She endured the sharp pain in her ankle as she slowly got out of bed, carefully tiptoeing toward the bathroom.

Archie Lockwood rolled over, sat up, and turned on the light. His heavy workload usually left him exhausted. Insomnia was rare for him; he typically fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. But tonight, he tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep no matter what he did.

He got out of bed, went out to the living room to pour and drink a glass of water, then sat on the sofa and began to smoke.

Just as he was finishing his cigarette and about to head back to the bedroom, he heard the sound of a door shutting with a BANG.

At the sound of the door closing, Archie Lockwood furrowed his brow. A flash of worry crossed his eyes as he turned and strode quickly toward the door.

When he opened the door, he saw Eleanor Bishop leaning against the wall, inching her way forward. He demanded angrily, "Where do you think you’re going in the middle of the night?"

"—" At the sound of his voice, Eleanor Bishop froze, her face a mask of surprise and anxiety.

When Eleanor didn’t respond, Archie Lockwood assumed she had woken up and was still drunk and acting out. He swallowed the lecture on the tip of his tongue, shut the door, and strode toward her. Bending down, he swept her up into his arms.

"You..." ’What are you doing?’

But Eleanor had barely opened her mouth when Archie Lockwood shot her a furious glare and barked, "Shut up! You were asleep! Can’t you stay put for one minute?"

However, her eyes remained fixed on Archie Lockwood, unblinking.

Archie Lockwood carried her into the room and set her down on the sofa.

Seeing her dazed expression, he tapped her on the head. With his brows knitted, he asked coldly, "What happened to your foot?" ’Outside just now, if I wasn’t mistaken, something seemed to be wrong with her foot.’

"I don’t know." At his voice, Eleanor snapped back to reality, her eyes red as she lowered her head.

"You don’t know? Hah. Eleanor Bishop, you’re really something else! You don’t even know how you injured your own foot!" Archie Lockwood said furiously, reaching out and yanking her foot up.

"Ahh, that hurts, it hurts..." The sudden touch from Archie Lockwood made Eleanor’s face contort in agony as she cried out.

"You’ll just have to endure it! Let’s see if you dare to drink like that again!"

Even though Archie Lockwood was lecturing her and gripping her ankle tightly, a strange warmth inexplicably spread through her heart.

The pain in her ankle no longer seemed so unbearable. ’At least,’ she thought, ’the pain makes this feel real. It proves this isn’t a dream.’

Archie Lockwood saw how badly swollen and red her ankle was. With a grim expression, he yanked her sock off and threw it on the ground.

Eleanor’s heart pounded with anxiety. She quickly forced a smile and said, "Um, I... I’m actually not in that much pain..."
