Chapter 719: Chapter 707: Marrying a Rich Man (10)
"What are you spacing out for? Let’s go." Seeing the troubled look on her face, Archie Lockwood didn’t need to guess what was on her mind. He snatched the bill from her hand and walked out of the room.
Eleanor Bishop snapped back to reality and jogged anxiously to catch up with Archie Lockwood.
Even without looking back, Archie knew she was jogging to keep up. Remembering she was still injured, he subconsciously slowed his pace.
After a minute, she still hadn’t caught up.
He frowned in annoyance and turned to look back, only to see her standing a few feet away, wringing her hands anxiously.
"What are you doing? Get over here."
"Well... um... I... I don’t have enough money on me," Eleanor Bishop said, looking up with a deathly pale face, her voice low and hesitant.
Archie Lockwood raised an eyebrow, feigning ignorance. "So?"
"So... could I borrow some money from you?"
At that, Archie sneered, his voice cold and mocking. "Heh. Eleanor Bishop. After all these years, you really haven’t changed one bit."
"It’s not like that. I really don’t have enough money. I only have a little over two hundred on me." As she spoke, Eleanor quickly pulled the cash out of her pocket.
As he looked at the crumpled bills in Eleanor’s hand—the largest of which was a fifty—Archie Lockwood’s handsome face turned dark and icy.
He glared at her in frustration. "Let’s go!"
"Does that mean you’ll lend me the money?" Eleanor cautiously walked to Archie’s side, tilted her head up, and asked softly.
"..." Archie stared at Eleanor, his expression unreadable, and said nothing.
When he didn’t answer, Eleanor said urgently, "Don’t worry, I’ll definitely pay you back as soon as I have the money."
’Pay me back?’ A self-mocking smirk tugged at Archie’s lips. "Heh. Eleanor Bishop, when have you ever paid me back for anything I’ve lent you? And since when did we become such strangers that you feel the need to pay me back for using my money?"
"I’m sorry, I..." Eleanor knew exactly what he was referring to. A pained look crossed her face as she hung her head and mumbled an apology.
Glancing at her pitiful act, Archie said coldly, "When you’re with me, don’t say you’re sorry."
"..." At his words, Eleanor snapped her head up, her eyes filled with surprise and disbelief. But in the next second, Archie’s words stabbed into her heart, causing a sharp, intense pain.
"Because the list of things you’ve done to wrong me is too long. A single ’I’m sorry’ can’t even begin to atone for your mistakes."
"I know you can’t forgive me. I’m sorry."
"Heh. Good. As long as you know. So, Eleanor Bishop, leave. I’ll give you a sum of money to get you out of here. Just don’t ever disturb my life with Rory again." ’She needs money, she loves money, so he’ll give her money—enough to last a lifetime. All she has to do is not fight him for Rory, not barge back into their lives.’
"That’s not necessary. You don’t have to give me money."
"Then what do you want? Are you trying to latch onto us?" He couldn’t help but be suspicious of what happened today.
He never believed in coincidences, so he refused to believe that she just happened to be at that mall today.
’If she wasn’t trying to latch onto them, she never would have called Rory’s name. She should have run the moment she saw them.’
"I never thought of it like that."
