Devouring Sword God
Chapter 380: Infant Soul, Burn
Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Infant Soul, Burn
Unwittingly, almost a full day had passed since the Alchemy Dao Arena opened. Some had been halted at the checkpoints, their Alchemy Mastery found wanting. Others had given up midway. But most had perished at the intersections between the paths.
Eventually, from each of the nine paths to life, one person emerged, stepping onto the final, singular grand road that led to the palace.
All who emerged from these nine paths were prodigies of the Alchemy Dao with considerable strength.
Of course, there was an exception: Yi Lu, who emerged from one of the paths completely unstained by blood.
Although Yi Lu’s Alchemy Mastery was extremely high, her Cultivation was only at the Void-Entering Second Realm. Yet she, too, had set foot on this final, singular grand road.
As she gazed at the palace at the end of the road, a fiery light ignited in Yi Lu’s cold, arrogant eyes.
Yi Lu then glanced at the exits of the other paths. Of the nine paths to life, eight people, including herself, had now emerged.
Yi Xiaoyao was not among the eight.
Although this was expected, Yi Lu still took a moment to confirm it. A faint smile touched her lips. ’Even though one person has yet to emerge, I highly doubt it will be Yi Xiaoyao.’
’After all, besides me, how could anyone else with a mere Void-Entering Second Realm Cultivation possibly make it onto this grand road?’
The reason Yi Lu had managed this was, of course, related to her status. She was the granddaughter of the Holy Pill Academy’s Grand Elder. Long before the Alchemy Dao Arena had even opened, her grandfather had already made arrangements with the various great families participating. As a result, her journey had been completely unobstructed.
"Yi Lu." On the grand road, three young men approached her, greeting her with a smile.
Yi Lu nodded to the three men. "It’s not bad that the four of us made it out. Now, you will help me seize the Alchemy Dao inheritance. You won’t be treated unfairly afterward."
"Why would you need them? I alone am enough to guarantee you the inheritance," one of the three, a young man with sharp, sword-like eyebrows, said with an arrogant laugh.
The other two young men looked displeased but said nothing. They were both at the Void-Entering Sixth Realm, but the sword-browed young man was at the Void-Entering Seventh Realm.
In this Alchemy Dao Arena, such a level of Cultivation made him practically invincible.
Meanwhile, the other four competitors, who had no connection to Yi Lu, all looked grim.
Previously, Yi Lu’s grandfather had also approached their four families, asking them to assist his granddaughter. However, all four believed they had a high chance of seizing the inheritance for themselves and were unwilling to pave the way for someone else’s glory. Thus, they had refused.
But now, Yi Lu’s faction was clearly more powerful. Even if the four of them temporarily joined forces, they would likely be no match for her group.
"Let’s get rid of these four before the ninth person shows up."
Yi Lu said to the three men beside her, her eyes fixed on the four competitors opposite them.
"The two of us will handle two of them."
The two Void-Entering Sixth Realm youths pointed at two of the opponents, then said to the sword-browed young man beside Yi Lu, "Lu Zhan, you can take care of the other two by yourself, right?"
Lu Zhan, the sword-browed youth at the Void-Entering Seventh Realm, immediately released his cultivation aura, projecting an air of invincibility.
"Of course."
Lu Zhan licked his lips and grinned with utter confidence. "Miss Yi Lu, just wait here for a moment."
With that, the three young men beside Yi Lu charged toward the four competitors.
The two sides clashed instantly.
Meanwhile, Yi Lu glanced at the one remaining tunnel, from which no one had yet emerged. She was worried that if the person who came out now wasn’t an ally, it would put her at a great disadvantage.
Fortunately, Lu Zhan was relying on his Void-Entering Seventh Realm strength to face two opponents, and he was handling them with ease. He was completely overwhelming them; ’He’ll defeat them soon enough,’ she thought.
At that point, the Red Butterfly Saint Witch’s Alchemy Dao inheritance would be as good as hers.
Just then, Yi Lu’s indifferent gaze flickered. She saw a blood-soaked figure stumble out of the last tunnel, dragging a crimson longsword as he slowly stepped onto the grand road leading to the Inheritance Palace.
"What?"
Yi Lu was shocked. The person who had emerged was none other than Yi Xiaoyao—the very person she had just been so certain couldn’t possibly make it.
However, Yi Lu felt no worry at all. ’I have the invincible Lu Zhan on my side,’ she thought. ’Besides, look at Yi Xiaoyao’s condition. He can barely walk straight. How could he possibly compete with me for the inheritance?’
Having exited the tunnel, Yi Xiaoyao saw the intense battle ahead and the unharmed Yi Lu. His gaze flickered, and he began walking in their direction.
Yi Xiaoyao’s steps, unsteady at first, gradually stabilized as the Cyan Wood Undying Body began to heal his wounds.
Just moments ago, at the final checkpoint, he had encountered an opponent at the Void-Entering Sixth Realm.
Even though Yi Xiaoyao could kill a Void-Entering Fifth Realm expert by activating the Soul Burning Forbidden Technique, his current strength was still lacking against someone at the Sixth Realm.
The result was predictable. Yi Xiaoyao had been brutally thrashed, and the blood covering his body was almost entirely his own.
In the end, however, by fighting as if trading his life for his opponent’s and using the surprising resilience of his Cyan Wood Undying Body to catch his foe off guard, Yi Xiaoyao had managed to kill him.
But this victory had left Yi Xiaoyao gravely injured. Even the Cyan Wood Undying Body was struggling to heal him quickly, which explained the sight that now greeted Yi Lu.
THUD! THUD!
With two heavy thuds, the two men fighting Lu Zhan were sent flying like cannonballs, landing on the ground right in front of Yi Xiaoyao and blocking his path.
"Now get lost!"
Lu Zhan roared at the remaining two opponents. They immediately broke off their engagement and retreated.
Then, Lu Zhan glanced at Yi Xiaoyao, his eyes filled with a strange expression, clearly surprised that someone with such a low Cultivation had made it this far.
He couldn’t be bothered with Yi Xiaoyao, however. Turning to Yi Lu, he said, "Let’s go, Miss Yi Lu. Go claim the inheritance that belongs to you."
A smile graced Yi Lu’s face. She gave Yi Xiaoyao a condescending nod before turning and walking toward the Inheritance Palace with her three companions.
At that moment, besides her barely contained excitement, Yi Lu was also thinking about something else.
’Yi Xiaoyao must be filled with regret right now,’ she mused. ’Regret for not accepting my invitation and refusing to help me.’
So Yi Lu thought.
But then, a cool voice sounded from behind her.
"Miss Yi Lu, I told you before. The Alchemy Dao inheritance is extremely important to me. I must obtain it."
Yi Xiaoyao said, walking toward the group as they turned to face him.
Yi Lu and her companions stopped in their tracks. They all wore strange expressions as they turned back to look at him.
"Kid, who doesn’t want the Alchemy Dao inheritance? But you should take a good look at yourself and see if you even have what it takes to seize it!" Lu Zhan and the other two sneered.
Yi Lu’s brow furrowed. After all, Yi Xiaoyao had helped her before, so she didn’t want to be too blunt.
"Young Master Yi, the Alchemy Dao inheritance is also extremely important to me," Yi Lu said coolly. "I must obtain it."
Yi Xiaoyao nodded. "If Miss Yi Lu allows me to enter the Inheritance Palace, I am willing to share the Alchemy Dao inheritance with you."
At these words, Lu Zhan and the other two burst into laughter.
Yi Lu frowned as well. ’I can get the inheritance all by myself,’ she thought. ’There’s no need to share it with Yi Xiaoyao.’
’Besides, entering the Inheritance Palace means winning first place in the Alchemy Dao Arena. On what grounds should I hand that honor over to Yi Xiaoyao?’
’This Yi Xiaoyao is really a daydreamer.’
As Yi Lu thought this, her opinion of Yi Xiaoyao hit rock bottom. Deciding not to spare him another thought, she turned and continued toward the Inheritance Palace.
"Kid, one more word of nonsense and I’ll kill you!" Lu Zhan shot Yi Xiaoyao a contemptuous look and roared, "Get lost!"
Yi Xiaoyao ignored Lu Zhan. From the look in Yi Lu’s eyes, he could tell what she was thinking.
"If it comes down to it, the few of you won’t be able to stop me from obtaining the inheritance. But forcing my way through will also cost me dearly."
Yi Xiaoyao called out, "That’s why I’m trying to negotiate. This way, I won’t have to pay that price, and you can share the inheritance with me. Why wouldn’t you take that deal?"
Yi Lu knew Yi Xiaoyao was talking to her, but she couldn’t be bothered to respond. Without even turning her head, she continued walking toward the Inheritance Palace.
Lu Zhan’s gaze turned cold. He stopped and turned around. "Kid, are you just going to ignore me? I told you, one more word of nonsense and I’d kill you! You’ve said more than enough to get yourself killed several times over!"
As he spoke, a terrifying torrent of Spiritual Power erupted from Lu Zhan, and he shot directly toward Yi Xiaoyao. In his mind, killing a mere Void-Entering Second Realm cultivator was as easy as lifting a finger.
Yi Lu still didn’t look back. ’What does Yi Xiaoyao’s life or death have to do with me?’
Seeing Lu Zhan charging at him, a cold light flared in Yi Xiaoyao’s eyes.
’The Alchemy Dao inheritance is tied to the fates of countless people. I must obtain it!’
"Since you refused to listen to reason and insist on forcing me to pay a price, then you will all have to pay an even greater one!"
"Infant Soul, burn!"
