Chapter 724: Chapter 712: Marrying a Rich Man (15)
Eleanor Bishop watched her mother sobbing wretchedly, and the anger she’d felt just moments before was gone. She sat on the edge of the bed and threw the knife in her hand to the floor.
She looked at her father, lying there so still. Tears slid down her cheeks as she reached out, took his hand, and squeezed it tightly. "Dad," she said, her voice choked with sobs, "if you can hear me, please open your eyes and look at me. Please?"
"Dad, you always doted on me the most, didn’t you? Whenever I was tired, you’d lend me your shoulder to lean on. Whenever I wanted to cry, you’d wipe away my tears and tell me your daughter had to be strong. But Dad, I’m so, so tired now. I really can’t go on anymore. Dad, I need you... I really need you. Dad, I’m begging you. Please, for my sake, wake up soon..."
"Dad, even if you’re tired and want to rest... you’ve been sleeping for years now. Isn’t it about time you woke up?"
"Dad, you’re all I have now... Dad, I need you..."
...
Yara Ross, standing to the side, had stopped crying as she listened to Eleanor. Now, seeing Eleanor weeping so wretchedly, she felt an unbearable ache in her own heart. She walked over and pulled Eleanor into her arms. "There, there, don’t cry. Your father... he can’t hear you."
"Don’t touch me!" Eleanor shoved Yara Ross away furiously. "You’re no mother of mine."
Yara Ross looked at Eleanor, a mixture of surprise and unease in her eyes. "Eleanor..."
"Don’t you want to divorce my dad? Then do it!" ’Once they’re divorced, no one will be able to hurt Dad anymore.’
"Eleanor Bishop, do you have any idea what you’re saying?" Yara Ross barked, her body trembling and her face aghast.
"Of course I know. For a woman who tried to kill my dad, I don’t see any reason to call her ’Mom’ anymore. So, you want a divorce? Fine. Go ahead."
Livid with rage, Yara Ross shrieked, "Eleanor Bishop!"
As Eleanor spoke, Harold Bishop’s finger twitched. Then, as Yara Ross shrieked Eleanor’s name in a rage, he used every ounce of his willpower to force his eyes open. His voice was weak, but his words were clear: "A divorce! We’ll get a divorce immediately!"
Just as Yara Ross was about to scream at Eleanor, the sudden voice startled her. In the next moment, both she and Eleanor stood frozen.
After several seconds of stunned silence, Eleanor was the first to react. She whipped her head toward her father and cried out in tearful joy, "Dad, you’re awake! That’s wonderful, you’re awake! You’re finally awake!"
"Eleanor, you’ve been through so much," Harold Bishop said with a smile, raising a trembling hand to wipe away her tears.
"It wasn’t hard. Not at all. Seeing you wake up, Dad... it makes everything worthwhile."
"Now that Dad’s here, no one can bully you anymore."
"Yes. With you here, Dad, I don’t have to worry anymore."
...Listening to the father and daughter, Yara Ross was finally jolted back to her senses. She reached out, pulled Eleanor away from the bed, and sobbed, "Harold, you’ve finally decided to wake up."
When Harold Bishop saw Yara Ross crying, he merely gave a self-mocking smile and offered no words of comfort.
"Harold, do you have any idea how long you’ve been asleep? The doctors said... they said you might never wake up..."
