Chapter 721: Chapter 709: Marrying a Rich Man (12)
Archie Lockwood’s gaze was menacing as he glared at Eleanor Bishop. "I thought you said you wouldn’t bother us? Now get lost!"
"Oh..." Eleanor snapped back to reality. Holding back tears, she gave a faint reply, then turned, opened the car door, and prepared to get out.
Seeing Eleanor about to get out, Archie gripped the steering wheel. "Wait a minute!"
Eleanor’s heart skipped a beat. She turned back and looked at Archie, a sense of unease washing over her.
She didn’t know what she was hoping for, but when she heard those three words, her heart couldn’t help but constrict painfully.
Archie Lockwood’s lips curled into a sneer. He snatched up the medicine and tossed it into Eleanor Bishop’s lap. "Take your medicine, and get out."
The moment the medicine landed in her lap, she could no longer hold back her tears. They streamed down her face.
She grabbed the medicine, got out of the car, and slammed the door shut before running away in tears.
’She had thought that after all these years, his words wouldn’t affect her anymore. But she still couldn’t stop them from hurting.’
’His words were so hurtful, so cruel. They made her heart ache so much she could barely breathe.’
Watching Eleanor Bishop run off, Archie Lockwood felt an inexplicable wave of irritation, and his chest tightened uncomfortably.
’What was wrong with him?’
’What in the world was wrong with him?’
’He was angry when he heard the woman wouldn’t pester him and his daughter, but the thought of her pestering them made him angry too...’
’When it came to Eleanor Bishop, he was just angry. So, so angry.’
He sat in the car for nearly half an hour before his anger finally subsided a little.
When he drove back to the hotel, he didn’t go to his own suite. Instead, he went to the one Howard Rhodes was staying in.
He went inside and sat down on the sofa, his expression dejected.
When Howard Rhodes saw that his boss hadn’t said a word for a long time, he finally asked uneasily, "Sir, is there something you need me to do?"
"I want you to investigate what Eleanor Bishop has been up to these past few years."
"Yes, sir."
Thinking of the other man’s words from earlier today, Archie Lockwood added coldly, "And find a time to arrange a meeting with her mother for me."
"Yes, sir," Howard Rhodes replied crisply, though his brows furrowed in confusion.
’Don’t tell me the boss wants to rekindle his old flame with Eleanor Bishop?’
Having given his instructions, Archie Lockwood got up and left.
When he returned to his room, he saw Rory sitting on the sofa, hugging a throw pillow and watching TV.
The moment Shirley Lockwood saw Archie Lockwood return, she flashed an eager smile and asked, "Dad, how’s the pretty lady?"
"You seem very concerned about her." Hearing Rory’s question, Archie’s cold eyes landed on her, full of displeasure.
"I’m just being concerned on your behalf, Dad."
"On my behalf?" The words made Archie’s handsome brows furrow.
Shirley Lockwood nodded, a mischievous grin on her face. "Uh-huh. Don’t try to fool me, Dad. You definitely know that pretty lady. And I bet she used to be your old girlfriend."
Hearing this, Archie Lockwood’s face darkened. "How do you know that? Who told you?!"
"Ah! So it’s true! The pretty lady really was your old girlfriend, Dad!" Shirley Lockwood exclaimed, covering her mouth in shock.
"Who told you!"
Shirley Lockwood looked at Archie Lockwood with wide, innocent eyes. "You did, Dad!"
"Me? When did I ever tell you that? Shirley Lockwood, don’t talk nonsense!"
"Just now."
’Just now?’ Realizing that Rory had indeed just tricked the truth out of him, Archie Lockwood’s expression turned exceptionally sour.
His hands clenched into tight fists. He glared at Shirley Lockwood and warned in a cold, hard voice, "Shirley Lockwood, I’m warning you. Don’t you dare spout any more nonsense. I have nothing to do with that woman. So, from now on, you are forbidden from ever mentioning her in my presence again."
