Devouring Sword God
Chapter 379: Slaughtering a Path Through
Chapter 379: Chapter 379: Slaughtering a Path Through
After killing Di Heng, Yi Xiaoyao stood on the spot, lost in thought.
’Why can the Soul Burning Forbidden Technique only increase my Cultivation by a single layer now?’
His eyes flickered for a moment. He had a faint guess that it might be related to him entering the Void-Entering realm.
After pondering it for a while, Yi Xiaoyao passed through the Alchemy Mastery checkpoint at the junction and continued forward.
The difficulty of the subsequent checkpoints, which tested one’s Alchemy Mastery, grew increasingly harder. But this was only true for other Alchemists; for Yi Xiaoyao, they were a piece of cake.
Before long, Yi Xiaoyao arrived at the second junction and encountered a second person.
The man showed no surprise upon seeing Yi Xiaoyao, merely a slight upturn of his lips. "It’s you. The one the Di Family put a mark on. I’ll give you a chance. Cede the path behind you to me."
"And if I don’t?" Yi Xiaoyao asked indifferently.
"Die!"
The moment the word "die" left the man’s mouth, the edge of Yi Xiaoyao’s sword had already slashed out with a sharp, green glint.
The body fell. He continued forward.
Looking at the map at his feet, Yi Xiaoyao’s brow twitched. He had reached one of the nine "living paths."
This meant he had become everyone’s target. Those on the other "dead ends" were all heading toward him.
From now on, there would be an enemy at every junction. And through survival of the fittest, the foes he encountered later on would only grow stronger.
Yi Xiaoyao realized this without a shred of fear. His gaze resolute, he pressed on. No one could stop him from taking first place.
If gods blocked his path, he would kill them. If demons stood in his way, he would slay them.
Sure enough, at the next junction, two people walked in simultaneously from the passages on the left and right.
Seeing that Yi Xiaoyao’s Cultivation aura was only at the Void-Entering Second Realm, they paid him no mind, let alone considered him an opponent.
The two looked at each other. Both were at the Void-Entering Fourth Realm. If they fought, it would most likely end in mutual injury.
Therefore, both of them turned to look at Yi Xiaoyao, who had the lowest Cultivation. One of them had an idea.
"How about this: whichever of us kills this kid first gets to take this living path?"
"Good, it’s a deal!"
Having reached an agreement, they stared at Yi Xiaoyao, their faces twisting into savage smiles.
Hearing their conversation and seeing the two figures shooting toward him, a cold smirk appeared on Yi Xiaoyao’s indifferent face.
"The only thing you two can compete for is who dies first."
The Cyan Wood Life-cutting Sword. A sword light that extinguished all Vitality sliced through the air, striking both of their attacks at once. It cleaved through their techniques and continued on, cutting horizontally across the narrow passage.
Faces filled with disbelief, the two men stared blankly as Yi Xiaoyao walked past them. Then, both of their bodies split in two and collapsed.
The living path Yi Xiaoyao was currently on connected to every other dead end, so the junctions were extremely frequent.
Since this was the Red Butterfly Saint Witch’s test for Yi Xiaoyao, the trial was naturally not that simple.
The Cultivation suppression in this Alchemy Dao Arena had a Critical Point at twenty-five years of age. At this age, a monstrously talented individual could even reach the peak of the Void-Entering realm.
Such a thing would have been considered a fairy tale in the former Great Xia Empire, or even the current Great Shang Empire.
But this was the Great Yu’s Eight Desolates. Here, the young people were either monstrously talented, or even more so.
Of course, those who entered the Alchemy Dao Arena were all Alchemists. Anyone who could continue to advance in the arena had to possess extremely high Alchemy Mastery. This also meant their Cultivation and combat strength were somewhat lacking compared to those monstrously talented geniuses who focused solely on Cultivation.
But even so, it was still a great challenge for Yi Xiaoyao.
For instance, at this very moment, a young man in red clothes with a Fifth-Layer Void-Entering Cultivation stood at the junction before Yi Xiaoyao, watching him with cold eyes.
The Bloodthirsty Sword dragged on the ground, making a series of heart-pounding scrapes. Yi Xiaoyao walked indifferently toward the red-clothed youth, passed him, and continued on his way.
The red-clothed youth had his arms crossed over his chest, a look of surprise in his eyes as he watched Yi Xiaoyao pass him so calmly. It was this very nonchalance that made him hesitate.
Among those who had entered the Alchemy Dao Arena, Yi Xiaoyao’s Cultivation was considered quite low. But the fact that he had made it this far was enough to prove he was no simple character.
Moreover, the red-clothed youth remembered that Yi Xiaoyao was the one Di Heng had marked for death. The fact that he was still unharmed couldn’t possibly be chalked up to good luck.
After hesitating for a moment, the red-clothed youth finally called out in a cold voice, "Stop! You. How about a little spar between us?"
Yi Xiaoyao frowned and looked back. The red-clothed youth was smiling. "No killing. We’ll stop before it goes too far."
This person was wary of Yi Xiaoyao but was unwilling to just give up. He wanted to test Yi Xiaoyao’s strength while ensuring his own survival. If his probing attack succeeded, Yi Xiaoyao’s life and death would be in his hands.
"My sword is a sword for killing. My Swordsmanship is a swordsmanship for killing," Yi Xiaoyao said as he continued walking, his indifferent voice drifting back. "If you’re going to waste my time, then you will have to die."
The red-clothed youth’s brow furrowed. He was a genius himself, and his wariness was born only of caution. But upon hearing Yi Xiaoyao’s words, the arrogance in his heart was completely provoked.
"Such arrogance! I’d like to see what you’re really made of!"
A searing sword light tore through space from behind Yi Xiaoyao.
Yi Xiaoyao stopped. He activated the Soul Burning Forbidden Technique without hesitation. The Eternal Life Sword instantly transformed into four streaks of cyan light. As he turned and slashed, four sharp, graceful arcs suddenly cut through the air.
The red and cyan sword lights converged. Although the red-clothed youth was at the Fifth-Layer of the Void-Entering realm, he had not mastered any Power of Will. His strength was actually even a bit weaker than Di Heng, who had mastered the Fiery Flame Will at the Fourth-Layer of the Void-Entering realm.
Therefore, the crimson Fiery Flame Sword Light only lasted for an instant before it was sliced apart by the four cyan Sword Auras.
The red-clothed youth’s expression was one of horror. He had guessed correctly—Yi Xiaoyao was indeed no ordinary person—but now, even though he was right, it was too late.
He had said he wanted to see what Yi Xiaoyao was made of, only to discover that Yi Xiaoyao was far more than he could handle.
And Yi Xiaoyao had also said it: waste his time, and his killing sword would perform its killing swordsmanship, and kill.
It continued like this all the way. The great figures on the giant crimson gate watched as the number of Alchemists in the Alchemy Dao Arena rapidly dwindled, all feeling it was a bit of a pity.
They couldn’t understand why the Red Butterfly Saint Witch would establish such rules, sacrificing so many talented Alchemists.
How could they possibly guess that this Alchemy Dao Assembly was merely a trial for one person, a test to see if he was qualified to face the entire Cyan Wilderness?
Compared to the Cyan Wilderness, what did the sacrifices in this Alchemy Dao Assembly amount to?
The gazes of these great figures gradually converged on one of the living paths within the Alchemy Dao Arena below.
On this path, a youth with a mere Void-Entering Second Realm Cultivation was slaughtering his way through everyone!
This youth was none other than the protagonist of this Alchemy Dao Assembly’s trial, Yi Xiaoyao.
