She couldn’t believe those words had actually come out of Archie Lockwood’s mouth.

Archie Lockwood reached out, pulling her into his arms. "Listen to me," he said in a low voice. "Just stay by my side, and I’ll hire the best doctors to treat your legs." ’If she doesn’t want Shannon Vance’s help, then fine.’

Watching the two of them embrace, Shannon Vance clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms. Still, she forced herself to maintain a smile.

"I don’t need you to get involved..." Eleanor Bishop said, her eyes welling with tears as she forcefully pushed Archie Lockwood away.

’He already has another woman, yet he still comes and messes with me.’

"Archie, it looks like Miss Bishop is mad at you. You should go placate her," Shannon Vance said teasingly, forcing a smile.

Hearing Shannon’s words, Archie Lockwood thought Eleanor Bishop was jealous. He felt a sudden surge of delight and pulled her into his arms again, cooing softly, "Alright, don’t be angry. If you don’t want me looking after you, who do you want?"

"Let go of me!" Eleanor Bishop only grew angrier at his words.

’That woman must be really important to him! So important that he’d use such a gentle tone with me just because she told him to!’

Shannon Vance watched the scene unfold, her heart aching with a sharp pain. She struggled to keep her composure and said with a plastered-on smile, "Archie, I think I have some other things to attend to, so I’ll be going now."

"Okay."

"So, Archie... about the banquet tonight?" Shannon Vance trailed off, looking at Archie Lockwood timidly, afraid he would turn her down.

Archie Lockwood was silent for a moment before replying in a cool voice, "Don’t worry. Rory and I will be there on time."

"Good, that’s a relief," Shannon Vance said, her voice softening with delight.

As Shannon Vance picked up her purse to leave, Archie Lockwood seemed to remember something. He glanced down at Eleanor Bishop, then said to Shannon in a low voice, "I’ll have Howard Rhodes drive you home."

"Okay. I hope it’s not a bother."

"It’s no bother. I don’t feel comfortable with you going home by yourself."
