Chapter 1782: Shameless Morgana!

Chapter 1782: Shameless Morgana!

"So, what of it?" Morgana sneered.

Her earlier graceful smile had disappeared, and what remained on her beautiful face was a cold, mocking expression that made the charm around her feel poisonous.

The small crystal charms floating around her fingers spun slowly, and faint violet threads connected them to the roots of the Witch God Tree beneath the battlefield, revealing that her interference had not been accidental at all.

She had been waiting. She had watched Max and Selene clash, waited until Selene released her strongest Pseudo Cosmic Path, waited until Max was about to counterattack, and only then had she chosen the most disgusting moment to strike from the shadows.

"This is a battle royale," Morgana continued, her voice carrying no shame at all. "You did not expect us to be mere spectators, did you?"

Her words made the expressions of many people change.

Even some of the second faction elves looked at her with strange eyes. They had been Max’s enemies from the beginning, so they naturally wanted him dead, but even they had not expected Morgana, who had introduced herself with such elegance and had claimed to be only curious about the Witch’s curse mark, to interfere so suddenly in another person’s duel.

Her timing had been too vicious. She had not challenged Max openly. She had not even attacked him directly. She had used the roots of the Witch God Tree to bind him from below when his attention was fully occupied by Selene’s strongest attack, deliberately trying to make him take that blow without defense.

Caroline’s eyes turned cold with anger. "Shameless."

Jessica clenched her sword. "You call that battle? You hid behind the Witch God Tree and stabbed from the dark like a rat."

Morgana glanced at Jessica, then smiled with cruel amusement. "A rat that succeeds is still alive. A proud fool who fails is still dead. Which one do you think matters more in this conference?"

Jessica’s face darkened.

Caroline looked at Morgana with undisguised disgust. "Stellar Templar is one of the seven strongest first-rate forces of the Divine Realm. Is this how its strongest genius conducts herself?"

Morgana laughed softly, and that laugh made her even more hateful than if she had simply been cruel. There was no guilt in it. There was no trace of embarrassment. Instead, she looked almost entertained by their anger, as if the disgust of others was another form of applause.

"Please, do not speak to me about honor," Morgana said lightly. "Honor is a word used by people who need others to admire the way they lose. I prefer winning. If binding him for a moment gives me a chance to see whether Selene’s strongest attack can break his body, then why would I not do it?"

Her purple eyes moved back to Max, and a thin smile appeared on her lips.

"Besides, he did not die. So why are all of you so angry?"

That sentence made the atmosphere even colder.

Even Rosaline frowned slightly.

Kaiden’s gaze toward Morgana became more distant.

Orion’s smile vanished for the first time, and he looked at the witch with clear displeasure. "You really are unpleasant."

Morgana turned her head slightly and smiled at him. "Unpleasant people live longer, Orion."

Orion snorted coldly. "Not always."

Selene, who had just used Heavenly Luminance Genesis and was still recovering from the drain, looked at Morgana with a complicated expression. Although Morgana’s interference had helped her attack land on Max, even Selene did not enjoy the feeling of having her duel dirtied by someone else’s trick. Yet she did not speak against it either.

In a battle royale, results mattered, and if Max had truly been injured by that attack, Selene would not have refused the advantage.

Max looked at Morgana silently.

The golden-black dragon scales covering his body gleamed faintly, and the seven-colored lightning around him had become quieter, but that quietness was more dangerous than the storm from before. His eyes were calm, yet the calmness now carried a weight that made the air around him feel sharper.

Then he nodded his head.

"Fair."

Morgana raised an eyebrow.

Max continued calmly, "This is indeed a battle royale, and your actions are justified."

For a brief moment, Morgana’s smile widened.

She seemed to think Max had accepted her logic, or perhaps she thought he was trying to suppress his anger because too many strong people were present. Her expression became even more mocking, and the violet charms around her fingers revolved lazily as if she was already preparing another trick.

But Max’s next words made her smile pause.

"Since your actions are justified," Max said softly, "then whatever I do to you next is also justified."

The battlefield fell silent.

Morgana’s eyes narrowed slightly.

Max slowly turned his body toward her.

The broken roots around his feet burned away under black flames, and the golden-black dragon scales covering him released a deep draconic pressure that spread across the base of the Witch God Tree. The little cursed eye on his left shoulder blinked once, its pupil turning toward Morgana as if even the Witch’s mark was waiting to see what he would do.

Morgana’s smile did not fully disappear, but a trace of caution entered her eyes.

"Oh?" she said, still trying to sound amused. "Are you planning to attack me now while Selene is still standing before you?"

Max looked at her.

"You joined the battle first."

Morgana’s fingers twitched slightly.

Max continued, his voice calm and cold. "You did not interfere to test me. You waited for the worst possible moment and tried to make someone else’s strongest attack land while I was bound. If my defense had been weaker, Caroline and the others would now be watching my body torn apart, and you would still be smiling as if you had done something clever."

Caroline’s expression tightened.

Nancy’s eyes became cold.

Jessica glared at Morgana with hatred.

Morgana’s expression finally changed a little because Max had described her intention perfectly. She had not cared whether he died. She had not cared whether it was fair. She had wanted to see his secrets, and if he died in the process, then that would only mean he had not been worth her attention.

Max took one step toward her.

The ground beneath his foot cracked.

"So I will remember you, Morgana Starveil."

His voice was still calm, but everyone could hear the threat inside it.
