedly harmonious and beautiful. She smiled slightly and walked over.
"You two sure know how to enjoy yourselves; why aren’t you eating?" Mrs. Foster’s voice sounded from behind them.
Lawrence Winters and Edward Foster sat up together and turned their heads, seeing it was Mrs. Foster, they hurriedly said, "You’re back, have you had dinner?"
Edward stood up immediately, giving his wicker lounge chair to Mrs. Foster.
Mrs. Foster, without hesitation, sat on the chair Edward had just vacated and nodded to Lawrence Winters, "Lawrence, you look beautiful again today."
Lawrence bashfully closed his eyes, "Mrs. Foster praises me every day, and now I’m lost."
"I’m just telling the truth, how is that praise?" Mrs. Foster gave Edward an admonishing glance, "Why don’t you get us something to eat? What are you doing standing there? You’re in your twenties and still so clueless. No wonder you can’t find a wife!"
Edward chuckled, "I’ll go get you some food. You two take your time chatting."
It was double happiness to have the girl he liked also be approved by his parents.
Humming a tune, he headed to the grill, asking the chef to prepare a few fresh meat plates for him.
Freshly grilled meat skewers are tastier and more tender than those left to sit for a while.
Once they cool, they become a bit tough, and people with bad teeth can’t even chew them.
Now the barbecue was nearing its end, and Mr. Zhuge was nearly unable to stand from eating so much.
The Daoist Wang and Daoist Quan were eating without appetite, randomly nibbling on grilled vegetables, mushrooms, and a little wild rabbit meat.
As Edward Foster carried a large tray towards the terrace, Mr. Zhuge, Daoist Wang, and Daoist Quan came over to thank and bid farewell.
The host and guide, who both had eaten a lot, were a bit drowsy and followed behind the three, taking turns thanking Edward Foster.
Edward Foster waved his hand, "Don’t be so polite, it’s just dinner."
After sending off these people, Edward convinced the chef, who had worked hard all day, to go back and rest.
Only Edward Foster, Mrs. Foster, and Lawrence Winters were left in the backyard.
Edward got energetic again, smiling and saying, "Let me show off my special skill, I’ll make Heavenly Mountain Stone Roasted Lobster Tail!"
He poured a spoonful of oil onto a stone slab that had been heated all afternoon, then placed the prepared lobster tails onto it.
Sizzling sounds arose, filling the air with the unique aroma of lobster.
Lawrence Winters swallowed, feeling genuinely hungry now.
...
Because they stayed up late last night, and Lawrence Winters later drank a bottle of beer and a little gin, the two types of alcohol mixed, giving a particularly strong after-effect.
She slept until the afternoon the next day, only to be woken up by the noisy sound of her phone ringing repeatedly.
Half asleep, she glanced at the phone and discovered it was another call from Daoist Wang.
She swiped to answer, asking drowsily, "...Daoist Wang, what’s up this time?"
Daoist Wang said anxiously, "You’re still asleep?! Turn on the TV! Quick, turn on the TV! Miss Tang is in trouble again!"
Lawrence Winters: "..."
She snapped awake, climbing out of bed, "Wasn’t she confined in the intensive ward of the psychiatric hospital? What could have happened?"
"I don’t know how she escaped from the psychiatric hospital’s intensive ward. But this afternoon, just now, ten minutes ago, she ran into the president’s office of Mr. Yu’s company and slashed his throat with a paper cutter!"
Lawrence Winters: "!!!"
