Diary of a Criminal Investigator
Chapter 998: The Person Behind Zhao Xue
Li Donglin’s temporary office.
Lu Chuan was reporting on some findings he had discovered.
“Director Li, there are still some oddities in this case, and whether Zhao Xue is the murderer requires further careful consideration at this point.”
Li Donglin had already reported the case to the relevant authorities, but didn’t expect Lu Chuan to have found other clues.
“Is there a problem? Didn’t you previously report to me that evidence was found in Zhao Xue’s house and car? Moreover, Zhao Xue’s footprints also match those at the body dumping site, which you personally verified. Are there now other issues discovered?”
From the perspective of solving the case, Li Donglin, who has a technical background as an administrative director, insists on speaking based on evidence. Any doubts in the case must not be overlooked, so if Lu Chuan has found other discoveries, the investigation must continue.
However, from his current position’s perspective, Li Donglin had already reported to the leadership that this case would not likely affect the major event happening in two days.
If a wave is stirred now by claiming that Zhao Xue is not the suspect and there is another perpetrator, it could complicate matters.
Unless the true suspect can be apprehended quickly, this matter remains unresolved.
“There are indeed some doubts, but whether these clues can negate Zhao Xue as the murderer requires further research and investigation.”
Lu Chuan was not entirely sure.
However, he needed to report any clues he discovered to Li Donglin in detail. If he withheld information and problems arose later, it would become a much larger issue.
“The footprints at the first crime scene are consistent with those of the suspect Zhao Xue, which is undoubtedly true. This means that it was definitely Zhao Xue who dumped the body at the logistics park.”
The Footprint Identification and Analysis at the scene was conducted by Lu Chuan, and after Zhao Xue was apprehended, her footprint data collection was also done by Lu Chuan.
So Lu Chuan knew very well that the footprints at the crime scene matched Zhao Xue’s. The act of dumping the body was definitely done by Zhao Xue.
“However, based on the current clue, we can only ascertain that Zhao Xue is indeed the one who discarded the body. Whether she is the suspect, the ultimate murderer, remains to be assessed.”
Lu Chuan continued his report and produced the clues he found: “I just communicated with Old Song’s side. Zhao Xue was highly uncooperative in the interrogation. She only admitted to the murder but said nothing about why and how she committed it.”
Then, Lu Chuan took out several photographs.
“Yes, these are some clues I discovered in Zhao Xue’s car and her home. Judging from the bloodstain residues, Zhao Xue’s home should be the primary murder scene. After the murder, they froze the body and used a bone cutting machine in the kitchen to dismember it.”
“Finally, they used a BMW sedan to transport the body to the abandoned logistics park and dumped it.”
“However…”
Lu Chuan retrieved photographs from inside the BMW sedan.
“After towing the car back, I found some issues when inspecting the driver’s seat and the front passenger seat.”
Lu Chuan introduced his discovery to Li Donglin in detail, then stated his hypothesis.
“Based on the adjustment angle of the driver’s seat, this BMW sedan was recently not driven by Zhao Xue, but by a man about 1.8 meters tall.”
He suddenly produced several more photographs, taken inside Zhao Xue’s house.
“These are photos I took in Zhao Xue’s house, specifically a picture inside the shoe cabinet.
The photo clearly shows two types of slippers, one type being men’s and the other women’s.
“Initially, we thought these slippers were used by Wang Dezhi at Zhao Xue’s house, but Wang Dezhi would wear slippers around size 40.”
“These slippers, however, are clearly size 44 or larger, which would not fit Wang Dezhi.”
“And here!”
Lu Chuan pulled out more photographs.
“These are photos from Zhao Xue’s bedroom closet. Inside the closet, there are Zhao Xue’s clothes and some men’s clothes. Initially, we thought they belonged to Wang Dezhi, but upon closer inspection, there are issues.”
Li Donglin took up the photographs and already understood the problem before Lu Chuan explained it.
The colors of these men’s clothes seemed odd.
Wang Dezhi was already in his forties and his dressing style would be relatively mature, unlikely to wear flamboyant and colorful short sleeves and shorts.
However, the clothes in Zhao Xue’s bedroom closet are all vibrant and trendy.
“I just returned to the scene, and looking again, these clothes are sized from 180 to 185 whereas Wang Dezhi’s height is 1.72 meters. He would not be able to wear such large clothes, implying the men’s clothes in Zhao Xue’s bedroom are not meant for Wang Dezhi. So whom are these men’s clothes for?”
“You mean… there’s someone else behind Zhao Xue?”
Li Donglin understood what Lu Chuan was implying.
Lu Chuan nodded: “Besides Wang Dezhi, there is definitely another man who frequently stays with Zhao Xue. Otherwise, there shouldn’t be men’s clothes in her home. However, whether this person was involved in the murder of Wang Dezhi is still uncertain, but I want to find this person.”
Li Donglin, after a moment of contemplation, put down the photographs and looked at Lu Chuan.
“Call Old Song and Wang Song together.”
“Yes!”
A few minutes later the task force members all arrived at Li Donglin’s temporary office.
“Lu, explain your findings to everyone again.”
Lu Chuan nodded.
Then he repeated everything he had just reported to Li Donglin in detail to the task force members.
After listening, Song Mingguang was the first to stand up: “I knew Zhao Xue staying silent during questioning had to do with protecting someone behind her.”
Wang Song also nodded: “This makes her motive for murder more predictable.”
Everyone nodded.
Since besides Wang Dezhi, Zhao Xue had another man, the possibility of a crime of passion is quite high.
For example, Wang Dezhi might have caught Zhao Xue with someone else, or perhaps the man behind Zhao Xue couldn’t tolerate Wang Dezhi any longer, both possibly leading to the current situation.
“Alright, we still need to identify this person. Everyone must do their utmost to uncover the man behind Zhao Xue,”
Li Donglin made the final arrangements.
