Divine Level Witch Doctor
Chapter 653 - 653: I've Never Seen Such a Shameless Person
Zhao Yuan had great faith in the White Cat's assurance. After all, ever since he'd known the White Cat, it had never once let him down.
Watching the wolf pack still patrolling, Zhao Yuan clapped his hands and said, "Alright, that's enough. You can all stop now."
The twenty-odd wolves actually did stop, all turning their heads to look at him, awaiting his next command.
"Assemble!" Zhao Yuan imitated a great leader, giving a showy wave of his hand.
But this time, the wolf pack didn't obey his command. Instead, they tilted their heads and looked at him, their gleaming green eyes filled with utter confusion.
"Er..."
Zhao Yuan scratched his head. Although these wolves had submitted to the White Cat's authority and could follow instructions, they didn't understand human speech, nor had they ever been trained. As a result, they couldn't immediately respond to the command.
But that was no big deal. After a few more training sessions, he could get these wolves to understand and follow simple verbal and visual commands.
In Jinhua Village, many among the older generation had experience training hunting dogs. When the time came, asking them for help training this pack of wolves shouldn't be too difficult. After all, the wolves already had the prerequisite for training: obedience.
Zhao Yuan made a few more hand gestures. The alpha wolf narrowed its eyes, pondered for a good while, and actually managed to understand his meaning. With a howl, it called its pack over, and they all gathered and sat down before Zhao Yuan.
'This alpha wolf is pretty smart,' Zhao Yuan thought, glancing at the alpha and nodding in satisfaction. 'The medicinal herb cultivation base is rich with Spiritual Qi. If a smart animal stays in there, nourished by the Spiritual Qi, it might even be able to open a Spiritual Aperture. It's not easy, but it's not entirely impossible. Maybe in a few years, I'll even be able to raise a few Little Demons there.'
At this thought, Zhao Yuan couldn't help but laugh.
'If that day really comes, wouldn't I become the Great Demon King of the mountain? Maybe I should get a Demon to sing while it patrols the mountain, too?'
Just then, Lin Xue walked up to him. Seeing his silly grin, she asked, puzzled, "What are you laughing at?"
"Nothing," Zhao Yuan said with an embarrassed smile, snapping out of his fantasy.
He wouldn't dare say what he had just been thinking out loud, because it was just too out there.
In today's world, Spiritual Qi was scarce. Even for humans, the so-called "crown of creation," Cultivation was exceptionally difficult, to say nothing of animals. For one to become a Demon was truly harder than ascending to heaven!
"How's the injured person?" Zhao Yuan asked.
Lin Xue replied, "Large chunks of flesh were torn from his thigh and back, but luckily, the wounds aren't fatal. I used his clothes to make a simple bandage and applied pressure to stop the bleeding. He should be able to hold on until we get him down the mountain to a hospital."
Zhao Yuan nodded.
The injured man was lucky. The moment he was attacked, Hu Shiqing had fired his gun, scaring off the alpha wolf. If the alpha wolf had had a few more seconds, it wouldn't have just been a bite of flesh—it would have been his throat.
Hu Shiqing and the others gradually snapped out of their shock.
Staring at the incredibly obedient wolf pack sitting before Zhao Yuan, they simply couldn't believe that this scene was real.
A moment ago, this pack had been incredibly ferocious, about to bite them to death and devour them. Now, they were sitting on the ground with their tongues hanging out, like a bunch of huskies... Anyone who encountered this would probably find it hard to accept.
"Brother, what's... what's going on with this wolf pack?" Hu Shiqing asked, trying to suppress the shock in his heart.
"I tamed them," Zhao Yuan replied.
"What? You tamed this pack of wolves?" Hu Shiqing's jaw dropped in astonishment. "You tamed this whole pack in such a short amount of time?"
"That's right." Zhao Yuan nodded and said shamelessly, "The law of the jungle is survival of the fittest. The powerful aura I radiate intimidated them, so they chose to bow down and submit to me. That's how I tamed them."
The White Cat, perched on his shoulder, shot him a disdainful look. 'So shameless. Stealing my credit.'
Zhao Yuan glanced back at it. 'If I told them you were the one who tamed these wolves, wouldn't they be scared to death?'
The White Cat snorted. 'Such foolish humans!'
Zhao Yuan was right not to tell the truth. These people already found it incredible that he could tame a pack of wolves. If they found out that the one who had actually tamed the pack was the White Cat on Zhao Yuan's shoulder, they would definitely all be screaming "Demon!"
At that moment, Shi Qi finally managed to untangle himself from the vines and bushes and struggled to his feet.
Seeing that the wolf pack was truly subdued by Zhao Yuan and had lost its earlier ferocity, a bit of Shi Qi's courage returned.
He stopped trying to run. After all, they were deep in the mountains. It was hard to say if he could even make it out on his own.
Before, he ran because he was afraid of being eaten by the vicious wolves. Now that the vicious wolves had turned into "huskies," he naturally didn't want to run anymore.
Thinking of his earlier disgraceful behavior, Shi Qi didn't reflect on his own actions. Instead, he started to resent the wolf pack.
'If it weren't for them, would I have been so scared that my legs went weak and I pissed my pants? If it weren't for them, would I have abandoned my companions to save my own skin? It's all their fault I made a fool of myself! It's all their fault I lost all credibility with my companions!'
The more he thought, the angrier he got. Plus, seeing that the wolf pack had lost its imposing air and was now as docile as a dog, a vicious thought took hold of Shi Qi. Gripping his Machete, he charged toward the alpha wolf.
Sensing the Killing Qi, the alpha wolf snapped its head up and stared at Shi Qi. A terrifying light flared in its eyes, its hidden fangs were bared once more, and a low growl rumbled in its throat.
Shi Qi froze, terrified. The courage he had just mustered instantly vanished. He had no doubt that if he dared to take one more step, this damned wolf would pounce and kill him with a single bite.
'Fuck, isn't this damn wolf supposed to be tamed? Why is it still baring its fangs at me?' Shi Qi's legs trembled, his face turning ugly with extreme fear.
"Shi Qi, what do you think you're doing?" Hu Shiqing demanded, glaring at him. His earlier act of abandoning his companions to flee alone had already caused Hu Shiqing's opinion of him to hit rock bottom.
"I'm going to kill this beast and avenge Xiang Ping!" Shi Qi managed to find a noble-sounding excuse.
Zhao Yuan snorted with derision. "Nice words. If you were really so loyal, you wouldn't have abandoned your companions to run away earlier! Hmph, I have truly never seen someone so shameless!"
He despised people like this more than anything, so naturally, he didn't pull any punches with his words.
"Th-this..." Cold sweat beaded on Shi Qi's forehead.
His mind raced, and he actually managed to come up with an excuse: "I wasn't running away! I was trying to lure the wolves away... That's right! I was planning to use myself as bait to lead the wolves away and give you all a chance to escape!"
Hu Shiqing spat in his direction and cursed, "Shi Qi, you're absolutely shameless! How can you even utter such a clumsy lie? I must have been blind to ever be friends with you. From this day forward, we're through! We are not friends anymore!"
Shi Qi's face alternated between green and white. He opened his mouth, but in the end, couldn't find a single excuse.
