Chapter 722: Chapter 710: Marrying a Rich Man (13)

"Fine, don’t mention her. Why are you so angry? It’s not like she’s my mom. What happens to her has nothing to do with me. Besides, I don’t want you to get me a stepmom anyway." Shirley Lockwood’s eyes reddened as she mumbled resentfully.

Hearing Rory’s words, Archie Lockwood’s heart skipped a beat, and his hands clenched even tighter than before.

He took a moment to compose himself before walking toward Rory. When he reached her, he sat down carefully beside her, pulled her into his arms, and whispered softly, "Rory, I’m sorry. Dad shouldn’t have yelled at you."

Shirley Lockwood looked up at Archie Lockwood in surprise. "Wow! Pigs must be flying! Dad, are you apologizing to me?? My high and mighty dad is actually, truly apologizing to me?"

"Don’t be ridiculous." Seeing Rory’s shocked expression, Archie Lockwood frowned in exasperation.

Shirley Lockwood furrowed her brow, knelt on the sofa, and cupped Archie Lockwood’s face in her hands. She studied him closely and asked, "Dad, what in the world is wrong with you today?" ’My dad is being so weird.’

Archie Lockwood smiled indulgently and ruffled Rory’s hair. "Heh, I was just thinking. I’ve been so busy with work all these years that I haven’t had any time to have fun with you. So, once my work in Jevon is done, Dad will take half a month off to take you out and have a good time. How does that sound?"

"Really? Dad, are you serious?" Shirley Lockwood asked, her eyes wide with delight as she looked up at Archie Lockwood.

"Yes, really. When have I ever broken a promise to you?"

At his words, Shirley Lockwood jumped to her feet excitedly. "OH YEAH!!! In that case, Dad, I want to go to lots and lots of places! And eat lots and lots of delicious food!"

"Alright. We’ll go wherever you want to go, and we’ll eat whatever you want to eat."

"Oh my gosh, this is happening so fast it feels unreal! My dad is actually going to hang out with me? Am I dreaming?" Her dad worked three hundred and sixty days a year; she never dared to even hope he’d take time off for her.

Seeing how happy Rory was, Archie Lockwood’s brow furrowed, a complex look in his eyes.

’This life is truly good. So, Eleanor Bishop, you’d better keep your promise. Don’t come and disturb my daughter and me ever again.’

The moment Eleanor Bishop got home, her mother pulled her aside and started questioning her.

When she heard that things with Owen Miller were off, Yara Ross pointed a finger at Eleanor Bishop’s forehead and scolded, "Eleanor Bishop, what the hell is going on in your head? You’re going to be the death of me! It was a perfectly good blind date, and you managed to screw it up like this."

Eleanor Bishop’s face crumpled as she cried, "Mom, Owen Miller isn’t a decent guy at all! He even hit me."

Hearing this, Yara Ross froze for a moment. Then, she turned her head away and said coldly, "You deserved it. If it were me, I’d have hit you too."

"Mom, are you even my real mom?"

At Eleanor’s words, Yara Ross exploded. "Eleanor Bishop, if I weren’t your real mom, do you think you’d still be alive today?" ’As if I, Yara Ross, would be kind enough to raise someone else’s child!’

"Mom, I don’t want to talk about this with you anymore. As for finding a date, I’ll go to a matchmaking agency myself. I don’t need you to arrange anything for me."
