Chapter 789: Chapter 777: Case-Cracking Little Detective (7)
Seeing Archie Lockwood standing there, unmoving and silent with a dark expression on his face, Eleanor Bishop panicked and shot up from the sofa. She started toward him, "Um... I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to..."
"Watch out!" Seeing the woman suddenly stand up, Archie Lockwood’s face grew even darker. He strode quickly toward Eleanor Bishop, reaching out to catch her.
"Ah..." She had been moving just fine, but Archie Lockwood’s reminder made Eleanor Bishop suddenly remember her leg. When she tried to take another step, it felt as heavy as lead. She couldn’t move an inch, and her whole body pitched forward.
With his quick reflexes, Archie Lockwood stepped forward just in time to catch her before she hit the ground, holding her tightly in his arms.
Eleanor Bishop’s heart was pounding out of her chest, but she still remembered to apologize to Archie Lockwood. "I’m sorry. Please don’t be mad at me."
"Eleanor Bishop, can’t you use your brain?! Can’t you remember there’s something wrong with your leg?!"
With red-rimmed eyes, Eleanor Bishop lowered her head in grievance and admitted her mistake. "I’m sorry... I know I was wrong..." ’It’s not like I meant to do it. I just got angry for a second, that’s all.’
"Don’t say you’re sorry to me. I don’t want to ever hear you say you’re sorry again." The moment he heard those two words, "I’m sorry," Archie Lockwood’s anger flared even hotter. It seemed like, in his memory, the two words this woman had said to him most were "I’m sorry."
"..." ’Then what does he want to hear? Besides ’I’m sorry,’ what else can I possibly say?’ "Um, it really was just a slip of the hand."
"Hah. Eleanor Bishop, you’re always putting on an act in front of me, aren’t you? Hiding all of your feelings."
Eleanor Bishop frowned, looking at Archie Lockwood in confusion. "An act?" ’What act have I been putting on?’
"Am I wrong? The you who just got angry—that’s the real you, isn’t it? In reality, you’re not the least bit satisfied with me, are you?" ’She must have wanted to hit me for a long time, which is why she finally did it in the heat of the moment.’
"That’s not it." Hearing this, Eleanor Bishop’s face went deathly pale, and she anxiously rushed to defend herself.
Archie Lockwood sneered, raising an eyebrow. "Not it? Hah. Eleanor Bishop, you’re still putting on an act! You show no emotion in front of me. Do you know why I can’t stand you? Do you know what it is I can’t stand most about you?"
"What?"
"What I can’t stand most is that whether we’re in bed or out of it, you’re like a corpse, completely unresponsive."
Listening to Archie Lockwood’s words, Eleanor Bishop’s face went completely ashen. "A corpse?"
"Yes, a corpse."
"..."
"Eleanor Bishop, what I can’t stand are calculating women who don’t even dare to show their real emotions in front of me. And you happen to be exactly that kind of woman. Tell me, how could I not despise you?"
"So, that’s the kind of woman I am in your heart?" Sharp pains shot through Eleanor Bishop’s chest. She curled her lips into a self-mocking, faint smile as she spoke.
Archie Lockwood raised a hand and gripped her chin tightly. "What else? What kind of woman did you want to be? Eleanor Bishop, you really have the ’delicate flower’ act down to a science, don’t you!"
"A ’delicate flower’? I’m a delicate flower..."
As Eleanor Bishop muttered in self-mockery, Archie Lockwood stared intently at her, his gaze complex. "Eleanor Bishop," he said coldly, "keep it up. Don’t disappoint me." Without waiting for her to react, he crushed his lips against hers...
