Diary of a Criminal Investigator

Chapter 996: Zhao Xue Who Says Nothing

  • Next Chapter

Li Donglin was delighted after receiving the call!

Although several people mentioned having some clues yesterday, none reported to Li Donglin whether they could catch anyone. Surprisingly, today they managed to connect the clues together and found the trail of the suspect Zhao Xue, and even carried out the arrest.

Now, we’re just waiting for Lu Chuan to analyze the collected blood samples. If it matches with the deceased Wang Dezhi’s blood, then Zhao Xue can be identified as the suspect.

After hanging up, Li Donglin immediately made a call to his superiors.

With two days remaining until the major event, the leadership is highly concerned about this case. Now that the case is almost solved, Li Donglin can give a brief report to higher-ups.

This serves to reassure them; later, a police communiqué will need to be issued to announce the case has been solved.

Of course, specific details of the case and the suspect’s particulars cannot be disclosed. It may only mention that a suspect named Zhao and others have been arrested and the case is being further processed.

Having this police communiqué gives closure and resolution to the case.

While Li Donglin was busy reporting to superiors, Lu Chuan was still on-site continuing the investigation.

In the BMW car, Lu Chuan continued collecting subtle physical evidence he could find.

Like hair, skin particles, and fingerprints.

The bloodstains in the trunk have mostly been collected. Though they have dried over time, losing their original color, under UV light, they’re covered in luminous spots.

The perpetrator likely washed the vehicle after transporting the corpse.

However, the cleaning was not thorough, as bloodstains remained in hidden corners. Blood cannot be washed away completely with water, even if invisible on the surface; UV light clearly reveals it.

Additionally, Lu Chuan checked the car’s tires, which matched the ones found at the scene.

The front right tire was recently replaced, differing in wear from the others.

After taking photos, Lu Chuan didn’t need further comparison to conclude this BMW has been at the scene.

After over an hour of work, Lu Chuan had the car towed to the Criminal Investigation Team.

This is key physical evidence.

Then Lu Chuan went upstairs to continue his investigation.

Wang Song already did a preliminary check, but hadn’t conducted a detailed site survey, which Lu Chuan excels in.

The bloodstains in the freezer were cleaned, but some spots remain in crevices, so Wang Song found them. After Lu Chuan finished examining the freezer, he took photos and started working in the kitchen.

If Wang Dezhi’s body was possibly frozen in this icebox, then the first crime scene might be in this house.

The house, gifted by Wang Dezhi to Zhao Xue, is large, covering 180 square meters.

The kitchen comprises a Chinese kitchen and a Western kitchen.

In the corner cabinet of the Chinese kitchen, Lu Chuan found a small bone-cutting machine.

Though the device appeared dry, its bloodstains were distinct under UV light.

Lu Chuan planned to take the cutter back for tests; every bone cutter leaves distinct traces when cutting bones. An experiment will verify if this tool was used on Wang Dezhi.

Elsewhere in the kitchen, Lu Chuan observed spotting and splatter-like bloodstains, not easily noticed.

“Brother Wang, this is the first crime scene.”

The perpetrator likely poisoned Wang Dezhi in this house and, after freezing his body in the icebox, performed the dismemberment in the kitchen.

The splatter and spotting-like bloodstains likely came from residues during the dismemberment.

This explains the absence of splatter-type stains in the kitchen, as the body was frozen, and the blood naturally froze too.

During the cutting, splatter-type bloodstains weren’t produced.

As Lu Chuan was securing evidence, Song Mingguang was interrogating the suspect at the Criminal Investigation Team.

As the suspect is female, Song Mingguang was paired with a female detective from the provincial Criminal Investigation Team.

This is stipulated by interrogation regulations, mandating different procedures for male and female suspects.

Typically, male suspects are interrogated entirely by male detectives, with one handling interrogation and another recording, accompanied by surveillance for real-time filming.

Interrogating female suspects requires at least one female detective present.

“Zhao Xue, tell us why you killed Wang Dezhi.”

There’s no need to circle around with Zhao Xue now.

Bloodstains were found in Zhao Xue’s BMW, at her home, and at the low-pressure crime scene. Transport tools and even the bone cutter used for dismemberment were discovered, leaving no room for denial.

Yet Zhao Xue has been silent for three hours, neither admitting nor denying the murder despite Song Mingguang’s attempts. Zhao Xue refuses to utter a single word.

“Zhao Xue, staying silent won’t help. With our evidence, you’re the prime suspect in killing Wang Dezhi.”

Song Mingguang gave a signal to the female detective beside him, who began communicating softly with Zhao Xue.

This highlights the advantage of having a female detective.

On one hand, her presence protects the male interrogators; on the other, it reduces pressure and increases safety for the suspect.

“We’ve mostly established your relationship with Wang Dezhi; you were his lover here in the provincial city, correct?”

This is corroborated by Lu Chuan’s micro-evidence retrieval from Wang Dezhi’s Mercedes backseat.

The rear seat bore both their hair, traces of bodily fluids, and skin particles, indicating activities between them.

Zhao Xue’s mouth opened slightly, seemingly wanting to speak but remained silent.
