Diary of a Criminal Investigator
Chapter 994: Preparing to Arrest Zhao Xue
“Director Li, Crime Scene Investigation has made some discoveries. This afternoon, I found some fingerprints, hair, and skin flakes on the car Wang Dezhi was driving before his disappearance. The fingerprint identification is already done, and now we are just waiting for the DNA analysis of the hair and skin flakes.”
Lu Chuan reassured Li Donglin: “We might have some progress by early tomorrow morning.”
Oh?
Li Donglin looked at Lu Chuan with some surprise; he didn’t expect further discoveries on this side.
To be honest, the traces of tires and footprints found by Lu Chuan at the crime scene had already provided the major crimes team with clear leads.
For instance, Song Mingguang’s investigation into vehicle information was advanced thanks to the identification of a BMW sedan by Lu Chuan.
Now, Song Mingguang has traced that Wang Dezhi had once transferred ownership of a second-hand BMW sedan to a woman named Zhao Xue.
Song Mingguang is now investigating Zhao Xue’s identity.
Once some clues are uncovered, it might lead directly to pinpointing Zhao Xue.
“Great! I’m waiting for your good news!”
After the meeting, Lu Chuan returned directly to the Crime Scene Investigation office.
The extraction of the hair and skin flakes has been completed, and now they are being analyzed by the equipment. In a few hours, the results should come out.
“Zhao Xue…”
Lu Chuan collected fingerprints from the panel facing the dashboard of the passenger seat: they belonged to two individuals.
One was Wang Dezhi’s, and the other belonged to a woman named Zhao Xue.
Lu Chuan roughly checked this woman’s information in the household registration system.
This woman is a local from the provincial capital, 27 years old this year.
Her residence is in this area of the provincial capital, and Lu Chuan plans to visit tomorrow.
Wang Dezhi’s Mercedes sedan was rarely used by others; according to some people from his company, it was driven by Wang Dezhi himself and was not a company car.
In a nutshell, Wang Dezhi was driving this car to handle his own affairs here in the provincial capital. If his transport company had any business receptions, they would use a designated company car.
The appearance of this woman’s fingerprint in this car indicates some relationship with Wang Dezhi.
Such a relationship is most likely romantic, as Wang Dezhi is over 40 and she is in her 20s.
A young woman appearing in a middle-aged man’s car, specifically in the passenger seat.
Now we just wait for the hair analysis result.
Lu Chuan found long and short strands of hair in the car’s backseat; the short hair could possibly belong to Wang Dezhi, but whose long hair is it?
What could two people do in the back seat of a car? And there was a significant amount of skin flake material.
Lu Chuan has been busy these past days and is quite exhausted. As the machine is conducting the analysis, he takes a moment to nap.
The sharp alarm awakened Lu Chuan early the next morning when the sky was just lightening.
Has the analysis concluded?
On the road, rubbing his eyes, he skipped washing up and directly input the results into the computer for comparison.
Indeed, the DNA information of the short hair belonged to Wang Dezhi, but unfortunately, the DNA of the long hair didn’t match any personnel.
Lu Chuan then inputs Zhao Xue’s name and ID number into the system, and sure enough, no DNA information is found.
Thinking it over, Lu Chuan grabs the fingerprint identification results and leaves the Criminal Investigation Team straightforwardly.
Since the DNA comparison failed, directly finding Zhao Xue and collecting her sample might resolve it.
Phoenix Garden District.
According to the household registration system, Zhao Xue resides here.
Building 3, Unit 4, Room 401.
Lu Chuan gets out of the car, just about to walk through the community gate, unexpectedly spotting a familiar face.
“Old Song?”
“Lu Chuan?”
Song Mingguang hadn’t expected to see Lu Chuan here, wondering why he was here.
“Lu Chuan, aren’t you busy with analysis at the Crime Scene Investigation office? Why are you here?”
Song Mingguang inquired.
Just as Song Mingguang asked, he recalled the fingerprint identification result Lu Chuan mentioned the previous day.
Before Lu Chuan could answer, Song Mingguang continued: “The person identified by the fingerprint you mentioned yesterday lives here?”
Lu Chuan nodded: “The fingerprint identification revealed some clues; the person should have some connection with the deceased, but the DNA comparison hasn’t succeeded yet. I’m here to check it out.”
Check it out?
Song Mingguang’s intuition told him that the person Lu Chuan was looking for should be the same as the one he was looking for.
“Is it someone named Zhao Xue?”
Hmm?
Lu Chuan wasn’t stupid; seeing Song Mingguang, he realized that the directional clue he mentioned yesterday should be here and thus very likely pointing to Zhao Xue.
“Looks like our two lines of investigation have converged.”
Lu Chuan shared his findings: “People from the deceased Wang Dezhi’s transport company are unclear about his private life in the provincial capital. But someone mentioned he might have had a mistress.”
“Yesterday, while accompanying Brother Wang to the victim’s company, I noticed he had been driving a Mercedes sedan until his disappearance. After his murder, the car wasn’t used anymore, so it was tested.”
“The fingerprint of Zhao Xue was discovered inside the car.”
Lu Chuan explained his side of the situation to Song Mingguang.
“On my end, once you pinpoint the BMW car…”
After roughly explaining his side, Song Mingguang pointed at the entrance of the community: “Wang Dezhi transferred his BMW car under Zhao Xue’s name.”
“Two lines of investigation converging on one person; this person’s suspicion is immense. Let’s go in and take a look,” Lu Chuan stated.
“Lu Chuan? Old Song?”
Just as the two prepared to enter, they were stopped by a familiar voice, turning to find Wang Song.
“What are you doing here?”
Wang Song had not slept all night and had been busy throughout, with the clues he found being rather vague, only knowing someone could have had an intimate relationship with Wang Dezhi, but no one from the company had clearly seen what the girl looked like.
Wang Song eventually identified the girl’s appearance through surveillance investigation, working tirelessly to confirm her identity.
So, right after confirming, Wang Song brought people over for a walkthrough investigation.
Seeing them arrive, Lu Chuan and Song Mingguang understood what was happening.
“Are you here for Zhao Xue?”
Song Mingguang asked.
“Damn!”
Wang Song froze. He was indeed here for Zhao Xue, but his investigation path differed from the other two. Now spotting Song Mingguang and Lu Chuan here indicated they also uncovered Zhao Xue’s identity.
“We three came here from different investigative leads, yet all found this person. I suppose this person…”
