Chapter 785: Chapter 773: Case-Cracking Little Detective (3)
Shirley Lockwood blushed, rolling her eyes in annoyance. "Hey, Dad! Put me down!" she yelled.
"I’ll put you down, but you have to promise me you’ll behave yourself!" ’I must be losing my mind,’ he thought, ’specifically warning this little brat to be nice to Eleanor Bishop!’
"Fine, fine, I promise, I promise! Dad, hurry up and put me down. You’re embarrassing me!" Shirley Lockwood fixed her hair, rolled her eyes again, and responded with a look of weary resignation.
Archie Lockwood snorted. He carried Shirley Lockwood a full two meters away from Eleanor Bishop before finally setting her down.
Shirley Lockwood glared angrily at Archie Lockwood. "Dad, what are you doing? I just missed the pretty lady, that’s all! You don’t have to be so overprotective."
Standing to the side, Eleanor Bishop was also a little angry with Archie Lockwood for doing that.
’This was a golden opportunity for Rory to get close to me,’ she thought, ’and Archie Lockwood just had to ruin it.’
Sensing the anger coming from both of them, Archie Lockwood’s handsome face darkened. "Her leg can’t handle you messing around like that," he snapped, displeased. "You’d better behave yourself."
"Hmph! Dad, you’ve changed." Shirley Lockwood’s eyes reddened with grievance. With a sniff, she turned and ran off.
’Dad would never have treated me like this for a stranger before! For him to treat me like this now... It looks like my place in his heart has dropped quite a bit!’
Seeing Shirley Lockwood run off feeling wronged, Eleanor Bishop turned to Archie Lockwood angrily. "Archie Lockwood, it’s not as serious as you’re making it out to be. It’s fine however Rory wants to play. I can handle it."
"’A doting mother spoils the child.’ It’s a saying for a reason." ’Good thing Rory grew up by my side,’ he thought.
’If she had been with Eleanor Bishop, she’d probably be a total pushover by now, someone anyone could walk all over.’
Archie Lockwood’s words made Eleanor Bishop’s face flush red with anger.
’Children are supposed to be doted on, especially little girls.’
’No wonder Rory can’t stand it and keeps running away from home, not with Archie Lockwood being so strict with her.’
When Eleanor Bishop didn’t say anything, Archie Lockwood, though burning with rage, had nowhere to vent it. He had no choice but to reluctantly back down first. He walked over to Eleanor Bishop and asked in a low voice, "Have you eaten?"
Hearing this, Eleanor Bishop looked up at Archie Lockwood, a little confused. She suddenly remembered that he was supposed to have gone to a banquet tonight...
Seeing her reaction, Archie Lockwood assumed she hadn’t eaten. So, he sat down beside her and asked again in a low voice, "I’m hungry. Let’s get something to eat. What do you want?"
"You didn’t eat?"
Archie Lockwood leaned back on the sofa behind him and answered matter-of-factly, "Yeah, I didn’t."
That answer only made Eleanor Bishop more confused. "Didn’t you go to a banquet? How could you not have eaten? Don’t they serve food at banquets?" ’Generally, at those high-society parties, there should be all kinds of food! Even though our Bishop Family has fallen and isn’t as prominent as it used to be, I’ve still attended and hosted my fair share of those banquets.’
Archie Lockwood shot her a cold glare and snapped irritably, "Eleanor Bishop, you ask too many questions!"
"Oh..." Eleanor Bishop quickly lowered her head, not daring to ask another question.
