Chapter 729: Modan’s Spear
Chapter 729: Chapter 729: Modan’s Spear
"Modan’s Spear! Damn it, what is that spear doing here?"
"Modan’s Spear! How did that Demon Spear get into their hands?!"
"..."
When the three Legendary Mages inside the Fiery Sun Empire Palace saw the Demon Spear materialize in the void, their faces paled, and terror flickered in their eyes.
In the Ancient Era, a Demigod Hero of the Human Race named Mo Dan used a Demon Spear to kill his master, the aging Ancient Sun God.
The weapon that killed the Ancient Sun God was Modan’s Spear. It was cursed by the Ancient Sun God in his final moments and absorbed his Essence Blood, evolving into a bizarre and terrifyingly powerful Divine Artifact capable of slaying gods.
The moment Modan’s Spear appeared, the Spirit and Mana of the five Demigod-Level Mages outside were rapidly drained, and they grew noticeably weaker.
With a flash of light, Modan’s Spear vanished.
"I... I’m dead!"
Aluda Grandmaster suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest. A look of horror flashed in his eyes as he saw Modan’s Spear protruding from his body.
The next moment, Aluda Grandmaster screamed as his body was sucked dry, turning to ash that scattered in the wind.
Whenever Modan’s Spear pierces a foe, it drains their Essence Blood. If it fails to strike its target, it turns on its wielder, draining their Essence Blood instead. This was one of the curses laid upon the spear.
With Aluda Grandmaster’s death, the Bloodthirsty Wolf God’s Claw fell from the sky and mysteriously vanished into the void.
The Bloodthirsty Wolf God’s Claw was one of the Fiery Sun Empire’s foundational treasures, imbued with numerous magical enchantments. Upon Aluda Grandmaster’s death, it was destined to be retrieved by another Great Mage of the Empire.
"Modan’s Spear! Damn it!"
Resentment flashed in the eyes of one of the Fiery Sun Empire’s Legendary Mages as his form blurred and vanished.
The appearance of Modan’s Spear meant that continuing to resist head-on was a death sentence for the Legendary Mages of the Fiery Sun Empire.
The other Legendary Mage from the Fiery Sun Empire heaved a long sigh, then transformed into a shadow and disappeared.
Divine Artifacts are divided into various ranks and tiers. The Bloodthirsty Wolf God’s Claw was an Ordinary Divine Artifact, whereas Modan’s Spear was a Lower-Rank Divine Artifact—and a terrifying one at that, bordering on the power of a Middle-Rank Divine Artifact.
The only drawback to Modan’s Spear was the terrifying curse shrouding it. Wielding this weapon exacted an immense price.
"Let’s go!"
The five Legendary Mages breathed a collective sigh of relief and stored Modan’s Spear back within the Magic Array.
In the span of a dozen breaths, the five Legendary Mages had all grown noticeably weaker.
Another of Modan’s Spear’s curses was that it drained its wielder’s life force—it could even drain the lifespan of a Divine Spirit.
For this very reason, Modan’s Spear had passed through the hands of many masters. Most of its wielders were not slain by their enemies, but died after the spear had drained their lifespans completely.
No longer hindered by the two Legendary Mages of the Royal Fiery Sun Empire, the five invaders charged into the Imperial Palace. They crushed everything in their path with a barrage of magic, blasting the Fiery Sun Empire’s Magic Towers to smithereens one after another.
"Tira, they didn’t take the item with them, did they?" asked Yimuran, a Legendary Mage with short red hair.
The reason so many Demigod-Level Legendary Mages had converged on the Fiery Sun Empire Palace was precisely to obtain an item the Empire had only recently acquired.
A stunningly beautiful Legendary Mage with blue hair held a Crystal Ball, her eyes shimmering with a brilliant light. "No," she said slowly. "Very few people even within the Fiery Sun Empire know of its existence. After all, it represents the hope of achieving Ascension to Divinity!"
Countless powerful figures had converged on Holy Flame City, the capital of the Fiery Sun Empire, each for their own reasons. Some cults hoped to use the chaos to resurrect the Evil Gods they worshiped. Other factions aimed to destroy the Sun God Sect’s local church to release a mighty being imprisoned within.
The goal of the five Demigod-Level Legendary Mages storming the Fiery Sun Empire Palace was the treasure hidden within the empire’s vault—an artifact that could grant Ascension to Divinity.
Ordinarily, upon acquiring a treasure that could grant Ascension to Divinity, the Fiery Sun Empire should have offered it to the great Sun God in exchange for his blessing. But mortals are selfish, and so the artifact remained locked away in the imperial Treasure Vault, kept from the hands of the Sun God.
"Found it!"
Guided by the Crystal Ball, the five Legendary Mages arrived before a hundred-meter-tall, seemingly ordinary rockery.
"Break for me!"
With a furious roar, a Legendary Mage named Ruth cast the Legendary Magic, Transformation Technique. He instantly became a ten-meter-tall Frost Giant and slammed his fist into the rockery.
BOOM!
With a terrifying crash, the hundred-meter-tall, exquisitely crafted rockery shattered, revealing a passage leading underground.
"Allow me."
A Legendary Mage named Balado chanted an incantation and pointed a finger. Instantly, countless bizarre Demon Insects appeared and swarmed into the underground passage. They were thumb-sized, with wings, white carapaces, and the faces of Demons.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Flares of magical light erupted from the tunnel as the bizarre Demon Insects triggered various traps, causing them to detonate.
"It’s clear! Let’s go!"
After a dozen breaths, Balado led the way into the tunnel.
After traveling for more than ten kilometers through the underground passage, they came upon a bronze gate inscribed with countless mysterious Curse Seals.
"To open this Treasure Vault door, one needs the blood of the Royal Fiery Sun Empire."
The Legendary Mage Idris chanted an incantation. With a wave of his hand, a vial of blood flew out, transforming into a bizarre, bloody hand that pressed against the Bronze Gate.
One by one, unfathomably mysterious Curse Seals lit up, and the Bronze Gate slowly swung open.
A mountain of gold and countless priceless Cultivation Resources appeared before the five Legendary Mages, making their eyes gleam with excitement.
This was, after all, the Treasure Vault of the Fiery Sun Empire—one of the Three Great Empires of the Gulondo World.
It had taken the combined forces of many of the Gulondo World’s Evil Gods, various dark factions, and even the power of the Void Demon Clan to barely succeed in breaching the Fiery Sun Empire Palace.
If not for a certain faction persuading the Giant God of the Gulondo World’s Five Great Gods to intervene and block the Sun God, the Fiery Sun Empire Palace would never have fallen so easily.
