Chapter 723: Chapter 711: Marrying a Rich Man (14)

"Eleanor Bishop, the men I’m setting you up with are all prominent figures in Jevon. You want to find someone on your own? Do you really think you can find a rich man?"

"Hah..." ’Prominent figures? She really didn’t see how that Owen Miller could be considered a prominent figure. He was a complete thug.’

When Yara Ross saw Eleanor smiling, she boiled with rage. "What are you smiling about?"

"Nothing. I just feel like your standards for choosing a son-in-law have really been lowered." ’If it hadn’t been for today’s blind date, she would have never known just how far her mom’s standards had fallen. After all, her mother’s benchmark had always been Jason Lockwood.’

’Now, just three hundred thousand was enough for her mom to sell her off.’

"What do you mean?"p>

Eleanor’s lips curled into a cold smile. "It means your judgment isn’t what it used to be, Mom. It seems any odd nobody can catch your eye these days."

Yara’s face clouded with rage. She raised her hand to slap Eleanor, but just as it was about to strike, she saw the sneer on Eleanor’s lips. Her hand froze in mid-air, her expression turning even uglier than before. "Eleanor Bishop, does it make you feel sick if you don’t find a way to anger me every single day?"

"How would I dare anger you, Mom? Everything you say is right. Whatever you say, goes."

Hearing Eleanor’s mocking words, Yara’s eyes reddened. She got up from the sofa and walked away.

Eleanor watched her mother, a complex look in her eyes. Her mother hadn’t continued scolding her. Frowning, she stared after her.

Only after her mother disappeared into her bedroom did Eleanor finally look away.

But before she could even lean back against the sofa, she heard the sounds of someone crying and cursing.

Hearing the sound, her face went deathly pale. She scrambled to her feet and ran to her parents’ bedroom.

As she burst through the doorway, she saw her mother holding a fruit knife over her father’s body, gesturing with it as she wept and cursed, "Harold Bishop! Don’t you think you deserve to die?! How many years has it been? Tell me, how many years have you been lying here like this?! You just close your eyes, lie there, and ignore everything, leaving us with this disaster! To clean up your mess, your daughter has to borrow money from all over. To escape your enemies, we were forced to hide in this godforsaken place! Harold Bishop, this is all because of you! It’s all because of you, do you understand? Harold Bishop! You really should be dead, you know that? Why aren’t you dead yet? Why won’t you just die already?!"

"Harold Bishop, I’ve served you for so many years. I think I’ve fulfilled my duties as a wife. So, please, just die, okay? Can’t you just die right now? You’re only suffering like this anyway, half-dead..." As she spoke, Yara raised the knife, preparing to plunge it into Harold Bishop’s stomach.

Watching this unfold, Eleanor’s mind went blank with a deafening roar. It was as if she couldn’t hear a thing. She lunged forward, grabbing the knife and clenching it tightly in her hand. With bloodshot eyes, she bellowed furiously at Yara, "Are you insane?! You were about to kill my father!"

"That’s right, I’m insane! My husband is half-dead and my daughter is disobedient! How could I not be insane?!" Yara screamed back, completely overwrought.

"Mom, can you stop this?! He’s your husband! The man who was supposed to be by your side for your whole life! How could you lay a hand on him?"

Yara looked at Eleanor’s hand, bleeding from where she gripped the knife. Then she looked at the man on the bed, lying as still as a corpse. She completely broke down, wailing, "I can’t go on like this! I can’t! I can’t..."
